If we can be found, we sure can get lost

Summary:

“How was your trip back home?” The redhead asked as a way of greeting him.

“Like always,” he simply replied, continuing his walk to the kitchen to find something for breakfast. “Guess I’m gonna be a big brother though.”

“....what?” Eijiro asked, turning his head to follow the figure into the kitchen with wide eyes. “What did you just say?” He asked again after a beat of silence.

“I said it was like always.” Katsuki opens the fridge to look inside, contemplating eggs for breakfast.

“No no, after that. What did you say after that?”

“I’m gonna be a big brother.”

Stunned into silence, it takes Eijiro a few seconds to ask “What does that mean?”

Katsuki scoffs, grabbing three eggs, “It means my mom is pregnant, dumbass.” It doesn’t have the normal heat his voice holds, which throws Eijiro off.

“Serious?”

Chapter 1: Prologue 1

Chapter Text

It’s nearing their winter break and everyone is talking about their plans to go back home despite it just being a little over four months since they moved into the dorms to begin with. Katsuki isn’t excited to go back home, but he has been feeling a little homesick lately, especially with Christmas rolling around the corner. It wasn’t that he didn’t like being around the class, he just missed the quietness that home usually gave him.

Yes, his mother was loud at times, but she made the best food. He knew that his mom’s love spoke through the food she made day after day, especially when she woke up so early to slave away at making breakfast and lunch for all three of them. Katsuki would continue to deny it, but he’s always been a mama’s boy. He loved waking up early with her to make food in their silence, that was just how they always were.

His father was always a soft spoken loving man who would always praise them. The praises warmed his heart as much as it warmed his mother’s heart, he’s sure. Not that he would ever tell either of them that though. Yea, he’s feeling a little homesick and is ready to go back and lay in his childhood bed in a room that still has all of his belongings.

One week, just one more week before winter break starts, then he gets one day, just new years eve, to recuperate before having to deal with school again. He stares up at his ceiling, the colors of the sunset tainting his room almost a fire color through his half open balcony curtains. With a sigh, he closes his eyes to call it a night.

----

The week flies by where they force Katsuki into some sort of Christmas gift exchange. No matter how much he tried to leave, Denki kept pulling him back to the party, even going so far as dressing him up, along with Mina, and tie that dumb string to his leg. Thankfully the class was hyper focused on Eri though, the girl that was saved from Overhaul Katsuki had noted to himself. He hasn’t yet interacted with her and had no desire to interact with any more children then he had to.

Katsuki was one of the first kids picked up, so unfortunately everyone was still being their noisey selves, shouting from the doors as he quickly walked out with his duffle. Mitsuki waved from her window to all the excited kids. Even though she rarely voiced it, she was happy that Katsuki had so many people that cared about him, even if he didn’t specifically call them his friends.

“Look at you, always the popular kid,” Mitsuki laughed as soon as he shut the door behind himself. Katsuki just grumbled about how annoying his class was, quickly pulling his collars closer to his neck, hoping to keep the cold air out.

“How has school been, Katsuki?” Masaru asked, attempting to make eye contact with him through the rearview mirror.

“Like usual.”

“Nothing exciting for Christmas?”

“I talked to you guys every week, already. Nothing else has happened since last week.” He let out an exasperated sigh, still refusing to look at his parents, finding the snow covered sidewalks more interesting.

The ride home was, thankfully, quiet and peaceful for the most part. Even the annoying and overrated Christmas carols playing on the radio didn’t seem all that annoying. As soon as they rolled into the driveway, Mitsuki turns around to face him, a small smile on her face.

“Sorry kid, we have a doctor’s appointment tonight, but we can have a late New Year’s dinner after, alright?”

“You both have a doctor’s appointment?” Katsuki raises a brow.

“Well, I don’t want Mitsuki to drive herself, so I’ll be taking her. You’re welcome to come with if you don’t want to be home alone.”

“No thanks,” Katsuki fakes a gagging sound. “I rather be home alone than tagging along with you guys to the doctor.” A part of him wanted to know what happened, but he wasn’t one to pry, so he just quickly opened his door instead.

----

A part of him did feel lonely sitting at home alone, despite always complaining about the noise at the dorms. He couldn’t sit still, so he strolled into the kitchen to look through the fridge to figure out what to cook for dinner. Inside, they had all the ingredients for curry, probably wanted to make Katsuki’s favorite for the rare time that they had allowed the students home. He had yet to tell them that he was going to be interning under the current number one hero, Endeavor, Shoto’s father. Maybe he’d spill the news during dinner, maybe they’d be happy for him, maybe they’d be worried like Deku’s mom.

Katsuki started the curry, probably would finish making it too before his parents got home considering how long it’s been already. He was worried about what may have happened, but he didn’t know how to ask, especially if they were keeping this a secret from him considering they didn’t tell him at all during their weekly phone calls.
He’s not sure how much time had passed, but it was as he predicted, he had finished making the curry and even ended up taking a nap on the couch waiting for them.

“Katsuki,” Masaru’s voice gently rocked him out of his sleep. “Sorry we took so long, Katsuki. Are you still up for a late dinner?”

