Coming Home To You

Summary:

Victor has only one thing on his mind and that's making his way home to his sick wife.

Notes:

A/n: *DJ Khaled voice* Another one! Since I haven’t written for Victor yet this was a bit of a challenge. I hope I did our grumpy CEO justice! Please excuse any typos or grammar issues! I did my best to correct them!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

The anxiousness that swelled up inside Victor refused to go away. Not when he sat on a fourteen hour flight heading home or when he made it to the car that was waiting to pick him up at the airport.

All he could think about was you. His wife.

You were supposed to accompany him on his week long business trip, but after contracting the stomach flu the day before departure you opted to stay home.

He had been anxious about leaving you alone and made sure to send Goldman to check on you as much as possible.

Victor was full blown worried, by the third day. He offered to come home early, more than willing to cancel his next set of meetings, but you convinced him otherwise. He was on the verge of hiring a specialist just to make sure, but you were adamant about not wanting to go through such troubles.

By day five, Victor received a call from Goldman saying you had fainted at work. His assistant didn’t even have time to utter another word when Victor ordered him to book the next flight home and cancel the rest of his meetings, including the one that was about to start in less than ten minutes.

When he spoke to you on the phone as he boarded the plane, you laughed stating all of this had to do with food poisoning. Victor found that hard to believe and the doctors were way too vague while explaining your condition for his liking. You did your best to ease his mind, but that wasn’t enough.

He knew you didn’t want him to worry.

Dummy…

You were always like that. Putting everyone else’s needs before your own. It was an admirable, but annoying trait you possessed. You could be on your deathbed and still try to help those in need.

How did he end up with someone so altruistic to a fault? It was beyond him how his heart let this happen, but here he was; completely in love with a selfless idiot.

He never regretted falling for you the way that he did. You brought out a side of him even he didn’t know existed and he was grateful. Grateful to have you in his life, grateful that you saved a man who didn’t even know he needed saving, grateful for you just being alive. While he was never one to express himself easily, he hoped through his actions you knew all of this.

When Victor finally made it home, still annoyed that the doctors had released you, he found you curled up on the couch with paperwork scattered all around you.

Your eyes lit up at the sight of him as Victor briskly made his way over to you.

“What are you doing here?” You asked as he knelt before you.

Did you seriously just ask that?

“My wife faints at work after days of being sick and you expected me not to be here?” Victor frowned as he placed a hand over your forehead. No fever. That was a good sign.

You set the paperwork in your hands aside, allowing your husband to examine you. “I’m just surprised is all. I know how much this trip meant to LFG, so I didn’t think that-”

“That I would abandon my duties as CEO to tend to my sick wife?” His question came with “are you really that dense” undertones and a deep rooted frown. Did he not show how much he cared for you? Was it not clear that he would go through hell and back just to make you happy? LFG was his baby. He would do anything to make sure his company continued to thrive, but you were his top priority. Victor would always choose you.

Seeing his hurt expression, you cupped his face with your hands, a soft smile forming on your lips. Your smile brought so much warmth to the man. It was like an instant relief to the anxiety that built up within him over the last few days. Still…your implications left him feeling a little hurt.

You leaned in for a kiss, but Victor’s frown still remained.

“So grumpy.” You laughed as you closed the distance between the two of you again, leaving peppered kisses all over his face. You made it so difficult for him to stay upset with you. All the affection you showed him completely tore down any walls he strategically built over the years. You pulled away far enough to gaze into his eyes. Victor noticed there was something about the way you looked at him. He couldn’t quite put a finger on what it was, but your gaze mirrored the one you had on your wedding day. It was so full of love, hopefulness, determination, and happiness.

“I love you.” You whispered softly, but it was loud enough for him to hear. And just like that he was putty in your hands. Victor sighs giving into your affection and gives you a quick kiss before standing up. You rise from your place on the couch with a huge smile on your face.

“I can already tell we’ll have a grumpy baby on our hands. I just hope my kisses will be enough to sooth them.” You giggled.

Victor looked at you for a moment, a bit confused by your statement. You too looked a little surprised as if those were words that were not meant to leave your lips.

He blinked a few times and suddenly the realization hit him.

Holy shit…
