The things about having a lot of scars are Naib doesn’t remember most of their stories. Where they come from and what happened that he got a scars so bad like that. Most of the night when Eli lay on the bed with him, Eli will start tracing his scars one by one with his finger.
“What’s the story?” Eli will ask sometimes, his finger stop at one of the scars in Naib’s body.
“I don’t remember,” Naib replied softly and Eli won’t ask about that scar again.
Some night Eli got lucky, he asks about one that Naib remembers and Naib will answer truthfully. Naib likes the way Eli gave him all of his attention to listen to his story. The way his expression changes when Naib describes how he got injured, even though Naib already filters his words to make it less gory.
“Does it still hurt?” Eli will ask after Naib finishes telling his story.
Yes, Naib want to answer, when the past come back to haunt me.
But the word that comes out of his mouth is different.
“No, not anymore,” Naib answered after some time because after he thinks about it, ever since Eli come to his life, the past stops coming to haunt him. They stop waking him up at night, they stop trying to steal his breath away in a bad way, they stop being a ghost from the past. They just become... memories. Even though it’s not a really good memory, but it’s not so bad either.
Most of all, Naib is just grateful that with Eli next to him, his memories don’t hurt him anymore.
