Work Text:
Yoongi is annoyed and would very much like to go home to his husband. The whole trip has been pointless, meetings upon meetings debating the difference between two songs that are only slightly different. And since he produced the both of them, no he really doesn’t care which one is chosen. He’s on the credits either way after all. Both are great, it’s literally an argument about a piano opening. That and how often a certain melody is repeated in the chorus. It’s most definitely a conference that could have been done through video, not with him needing to be in LA. But here he is, and there isn’t anything he can do about it now.
His manager, Sejin, can tell he’s annoyed with the situation, so it doesn’t at all surprise him when he’s pulled to the side after a break in meetings. But Sejin’s words do.
“After this one you can go back to Korea,” Sejin says, whispering.
Yoongi glances up, surprised.
At his look, Sejin laughs. “I know that you would rather be anywhere else but here, and your input isn’t really needed after this meeting. I’ll send you any important information pertaining to the song, but it’s really nothing you need to be here for.”
“Thanks, Sejin-nim.” Yoongi says, giving him a slight bow. If he leaves in two hours, he should be able to make it back home to Jimin, just barely. And then he can make it in time for their anniversary, for their first year being married. He can remember the wedding like it happened yesterday, and now he’s celebrating his anniversary married to the most amazing man on Earth.
Sejin winks, “consider it an early anniversary present as well from me. Now just 30 more minutes, and I’ll give you your ticket out of here. I’ve already handled it for you. You’ll get into Seoul at about 6 pm Korean Standard which will give you enough time to celebrate.”
“Thank you,” Yoongi states, slightly overwhelmed and smiling for the first time in days. “It means a lot to me, Jimin will be so happy.”
Sejin smiles at him. “I’m only doing my job, Yoongi-ah.”
“No,” Yoongi states firmly. “It really means a lot. Once you get back to Korea, I'll thank you in expensive beef?”
Sejin laughs nodding, and the two of them walk back to the meeting room. Now that Yoongi knows he’s only got two hours left in the US, and then going on a 13 hour flight to his husband for their anniversary, he’s a lot happier. Not about the flight, that sucks, but the ability to see his husband on their anniversary is something he’s really looking forward to. Namjoon would say he’s putting a lot of value into just a day, but that isn’t the point. He promised it would be a day just for them, and now he can keep that promise that he initially broke.
Jimin knows that Yoongi won’t be here today, but that doesn’t mean he can’t be missing him. It was just a combination of bad luck as well as timing that will be the reason his husband of a year will be missing their very first anniversary as a wedded couple tomorrow.
Of course his amazing husband had to go to the US for a collaboration as well as for production reasons. He knows that Yoongi tried to rearrange the date, but the other team just wasn’t having it and since it was a last minute issue, here they were separated, on their anniversary.
He opens a window, the light illuminating his face as he traces the glass. They’re a long way away from each other, the two of them. Yoongi is quite literally, an ocean away from him right now. Thinking about it makes his heart ache even more. He goes into their kitchen, pulling out a mug and beginning to make some coffee. It’s a simple ritual, yet seemingly missing something, normally Yoongi grabs him the milk from the fridge, but he’s not here to do so.
He blinks, sighing before grabbing the milk himself, and bringing it back to the counter.
It’s times like this, he thinks, grabbing an apple to eat, the little moments where he misses his husband even more than he does normally. But he promised Tae he wasn’t going to be down the whole day before his anniversary, and keeping that promise in mind, he gets ready for the day.
Right before he leaves the kitchen he picks up his phone and texts Tae, after texting his customary “Love you” text to Yoongi.
Hey coffee shop in 10 minutes?
Taehyung responds, exclamation marks and emojis showing his best friend and soulmate’s excitement over going out for a coffee (and in Tae’s book’s gossip) morning out.
He sighs, stretching and making his way to the door, passing by photos on the wall of his husband and their friends in college, them on their honeymoon, and pictures of the last year. Pictures of him with purple hair, Yoongi the time his hair was blue, and them when they first started dating with orange and mint hair.
He doesn’t linger on those memories, not wanting to risk breaking down over how much he’s missing his husband.
No, he will be going out and having some fun at the very least with Tae. Maybe he can go out with the rest of them as well later tonight. As for him and Yoongi, well they can always celebrate their anniversary when Yoongi gets back home in a few days.
Closing the door, locking it behind him, he heads out, ready to start the day.
Yoongi sits back as the plane lifts off, leaving LA for Korea. Getting through the airport is always a bit of a hassle, especially due to the surprising amount of people attempting to get through, as well as the US’s rather strict rules surrounding airport security. But single minded determination to get to his husband prevailed and he made decent time for the LA airport of course.
