Fascination

Summary:

The four times that Mina Ashido couldn’t keep her eyes off of Hitoshi Shinsou, and the one time he couldn’t keep his eyes off of her.

Work Text:

1. First meeting

“As of now, consider this a declaration of war on hero class 1-A,” a boy with purple gravity defying hair said cooly, a look of determination flashing into his light purple eyes.

Mina Ashido should have been nervous about the declaration that he had made, but for some reason, she wasn’t. She was fascinated by him. All she could focus on was how...unique looking he was. He was somewhat above average height, had a very lanky frame, and wild, purple wavy hair. Probably wilder than Midoriya’s own hair, or hers, for that matter.

The one feature, though, that intrigued her more than his hair was his eyes. They were deep set and tired looking, like Aizawa’s. They were a nice shade of lavender purple. The spark of determination in his eyes was unmissable, Mina thought to herself, her yellow eyes bright with curiosity. Though, there was a slight touch of sadness to them as well. She really wanted to approach him. Before she could, though, he had walked away.

“Mina?” Ochako Uraraka asked, putting a hand on Mina’s shoulder, breaking through her train of thoughts. “You okay?”

“Absolutely! I’m fine!” Mina replied, flashing her signature smile.

2. The Sports Festival.

Hitoshi Shinsou. General Education, Class 1-C. Quirk: Brainwashing.

That was the information that Mina had been able to gather about the purple haired boy from her classmates. The students who were on the calvary team with Shinsou had all said the same thing: he brainwashed them during the competition to win. That his quirk is more similar to a villain than a hero. That other students should be careful about interacting with him.

“No wonder he looks so sad all the time,” Mina said to herself, watching Midoriya and Shinsou, mostly Shinsou, sparring with each other on the TV in the preparation room where she was sitting.

She should be cheering for Midoriya. She really should be. But for some reason, she can’t help but cheer for Shinsou as well.

When the match was over, the sadness in his eyes was evident. Mina barely missed it the first time, but it was obvious, and the whole world now saw that sadness.

That same expression of sadness soon turned into surprise as his fellow classmates cheered him on, telling him how cool his quirk was, and how he still did a great job despite his loss.

As soon as Shinsou made his way to the prep room area, Mina got up to greet him, trying to figure out how to approach him.

“Hitoshi!” Mina called as she ran up to him, causing the purple haired boy to stop in his tracks.

“What is it?” He asked, looking annoyed. “If you’re coming over to gloat about how great your class is, then get lost. I’m not in the mood.”

“I-it’s not that at all!” She replied, hurt about his assumption. “I just wanted to tell you that your quirk is amazing! And that you need to ignore anyone who believes otherwise!”

For a second, Mina could swear she saw a light pink tint on the boys cheeks, along with that same look of surprise gracing his features once more.

“Uh, t-thanks?” Shinsou replied, not exactly sure how to respond to the grinning pink girl.

“No problem!” She said brightly, winking as she ran away to meet up with Midoriya.

3. Transfer.

“Starting today, there’ll be a new student in your class,” Aizawa droned, his voice full of apathy.

“Sit anywhere you would like to, Mr. Shinsou.”

As soon as Aizawa had said his name, Mina perked up, and started to point to the empty desk by hers.

“Hitoshi!” She yelled happily, gesturing to the empty desk next to her. “Sit here, Toshi!!”

“Do not address the new student like that!” Iida said, scolding Mina. “I apologize for her rudeness,” Iida continued, bowing to Shinsou.

“Whatever,” Shinsou replied, taking his seat by Mina as she started chattering excitedly to him about God knows what.

“Hi! I’m Mina!” the pink girl said, grinning brightly. “We met at the sports festival!”

“Yes, I remember,” Shinsou said, slightly unnerved by how happy she was.

“Miss Ashido,” Aizawa said sharply, causing Mina to cease her chatter. “Now, that the announcement is out of the way, let’s continue the lesson.”

She tried to pay attention to Mr. Aizawa. She really did, but every time she looked up from her notes, she would start staring at Shinsou. She wanted to memorize every detail she could about him. From his wild purple hair (she wanted to run her fingers through it so badly) to those sad, apathetic purple eyes. She loved looking at him.

“Ashido?” Shinsou asked in his usual monotone voice. “Is something wrong?”

“N-nothing’s wrong! Sorry I spaced out!” She cried, grateful that her pink skin masked her blush. “Silly me!”

Shinsou shrugged, looking back at the board without a word. What a weird girl, he thought, she’s nice, though.

4. Reunion.

It’s been almost six years since Mina graduated from U.A., and at least four years since she saw Hitoshi.

