“What a scary face! I want to crush it, to make you beg for forgiveness for killing me not once, but twice. You deserve every second I make you suffer.”
These words are typical of Eito. This is normal. He remains unchanging. Yet words such as crush, beg, suffer echo in Takumi’s head as he stares intensely at his former friend and comrade — his sworn enemy of humanity. It always feels like Eito is one step ahead of him – scratch that, many steps ahead of him, and he can never fully catch up. He wants to be equal to him. He wants to see Eito beaten in his own game, his icy eyes dripping heavy tears and his clear complexion bruised and bloodied as he is lying crumpled up on the floor. His lenses are fragments scattered on the floor, and the frames askew on his face. Eito’s lower lip is roughly bitten as he holds back his cries and nausea.
A strange feeling swells in his chest, his nerves alight and buzzing, and he pushes away these feelings with disgust. Mainly with himself. What the hell is he thinking?

”Oh, is that ugly Takumi I spy?” came floating to his ears from the cage in the center of the yard, and yeah, of course nothing about this place was going to calm Takumi’s nerves.
”Sure is,” Takumi bit back, learning by now that Eito does this just to get a rise out of him. He’s better off if he doesn’t make a fuss. Takumi made his way over to the cage, examining his target. Eito looked relatively relaxed; he was on his side, laying propped up on one arm with a book laid out beside him. How he didn’t feel sore from reclining on the hard cage floor, Takumi would never understand. “I brought you breakfast.”

Summary
He thought back to Karua, the person he promised to protect no matter what. Then, his thoughts drifted to Nozomi and the concern in her eyes as she questioned the path he was taking. Takumi only wanted to save them—dreamt of it and wished for it to the point it became a mantra. Still, he was pathetic, stupid, incompetent; his weakness left him with only one option. A gradual transformation into something his former self would've despised. Perhaps that was why Eito was so drawn to him—even before the drugs.
He breathed in slowly. His head was starting to throb, and his only respite was found in the gentle brushing of his hair by someone he once called his nemesis. Someone whom he loathed to trust, someone he knew he'd forgive again and again.
Takumi made a choice—now he has to live with it.