Now he’s just waiting, and pulls out his phone, connecting to the paid Wi-Fi. He sends a quick, thinking of you text to Jimin, responding to Jimin’s text that he had sent just a few hours ago. Then he scrolls down until he reaches Jeongguk’s number.
Hey kid.
You there?
Hyung?
Aren’t you in a meeting?
And shouldn’t you be texting Jiminie-hyung?
He really misses you
I know
Listen, can you keep a secret for me?
Don’t know
I’m flying to Seoul
Okay
I don’t know why I was so shocked
You closeted romantic
I’ve been out of the closet long before you kid
Okay, okay
I’ll keep it a secret
You need something for me I assume?
I’m going to need a ride
Can you pick me up?
You’re getting me lamb then, but of course
And I'm bringing Namjoon-hyung
I’m really happy for you, hyung
This is surprisingly romantic though
Didn’t know an old man like you had it in you
Shut it brat
Smiling, even as Jeongguk proceeds to send him a bunch of angry emojis, Yoongi settles in. He’s now got 12 hours to burn, and he’ll need some sleep if he wants to have any chance of beating the jetlag and celebrating with his husband instead of collapsing on the couch and falling asleep instead. He’s rather happy that he could do this. Not to mention that knowing Jimin is just as sad as him, makes him feel a little less lonely. And maybe that makes him feel bad, but he misses his husband even more knowing that Jimin misses him.
Jimin wakes up on the morning of his anniversary to complete silence. It’s a sad feeling, as much as he wants to be happy, he really does miss his husband. It’s a sort of ache, how much he misses him. It's exaggerated slightly, but everything suddenly reminds Jimin of his husband.
The window of how Yoongi opens it in the morning to feel the wind, the pillows of falling asleep whispering to him only days before. Even the bed of their nights together, the bathroom of getting dressed in the morning together. The really are co-dependent, even more so since they have been married.
It’s only when he gets ready and sits at the cafe that they had their first date that he really feels it. He’d like nothing more than to call or text, but Yoongi should be in a meeting right now, and he can’t disturb him.
No matter how sad he is, Yoongi’s job does matter a lot to Jimin, no matter what his husband would say. Jimin knows that Yoongi would drop everything to be with him, but that’s not the point.
He stares at his cappuccino, swirling the cream in his cup.
“Jiminie!” a voice, Taehyung’s exclaims. Seconds later Taehyung and his fiance, Jeongguk, sit down next to him at the table.
Even though Jimin just saw Taehyung yesterday, he still smiles, happy to see him. “How are you Taetae?”
Tae smiles, “happy to see you. Thought you’d be here, and me and Kookie wanted coffee anyway.”
“You mean Jeongguk-ah wanted coffee and you wanted some sugary drink that can’t even be called coffee.” Jimin states, laughing. “I know you and you drank energy drinks over coffee during finals. There is no possible way you wanted coffee today all of a sudden. Unless you two suddenly switched personalities or something.”
“One day I’ll be drinking coffee and prove you wrong, Jimine,” Tae replies laughing, “but that day isn’t today.”
Jeongguk coughs, interrupting. “Not to interrupt or anything, but baby your drink is ready.”
Tae stands, glaring playfully. “Don’t move, I’ll be right back.”
Jimin holds his hands up playfully, smiling, “I’ll wait here.”
Jeongguk rolls his eyes at him. “You’re indulging him, hyung.”
“Like you don’t?” Jimin retorts, whip quick. “Now how are you doing anyways? That commision come though?”
The fact his childhood friend is an accomplished photographer in his right is always surprising to Jimin, even more than the fact his soulmate roommate in college and his childhood friend ended up dating and are going to get married at some point. Maybe it’s because his entire school years he would have sworn Jeongguk would be going into sports, rather than art.
“Yes,” Jeongguk says, bunny smile showing. “It took long enough, but it’s a good amount of money. Not to mention they’ve got Seokjin-hyung as a model so it’ll be easy. Aside from that they also just want some landscapes and that’s a breeze. A few hours in Jeju and I’ll be all set with the extra they’re willing to pay for that.”
Jimin laughs at that, knowing Jeongguk is understating the talent he has with photography. Getting the type of outdoor modeling projects with Vogue Korea and other magazines just proves it. He was scouted before finishing his degree. However, Jimin also knows that Jeongguk’s just as much as a perfectionist as he is, so he ignores the understating he was doing.
They both got into a lot of problems because of it when they were younger, yet they’ve improved over the years. Before, Jeongguk wouldn’t have even mentioned he was doing a project until it was done, and would have said it was just a small thing for a magazine.
Taehyung comes back, holding a monstrosity of a drink Jimin doesn’t want to know how many calories are in, covered in whipped cream, fudge sauce, and sprinkles. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t steal a bit from the two straws Taehyung has in it as soon as it’s placed down.
