A Vigilante's Life

Summary:

The debut of the Heroic Vigilante: Dekiru, made a huge-wide impact in society, in more ways than one at a time. He was a mystery in more ways that people could describe, and Japan’s society was slowly molding itself around the presence of their new-green-rabbit vigilante.

With goosebumps under his suit, Izuku shivers with a thrill: He never thought he could reach such highs in such short notice. There was so much work to do, and so many people he wanted to meet!

Fond of his reaction, Toshinori only grins at their way up.

Notes:

I'm so glad you all liked the previous part! Due the welcome of said episode (And I thank everyone who had to put up with my horrible misspellings before I updated the previous part), I decided to revise and upload the next part of the AU!

This time, we have more changes to the Canon timeline. By now, It has been a little while for Izuku and Toshi since they left Japan, and now they're finally home. As I am excited as you all are, I will not hold you more! Enjoy!

Chapter 1: Meanwhile at Home

Summary:

It's been a while since Izuku and Toshinori had been on Japan's soil. Dekiru makes his triumphant return with a mission at hand. Meanwhile, class 5-A meets with their new teacher: The professional Quirkless Hero, Yagi Toshinori!

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

UA holds no records of any of his students having any resemblance to this popular heroic Vigilante. Neither of someone with such Quirk: Energy that allows the user to have super strength? and sparks of overflow around him? Weird. Officially, Dekiru had no hero training at all. They didn’t know who he was, or what was his name.

He was fast, Smart and Creative. With an analytic sharp mind. And he was Strong. Very strong. People loved him, getting to like him so fast that some Heroes found it shaking. The public just adored him, and even dared to compare him to All Might himself – Their deceased Symbol of Peace, the Forever Number One for the Generation that grows up Loving him with burning passion on themselves.

It wasn’t disturbing per se, as Hero worshiping was c.ommon. What made them shiver was that eagerness people had to have someone to Replace All Might. When had things gone so wrong?

.

.

Izuku hadn’t entered on U.A’s hero course after all. But it wasn’t a willing election, neither something he or Mr. Yagi had planned ahead. It was an emergency move. He was barely fourteen, for Lord’s sake. People were now trying to get a piece of him, and Toshinori had panicked at the prospect. Yet, It had not been his teacher’s main plan, but aside one just in case.

Midoriya, Who plainly agreed that people were looking for him at the moment a villain attack happened in his vicinity without any visible reason, agreed to his reasoning. They should pack up and disappear for a little while.

(It would be a while for them until Dekiru became really famous, and their little following travel would skyrocket said process.)

Getting an apprenticeship from I-Island, one of the Original Cedes of Mighty Tower was… weird. Izuku didn’t know how Mr. Yagi had got it. Or why David Shield himself ran to the airport and welcomed them so happily -if not a little used at Yagi’s current look. Miss Melissa, Professor Shield’s daughter, was really nice and kind, and her happy smile made Izuku’s guts warm with butterflies on it. Her smart mind allowed her to create a lot of stuff that would, in the future, support Dekiru on his battles.

As David Shield had been the Symbol of Peace backup, Melissa was slowly becoming his apparent successor’s one.

And she was Quirkless too. He almost floated.

David and Toshinori had drowned a shared laugh at Izuku’s feelings and exchanged a little conversation.

.

.

Iida Tenya wasn’t a relaxed Hero. Quite the opposite, and he was plenty happy that his self-discipline had given so many results: both to his grades and his beginning Pro-Hero career. U.A.’s students started officially his last year of preparations at Eighteen, even if their careers could very well start at that age. With the shaking event that was All Might’s demise almost a decade ago, new regulations had come into place. The hero academies’ pensum was lengthened three years more. One in the back, one in the end. So classes started with preparation year at 13, the 3 normal years from 14 to 17-18, and the two pre-college years after that, mixed with internships. Soon their 4th year would end, and their last walk will be opened before them.

And they will be the Heroes the World looks up to.

Tensei had proudly looked at him when the ceremony of the last’s years ended. His parents as well had come to visit, and they were oh, so proud of him for reaching this far that almost made Iida inflate as a Peacock.

His classmates were also enjoying their families company, and Iida as a good Class Rep should greet them all of course! That was also to wish good luck to them all. They would be seeing each other in a few months, but this was anyway a big step into the future.

“Oh, you must be Iida Tenya-Kun.” A blonde woman with red eyes greeted him. Next to her Bakugo grunted as she smacked him on the back of the head. “I apologize for any kind of trouble my shitty Son had made you pass through.”