Last she heard, he got a job working for the police department, catching villains. He uses his quirk to assist police in apprehending criminals. She also learned that he uses the hero name Mind Breaker. She only knew this because of the news. It’s not like she actively searches for information about him. It’s not like that at all.

She had to admit though, she was somewhat jealous of the field of work that Toshi was able to go into with his quirk.

There wasn’t much she could do with her acid, and she eventually got burned out on hero work. So, she went to college, took some business classes, and eventually opened her own little coffee shop by the name of Pinky’s Café.

It was a modest building. Not too big, not too small. It gained popularity due to the fact that the owner lived up to the namesake of her shop. The coffee and her sandwiches were good too, though.

The sound of a bell broke her train of thought. “Hi! Welcome to Pinky-,” she stopped mid-sentence as her former teacher and Hitoshi walked it.

“T-Toshi! Mr. Aizawa! Welcome!” She cried running out to greet them.

“Hello, Miss Ashido,” Aizawa said as he walked in with Shinsou. “Glad to see that you’ve grown up a little since I last saw you.”

“How are you doing, Pinky?” Shinsou asked casually, using the nickname he gave her back at UA.

“I-I’m great!” She said, giggling nervously as she played with the ends of her pink hair.

God, he looked great. That skinny frame that he had back when they went to UA was now lean and muscular, and those deep set eyes of his now had an air of confidence about them. Not to mention that he had probably grown at least three or four inches, making him even taller than she remembered. She was glad to see, though, that his hair still looked the same (hell, maybe better) after all those years.

“Miss Ashido,” Aizawa teased, using his stern teacher’s voice. “Are you going to stand there staring at Mr. Shinsou, or are you going to serve us?”

This time, both of his former students turned red. Mina, because she was once again caught staring at Hitoshi. Shinsou, because he was embarrassed about his mentor.

“S-sorry about that! Right this way!” Mina said, bowing profusely as she lead the men to a table in the corner.

“I guess some things don’t change,” Aizawa said, smiling softly.

“Choose what you want!” Mina said happily, placing menus in front of the two men. “It’s on the house for my two favorite people!”

“How kind of you, Miss Ashido,” Aizawa said, sitting down.

“S-so, Toshi,” Mina said, placing their food and coffee on the table, “I heard you work with the police department. How’s that going?”

“It’s.. it’s good, I guess,” Shinsou said, “the criminal activity has been lower than it has been in a while.”

“Excuse me, Miss Ashido,” Aizawa said, causing the two to stop talking. “Could you show me where the restroom is?”

“Of course!” Mina said, pointing him in the direction of the men’s room.

“It’s been a while, hasn’t it?” Mina said after Aizawa left the table, unable to break eye contact with Hitoshi. “We need to get a drink together! Catch up, y’know, talk about old times.”

“Y-you mean...like a date?” Shinsou asked, face going pink.

“Sure,” he said, flashing a small smile, “I’d love to, Pinky.”

For a second, Mina and Hitoshi could have sworn that they heard something along the lines of “about damn time” coming from the back.

5. 2 years Later.

To say that Hitoshi Shinsou was nervous was an understatement. Sure, he was excited but at the same time, his nerves made it to a point that he was almost shaking.

“Calm down, Shinsou,” Aizawa said, adjusting Shinsou’s purple bowtie, and putting a white rose in his lapel.

“I’m trying!” He replied, fiddling with a button on his suit jacket. “W-what if she changes her mind?”

“Then, we’ll cross that bridge when we get there. Though we probably won’t get to that bridge,” Aizawa retorted, adjusting his own bowtie. “You only go through this type of thing once. So enjoy yourself.”

“If you’re lucky, yeah,” Shinsou quipped under his breath.

“I heard that,” Aizawa replied.

“You ready, Hitoshi?” Aizawa asked, leading the way out of their room.

It’s always bad luck for the groom to see the bride before their wedding. That was what Shinsou always grew up hearing. He never understood until now why the grooms would always look so antsy about not being able to see their future wives. The suspense was killing him.

It’s taking an awful long time, Shinsou thought, did she change her mind?!

Aizawa’s elbow lightly hitting his ribs snapped him out of his anxiety filled thoughts. When he looked up, the sight he saw was absolutely breathtaking.

There she was. Mina Ashido, soon to be Mina Shinsou, being walked down the aisle holding the arm of All Might. He could tell that both of them were trying to hold back tears (joyful tears, of course).

Her pink hair, normally sticking out in all directions, was curled into ringlets with a braid that went around her head. God, she looked absolutely beautiful.

“H-hi,” he managed to whisper, after being at a loss for words.

“Hey,” she replied, giving him a wavering smile.

The only time that Shinsou was able to take his eyes off of his new wife was when he looked up at the minister as he said “I do”.