Only once they’re sugared up does Taehyung turn to him. “We’re going shopping today, as Jeongguk is going to abandon me soon, and we haven’t gone together in ages.”
Jimin raises an eyebrow to Jeongguk, who turns red, mumbling about a job he forgot he had.
Ignoring him, Taehyung continues. “Jin-hyung and Hobi-hyung are coming with, I have plans Jiminie.” Tae states, “we’ve got a bunch of stores to hit, and the spring collections have just come out!”
Jimin nods, pursing his lips. “I do need some new shoes, and it’s not like I’m doing much anyways,” he states suddenly bitter. Ignoring the look the two of them share over his head, he downs the rest of his coffee. “C’mon, we don’t have all day.”
He ignores the PDA of the two of them as Jeongguk heads off for whatever he’s doing. Seconds later, he and Taehyung start heading down the street, towards Myeongdong.
They meet Jin and Hobi in front of a department store, and just like that hours pass as they explore the shops on the street. Time better spent shopping then moping that his husband won’t be present. At least his friends are distracting him from it, and Jimin just knows that Yoongi had a hand in them doing this, reminding them that Jimin wouldn’t want to be alone, no matter how much he said he wouldn’t mind.
And if he picks up some outfits that Yoongi would kill to see him in, well that’s his prerogative, and not any sort of revenge for his husband not being with him.
Yoongi meets Namjoon and Jeongguk at the airport, the two of them meeting him right at the gate. He runs up to them, wanting to get home as fast as possible, his bags behind him. His flight was thirty minutes early, and he doesn’t even feel the jetlag at the moment as he gets into the car. He’s too excited, happy that he’s going to be seeing his husband on their anniversary..
Jeongguk immediately starts driving once he’s in the car, which Yoongi definitely appreciates. At least he knows the rush Yoongi is in, that frantic rush to get home. Namjoon almost always manages to travel with one of his boyfriends, so he never feels exactly how Yoongi is feeling right now, which is possibly why he is trying to engage Yoongi in small talk he wants no part in.
He hums as Namjoon continues, dithering about recent events at the company.
“Yoongi-hyung,” Jeongguk states from the front seat, “Jimin-ssi is out right now with Tae, Jin-hyung, and Hobi-hyung. Tae’s delaying him until 7, I’ve ordered the food and cake you requested, after we pick them up I’ll drive you home, okay?”
Yoongi smiles, “thank you Jeongguk-ah. It means a lot.”
“Why didn't you ask me?” Namjoon yelps, afront. “I’ve known you longer than the brat maknae after all!”
“It’s one thing for Jeonggukie to keep a secret from Tae, it’s another for you from Jin-hyung and Hobi.” Yoongi explains, “we lived together for nine years, I was there when you started dating the both of them. You can’t keep a secret, it’s funny, but I want to surprise Jimin, not let the Gossip Kings themselves know I’m doing this. Jimin doesn’t think I’m getting back until the day after tomorrow after all.”
Namjoon hums, pacified. “You did tell me when you were proposing after all, and I was best man, so we’re even in that regard.”
“Once you propose then we’ll be even.” Yoongi snaps back, “it’s taken you long enough at this point, come on, Joon-ah!”
Trying to advert another argument Joon and him have had before, Jeongguk coughs. “We’re here hyung. Can you grab the food so I can drop you off before they get back?”
Yoongi just hums in response, opening the door. “This conversation is not over Namjoon-ah. We will be talking about this later, you’ve dragged it long enough.”
He walks up the steps of the restaurant, the one he and Jimin had their first date at. They also ate here the day before their wedding, it’s a place that holds a lot of good memories for both of them.
Which is why after he grabs their favorites, Kimchi-jjigae and Bulgogi. After that he grabs one of the macaroons from the nearby french bakery, also Jimin’s favorite.
He heads back to the car, sliding in with the food. Jeongguk pulls out of the spot and the three of them head in the direction of Yoongi and Jimin’s shared apartment.
Yoongi and Namjoon have both calmed down, and the two of them speak quietly about the new producing their doing for a group in their company, TXT. It’s an interesting concept that Yoongi’s actually excited to be involved in, especially since the youngest, Heungkai, has been more involved than usual.
He leaves the car, waving to the two of them, “See you tomorrow?” he asks, “thanks for picking me up Jeongguk, Joon-ah.”
They nod, Jeongguk smiling. “I’ll give you thirty before I call Tae!”
Nodding, Yoongi makes his way up into his apartment. He opens it, swinging open the door to stare at the empty apartment. It’s time for him to prep, he had supplies all ready for their anniversary a month ago, and then hid them when he thought he wouldn’t be here.