“HAG, WHAT THE-?!”

“SHUT UP, YOU RASCAL!”

The brown-haired man that should be Bakugo’s father sighed heavily and the kind green-haired woman shared his face of resignation as Mr. Bakugo tried to calm down his wife- Iida blinked. Green haired woman.

“There is no need to apologize, Mrs. Bakugo.” Yayorozu came by too, as Vice rep. “It is also a pleasure to meet you. I am Yayorozu Momo. Your son is a very appreciated classmate for all of us.”

“Bakugo Mitsuki. you don’t have to be polite for this little shit.” Katsuki grunted and was smacked again. “This is my husband, Masaru. And our dear family friend, Midoriya Inko.” Mrs. Midoriya bowed softly at them, smiling kindly and tiredly.

“I am glad to meet you both.” She provided. “I know Katsuki-Kun can be a very difficult person some times. And I am happy to see that U.A. is even more incredible than I’ve expected it to be!”

“A-Auntie!” Katsuki, for the first time, looked a tiny bit embarrassed.

The meeting was kind of good. And families continue to introduce themselves. Jirou’s parents were musicians, Sato’s Mom a barker -who brought so many tasty pastries, Dear Lord-; Uraraka’s parents were kind civilians, and asides Momo, Tenya and Shouto, their class didn’t have any Hero parents around. Shinso’s family were both Psychologists.

Iida saw Mrs. Midoriya next time in the pastries table. She was having a plain cupcake with a glass of juice. “Mrs. Midoriya! Hello. Are you lost around? I do not see Mrs or Mr. Bakugo close by…” Tenya looked around, frowning a little to focus.

“Oh no! I am fine.” She said holding her little meal. “I am just… well. I am thinking how much my son would have enjoyed studying here…”  She confessed softly.

“Oh! Do you have a Son?” Iida felt awkward. “I-I am sorry. I shouldn’t pry. But, in my humble opinion, I must say studying at UA is very satisfactory.”

She kept her kind smile. “Is no problem.” She dismissed. “I do, too. His name is Izuku, is the same age as Katsuki-Kun. If he had enrolled, he probably would be graduating with you all…” She looked melancholic.

“If you don’t mind- Had something happened to him?” He asked cautiously. Heroes did hear civilians’ problems too, after all.

“He had been gone for a while.” She confessed sadly. “He is a late bloomer, and most of his life we thought he was Quirkless. I- I may not have been very supportive of his dream. He wanted to be a Hero…”

Oh. That… was something.

“Where is he now?”

“He met a retired hero worker that offered to train him. In the beginning, they stayed here, but finally moved to America when Izuku got an apprenticeship on one of his acquaintance’s companies.” Tenya’s eyes widened. Inko looked proud but absent. “He always was smart. Mr. Yagi -his tutor, the Retired man- sent me a letter five months after they left to accord a video call. Izuku was having a little jogging after visiting the Heroic support teams -he was very happy that they allowed him to try their new equipment, you know? Excited. He talked a lot about it…” She sighed, tiredly. “In one of his training, a machine exploded. One of the boy’s training with them was a late bloomer and his quirk manifested during the experiment. She was uncomfortable. “He got a mutation, and by it taking so long to wake, was extremely powerful for his body.”

She scratched her cheek. “He was calling me to make procedures in order to allow Izuku to take very serious and problematic training to keep himself sound at this kind of situation. He hadn’t come back or talked in a while, and being here in UA is… somehow nostalgic…”

The little woman sighed in the end and looked a little embarrassed. “I-I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to ramble so much…”

“N-No need to apologize.” He stated, recovering a little bit. “I just- I can’t imagine how difficult it must be for you, as well for him being so far away. Neither having to face such situations away from home.” He admitted shivering a little. “I truly hope your son comes back soon, Mrs. Midoriya. As well as safe and sound.”

Inko’s eyes were crystalizing a little bit, but she kept smiling kindly. “Thank you, Iida-Kun. I hope you get to be an incredible hero.”

.

.

“We’re finally back! Isn’t it awesome Shishio?”

Izuku almost floated in the entrance of the arriving zone in the Airport, being followed by the abnormally haunting Yagi Toshinori. He, as the proud mentor he was, offered a grin before his Pupil excitement by being once back his old and yet beloved home. Izuku has grown up pretty well, and Yagi was using clothing that fitted him well enough to make him look less skinny. It was very comfortable for both of us.