“Mmm” he rubbed his eyes and stretched his legs. “What took so fucking long?” He said while yawning.

“There was some complications, sorry,” his dad whispered, standing back up.

“What? What happened?”

“Let’s just get dinner set up and we can talk over dinner, alright? Your mom is setting up the table already.”

Katsuki is worried now. Complications? What happened with his mom? Why are they being so secretive about this? Do they think that he’s still too childish to handle these kinds of conversations without blowing up? Katsuki feels too uncomfortable in the silence as they’re all eating together. Never once has he thought his own home would be this quiet with him and his mother’s constant bickering.

“Katsuki,” his mother says after taking a mouthful of curry. “I don’t know how else to say this, but,” she stalls and it’s killing Katsuki inside, he’s unconsciously holding his breath. He looks up from his plate after the silence had dragged on for too long and his mother is looking right at him.

“I’m pregnant,” she smiles gently at him, probably the most genuine and out of character smile that he’s ever seen on her. “You’re going to be a big brother.”

He doesn’t even know why, but he feels tears welling up in his eyes. It’s not like he’s happy to have another little brat running around the house, but maybe it was relief that his mom wasn’t actually sick or something. He lets out his breath with a shaky sigh, he doesn’t want to blink incase the tears fall, he wants to will them away.

“That’s it?” He forces himself to say in a snarl, but it comes off with more relief in it than he wanted. “I thought you were dying or something, hag.” He blinks and allows one single tear to roll down his cheek. His dad is smiling at him too from next to his mom.

“Wouldn’t dream of dying on you, brat.” Her voice held too much happiness, and a part of him wonders if they were this happy when they found out they were pregnant with him too.

The rest of dinner feels more normal with all the tension in the air gone. The bickering is back and the worry in his parent’s eyes are back when he tells them who he’s interning under this time. He knows his parents love him, but he still has a part to act and he can’t be too soft, especially now with another little brat coming along.

----

When Katsuki returns back to the school, he has a few more days before his internship with Endeavor starts. A part of him is excited, but having to work with both Izuku and Shoto is already mentally draining. Nevertheless, he’s checking and double checking his gear just to make sure everything is functioning incase they do field work on the first day. It’s a restless night for him and he knows that he should be getting as much sleep as he can, but his mind won’t stop racing about how happy his parents were.

“Serious?”

“Do I have a reason to lie about some-” Katsuki is rolling his eyes, how many times did he have to repeat himself to this idiot?

“Congrats, dude!” Eijiro cuts him off with his shouting. When Katsuki turns to him, he’s staring right into bright, wide crimson eyes that’s filled with excitement. “Big brother Bakugo, I can’t even imagine that.” Eijiro is chuckling to himself.

“Fuck off, hair for brains!” Katsuki turns around, face slightly tinted with a pink dusting. “I’m gonna be the best fucking big brother the world has ever seen!”

----

His days are busy with the internship, crazy things seems to be happening with the League of Villains and pro-hero Hawks. He always has something to do, whether it’s chasing after villains with Endeavor, Izuku and Shoto or catching up on homework, sometimes with the company of Eijiro. Yet, the thought of being a big brother still lingers on the back of his mind.

Every Sunday morning when he calls his parents, he expects them to give him an update on how the pregnancy is going, but they never mention it again, almost like it didn’t happen and that a part of him just imagined that whole conversation on New Years Eve. He can’t wait till the next break to go back home and see his mother’s stomach to see if it was real or not - not that he wanted a break from being a hero.

----

His internship comes to an end as quickly as it began and it’s back to just focusing on school. There’s talk about how desperate the pro-heros must be to ask UA to make even their first year intern, but Katsuki doesn’t mind. While under Endeavor, he got to see some action and was even put some minor villains behind bars, though it felt like it was just the beginning of a much larger attack.

Katsuki wakes up early Sunday morning to give his parents a call, like always.

“Katsuki!” He hears his dad greet on the other end. “It’s always a good day when you’re the one who initiates the call,” Masaru chuckles on the other end.

“Just figured I’d get this done and over with as soon as possible.” He grumbles on his end.

“Have plans today?”

“No, just studying for a few tests with shitty hair later.” He plops down on his seat at his studying desk, tucked away at the corner. “Needs all the help he can get.”

“Ahh, Kirishima, right?” Katsuki just hums in agreement, ruffling through some notebooks to start prepping for their study session.

“Hey, Katsuki, keep next Sunday open for us, alright? I feel like it’s been awhile since we’ve seen you. Your mom and I want to take you out to eat, if that’s alright.”

From the far back, he hears a muffled scream of ‘you better be free, brat!’ which he automatically knows is his mother already.

“I just saw you guys a little over a month ago!” He growls into his speaker.

“Yea, but your mom and I wanted to take you out for Valentine’s day, unless you already have a date,” his father’s voice peaks in interest, almost teasing him.

“NO!” He shouts into his speaker, face going bright red at the suggestion. “I’m too busy for that shit!” He finally huffs out. He didn’t want to be at school when all the chocolates is handed out to every person except him anyway, so he begrudgingly agrees to meet his parents for fucking Valentine’s day.