So he starts to prep, happy he has enough time now to truly surprise his Jimin.
Jimin doesn’t quite understand why Taehyung ran off to pick up his phone. He would normally answer it right in front of them, especially since it was Jeongguk’s ring-tone. But no, he ran off and left Jimin to the mercy of Jin-hyung and Hobi-hyung.
It’s not like Taehyung’s running off to have phone sex, it’s barely five o’clock, so Jimin has no possible idea what he could be doing. It doesn’t matter that much though, Tae has been known to do weird things on some occasions. With a sigh, Jimin grabs one more outfit to try on, before heading to the register.
It was already agreed upon that Jin pay, and he does, grumbling about it under his breath as Hobi-hyung and Jimin both thank him. After all, Jin does have his model bonus for buying outfits from this specific brand, so he gets the clothes at like 50 percent off.
The three of them leave the store, Taehyung coming out of nowhere to say goodbye to him as the three of them head off to BigHit where Namjoon and Jeongguk are.
And that’s when Jimin heads off home, his new bags of clothing in his hands.
He walks, taking a good fifteen minutes to get back to the apartment, making his way up the stairs. At the top of the stairs, he stares at the door, brown and black wood grain slightly worn. Sighing, he opens the door, stepping into the darkened hallway.
And a light is on. Jimin frowns. He hadn’t turned on any before leaving, but one is on, the kitchen light at the end of the hallway. Frowning, he continues forward, bags still in his arms. And then he sees someone, a figure silhouetted by the light of the doorway. He takes only two steps forward before the figure turns, and Jimin sees his face. Then he drops the bags on the floor, uncaring of the way they slam against the floor, taking a step forward. He can barely believe it, and for a second, Jimin swears he’s hallucinating as he walks closer.
“Yoongi?” he asks softly. He can hardly believe it, that his husband is home. It seems like a dream, or maybe a nightmare that once he wakes up, he’ll miss him even more. He hopes his mind isn’t playing tricks on him as he continues forward, staring at the figure of his husband in the light.
His husband nods, and just like that he’s sobbing. Yoongi strides forward, holding him as Jimin feels himself crumple. It’s one thing that Yoongi made it back, but the fact he managed to somehow get back in time to celebrate the last few hours of their anniversary, that means so much to Jimin, that he can’t even get the words out.
Yoongi smiles at him, touching his face. “Are you okay, darling?”
Jimin laughs through the tears. “I will be. How did you make it here in time?”
“Sejin-hyung let me go,” his husband replies as Jimin wipes the tears off his face. “Let’s sit down, I got us dinner, and your favorite dessert.”
Jimin nods, heading over to their dining room table, with Yoongi following him. He enters the room to see flowers everywhere, pale pink and sunset orange, matching his hair. Aside from that the food itself is set up as well, Kimchi-jjigae and Bulgogi, with a bottle of wine between the plates set up.
Jimin smiles, sitting down as Yoongi pops the bottle of wine. “I still can’t believe you made it,” he states, continuing to smile, “are you sure that we aren’t dreaming?”
“It’s our first anniversary, I wouldn’t miss it for the world. And if it is a dream,” Yoongi pauses, ''I wouldn't want to wake up from it.”
Jimin smiles, raiding his glass for a toast. “Well, after this, shall we go and enjoy ourselves in our room?”
Yoongi nods, kissing him on the cheek, “I would be glad to spend the last few hours of our anniversary with you. I’ll bring the dessert with us.”
“What did you get?” Jimin asks, perking up.
“Macaroons.”
His favorite. Jimin smiles, then leans in for a kiss, pulling back slightly to face his husband, lips almost touching. “You know,” he states, whispering.
“I know,” his husband, his friend, his Yoongi replies.
Yoongi wakes up the next morning to his husband illuminated by the morning sun. Sitting up on their bed, he just stares at his stunning husband, his sunset colored hair illuminated by the morning. It’s not the first time he’s thought to himself how lucky he is that Jimin married him. He stands, padding on soft feet to pull Jimin into a hug.
The week has only just begun, and his second year with his husband has just begun as well. He holds him tight, hands gripping Jimin’s waist. His nose is tickled by his hair, a stunning sunset orange. It’s one of his favorite colors on Jimin, and a reminder of the bright orange Jimin wore on his head to their first date.
Sighing, his husband molds himself against him, and Yoongi continues to hold on tight, before pulling him in for a kiss, only pulling back to see the silent question in Jimin’s eyes. Yoongi says nothing, just quirks an eyebrow, before Jimin just nods, kissing him back.
Letting go, he relaxes, watching the sun go up and the city begin to come alive with Jimin in his arms. He still doesn’t move, just staring and holding his husband, his Jimin , tight.
He’s with his his home, and there is no place he would rather be.