‘We should register ourselves, kid. Before something happens and our bags get suddenly lost.’

“O-Oh, right!” [Sorry!] Izuku signed back and jogged to catch up with his teacher. Tokyo’s airport was huge enough to marvel him at to a pretty good extent. [I am so happy to see Mom. Wait until she knows where I’ll be working on~!] Izuku snickered, beaming even brightly as continued sign-rambling with Toshinori leading the rout. “I can’t wait to meet the Principal too!” Squeaked.

‘Nedzu will be happy to see us too, Indeed.’

“I bet!”

Toshinori Yagi found being back to the U.A. campus very nostalgic. A little rumble of excitement bubbled under his skin and was highly welcomed with a trembling acceptance. Always since his condemned medication had been assigned to him, any kind of excitement that broke the numbness surrounding him was very welcomed with wide-open arms.

The excited rumble of his actual class was also most than welcomed, and people having these looks of doubts when looking at him was nothing new either. Class 5A from the hero course of Yuuei was noisy, loud, and strangely happy as well. Only Nedzu and Recovery Girl of all the staff knew who he used to be. And it was plenty of well for him.

“Moshi-Moshi.” Hoarsely as always, Yagi saluted his class and got a nice view of them suddenly shutting their mouths and sitting straight before him. “My Name is Toshinori Yagi. I will be your new foundational Analisis teacher for the time being. This subject was implemented to help you get creative, as well as focus on the real battlefield, and give you all the last foundations of what is a Hero meant to be.”

He turned around and wrote his name in the Western alphabet before placing the Kanji under it, and was very conscious of how the students looked at him surprised and somehow concernedly confuse.

“So cool.”

“He is skinny.”

“…I honestly don’t recall his name.”

“Hush. He is right there and can hear us.”

“As future heroes,” continued then, getting silence again. “There is a lot of casualties you may or may not confront at some point. Tactical desitions. What is better o what is not. How to apprehend a villain. How to fight against someone that advantage you all. Moral decisions. Logical Chooses and Ethical chooses.”

He turned around again, covering some scribbling over the acrylic board. “Heroes are linked to Moral, Ethics and Decisions Villians are not. Enemies will take advantage of this, and even peers when they want to succeed without working hard on it. Sometimes these decisions, or lack of them, will mark you forever.”

They felt the silence fell over them, and not few, but almost everyone understood the subtle meaning of the last statement. Time after, they will begin to link it with Professor Yagi’s current condition.

“Any questions?” He asked with a light voice. “Please state your name if you do. I’ll try my best to remember you all right since day one.”

The Pink Girl raised a hand, looking at him intensely. “I am Mina Aishido. Sir, Are you a Hero?” She asked.

Toshinori chuckled a little. “My, my. That depends on who you are asking.” He responded tranquility. “I rather refer to myself as a Hero-worker, tough. I had mostly done desk work and teaching recently.”

“You were a teacher before Yuuei? A-Ah. Sorry. Eijirou Kirishima, Sir.”

“Nice to meet you, Mr. Kirishima. Indeed. I had been a private tutor for years, alas this is my first time as head of a Hero Class.” Toshinori answered truthfully. “Mr. Iida, may I hear your question?”

The class rep had his hand rigidly raised, as well as Yayorozu on the other side of the class. “Sir. I don’t mean to pry, but is it wise to have an essential civilian giving classes at an upcoming Hero Generation?” Was wise let a total stranger teach them? Was left unsaid.

Toshinori’s smile becomes wary. “I can assure, Mr. Iida, that I have plenty of experience dealing with the topics of this class. You can ask Professor Ectoplasm, Hero Hedheshot and #2 hero, Best Jeanist, like them all had worked alongside me.” He stated strongly. “My records are, too, free to be checked in the Central cede of Might Tower on Shikaido. If they arise any concerns, I am pretty sure Sir NightEye will give it to be checked in.”

Few of the raised hands fell, including Yayorozu’s and Tokoyami’s. Mina, however, suddenly raised her hand with opened eyes, as she had forgotten something.

“Yes, Miss Aishido?”

“Which is your Quirk, teacher?”

“Ah! My bad. I didn’t born with one.”

.

.

“Ectoplasm-Sensei?” The said teacher turned around before his students. He was sketching some examples on the board. “I- I have a question, but it does not relate to the class…” Momo, being the only one that hadn’t harassed Mr. Yagi with questions, took the bravery to go ahead.

Ectoplasm closed the book on his hand. “Yes, Miss Yayorozu?”

“W-Well. Do you know someone called Yagi Toshinori? H-He is the new teacher of Foundational Analisis…”

“Yagi-Kun?” Mina, Kirishima, Iida, and Uraraka raised their eyes discreetly as the question. “Blond hair almost like a sunflower? Blue eyes? Tall and buffy?”

“Y-Yes? But he is very skinny and thin now. Do you know him?”

“I haven’t seen him since I left Might Tower years ago to found my own agency.” He admitted. Eyes widened as he continues. “I had no idea the Principal had hired him, though it makes sense…”

Iida raised his hand immediately. “Sensei, Can we know why he has chosen?” He asked.

Ectoplasm frowned. “Is not your place to ask, Mr. Iida. But I can guarantee that Yagi-San is most than skilled in his subject. If I worked under All Might for Fifteen years, Yagi-San must have done so for almost Thirty.”

.

.

“I found a photo of him! Well, what he probably looked like before… before what is he now.”

Mina showed them a photo on her phone once they got back into the dorms. On it, a tall, pretty buffy and smiling man with puffy blonde hair and blue eyes was caught attending somebody. In the hero-wiki, he was labeled under the Alias Secretary, and his description stated him as One of the Original workers of Might Tower, suspected to be related to All Might Himself.

All Might personal secretary!

Dear Lord, it explained why the headmaster had hired him. Yes. It also explained why Ectoplasm Sensei had walked fast towards the Teacher Lung once the class was over, and also why two hours later they had spotted Headheshot walking around the campus in the direction of the Principal Office. They hadn’t see Best Jeanist yet, but they had the strong feeling they would at some point.

This was huge. And also, explained why the man got so sharp about his capacity.

It was weird seeing the very serious Ectoplasm-Sensei smirk and joke sat with Professor Yagi. It was weird to see how Headheshot petted him on the back, both heroes with a small hint of worries on their physical language. They had a fourth member on the table -it wasn’t best JEanist, but a young boy with brush and puffy green hair that was really excited in the chat.

They got to wait onto the next class of foundational analysis to know his name.

“Greetings! I am Izuku Midoriya, and I am Mr. Yagi’s assis-”

“DEKU! What the Fuck are you doing here?!”

Ah. Yayorozu and Iida, like the rest of the class, wanted to whine. Bakugo had been absent the previous day. Darn it…

Izuku had jumped a little, obviously scared at the sudden shout. All the good feelings he was showing them seconds earlier faded as he became a huge ball of nervousness and shutter. “K-Kaa- I mean, K-Katsuki! I-I -didn’t know you were in this c-class-” He rambled nervously.

“To hell with that! You disappeared almost four years ago, where the heck had you-”

“Is everything okay?” Bakugo’s eyes widened and rage overcame him as Mr. Yagi came onto the room, worried frown over his face.

“YOU!”

Katsuki did know Professor Yagi?

Mr. Yagi smirked. “Me.” He greeted.

They flinched.

“WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE CREEP?!”

I am your teacher, Mr. Bakugo.” Yagi was not happy to see him. Also, he knew his name, they noted. “And, before you want to start one of your tantrums, Young Midoriya is my assistant and co-Teacher. There will be days I will not be able to join you, and Midoriya here will take the charge. I do expect from any single of you to treat him with the respect he deserves as a member of the Teaching staff. He haves the same authority over you as I do.“

There was a silent threat to it. They didn’t know which it exactly entails -asides, maybe, expulsion.

Bakugo attempted to grow loudly, evidently angered. “Say another word and you are expelled of my class.” He warned, writing up his name and Midoriya’s on the board. Professor Thoshinori Yagi and Professor Assistant Izuku Midoriya were stated down. “Please. Let’s begin our class.”

.

.

Dekiru jumped across the sky that night with an utter sense of despair crawling onto him. Katsuki being one of his- well, technically his student, was very bad. He didn’t respect Izuku at all, and Dekiru knew that Ground Zero was probably the same as him.

He landed over a roof and ran again, taking the border to impulse his next jump and look around for possible crimes to stop. It would be nice to spend some energy and relax a little after a battle.

But just after it. Since All Might’s… since All Might’s demise , criminals had been making their party land of Japan and heroes had a very tough time handling them by the first few years. Izuku was around ten when he had been seen less and less, and finally announced by Sir NighEye himself that he was in no condition to keep working on, and sadly, this was his goodbye.

All Might hadn’t say goodbye. Not in person, and that worried at a sick pint people around the whole country. Not a single photogram of him saying these words, just a statement of his sidekick about it. Izuku wondered if he was wrecked, just like Yagi, or were ashamed of not being capable to protect people any longer. Vigilantes had arisen too. People like him. Like the illegal heroes. Like the gentle villain Gentle. Or the loving hacker, LoverLover.

People like Stain.

He was who Dekiru wanted to meet tonight.

Izuku was- eager. He didn’t agree with Stain’s methods, yet he admired his ideals. Keep the meaning of Hero pure. Brilliant. Heroes that wanted to get fame and profit from their careers instead of helping up were not lies, but hurtful truths. Toshinori Shishio knew this side of view of him and said nothing when he proposed -shyly, as he knew he’ll probably be forbidden to- talking with Stain out.

After all, He had up to now being very careful with his objectives. Always hunting down heroes that could be proved guilty of hideous crimes. And hunting, too, Villians .

That was mostly why Izuku had been calling him The hero killer and Villian Hunter inside of his head. Not that Dekiru would ever confess such a thing to anybody. He did another jump. Great! He saw something! Fast he landed with a rollover his shoulder and side, standing up silently as he could, and activating Melissa’s new night vision equipment implemented on his hood. It was mostly like a malleable helmet now, and pretty comfy too.

“What are you doing here?

Shit. Discovered.

His eyes sparkled in green as he heard the hoarse voice. He raised his hands over his head. “I am not here looking for trouble tonight.” He provided. The voice wasn’t in the recordings of his data. “Vigilant Stain?” He asked.

Moonlight came again across some clouds holes, and the crimson dressed murderer stood before him sitting over a huge can of something. He huffed. “There had been a long time since someone had called me that, Kid.” Intimidating, Stain’s red yees were crossing him analytically. “ And I see, you are the same as me, but not quite.”

“Yes.” He agreed softly, lowering his hands down. “I am- I’ve come here looking for you, actually.”

You can do whatever you want with this power.

Stain’s eyebrow arches unfaced.

“My name is Dekiru.” He presented himself. “At least, that is what people had used to call me these days. I go for Midori, too. Or Shinrai as well.” e provided kindly. After all, he hadn’t technically take Dekiru by his own will to be his hero name. He had plenty of rights to choose another one.

I don’t care if you use it as a Hero or a villain.

“And I am here because the las that defend our Heroes are Flawed.” He stated bravely, his chin protection making good use of the distortion microphone. Stain eyes widened a little bit, and he felt like he was getting something. “I do now you persecute similar ideals as I do, even if they are radically taken. Your course of action, even if it is extremist, is- I see it as admirable…”

I’ll Be happy knowing such a kind and gentle boy is wearing this power.

“Admirable.” Stain started slowly, not believing him.

Dekiru nodded. “You moved.” He stated softly. “You tied to do something, and when it was not enough you decided to take cards in your hands as well.” I did it too. It was left unsaid but obviously referred to.

Mr. Yagi’s kind smile was enough to make Izuku determined to succeed.

“You think I did well…”

“Yes!” He stated bravely. “Extremist or not, I do believe your ideas are admirable. And I do believe that what you do is your way to get things better.” He stated. Izuku’s punches were trembling. He was nervous.

“I feel here comes a question.“

Here goes nothing.

“I’ve come here today to ask for your help.” He said. He was nervous. Heck, a lot. “I do not ask you to join me. Or be my follower, o my sidekick. NEither I ask you to accept me as any of those. I want you to consider work with me someday as equals.”

Someday, as two persons trying to do the best for this wrecked society of hero worshippers, I would like to have you working with me. Side by side. As partners, and as Team.

Notes:

Oh, my dear, dear Izuku. Could you please not get into trouble? Toshinori is going to flip because of you. The moment I put Izuku as a vigilante, I knew he would need to face Stain eventually. And here we have him! The next chapter will feature vigilantism life and what a mess Izuku has made with this little 'alliance' of his.

I'm a mess with first chapter notes, apparenty. I think I spent half an hour trying to get it XD Anyhow. I decided to cut this 'episode' in parts, because the last one was 22 pages long, and this one was 40. In the end, I mixed Oneshots two and three and we have few chapters ahed of us~

Until the next time!
