Work Text:
Park Jimin was known at campus for being the perfect human-being. He was kind, considerate and helpful. He seemed to be friends with everyone, always generous to help where help was needed and he always gave a kind smile to anyone who looked his way. And oh how people looked his way. He couldn’t even walk ten meters without turning heads. Not only had Park Jimin the perfect personality, he also had the perfect look. Even though he might be small, his legs were long. His waist slim and abs could sometimes be spotted when he stretched his body, his shirt sliding up to reveal his midriff. His face looked like it had been shaped by the gods, with his sharp jawline which contracted the soft cheeks. His eyes were sharp, but had a gentle look to them. His lips were full and had a rosy color. He looked so perfect, you’d imagine that he wouldn’t even bother to put on makeup or be well dressed, since he would look good in anything. But that was actually the opposite. Whenever Jimin left his dorm he would always be well dressed and wear beautiful makeup.
Why did he do that, you may wonder.
Jimin believed in love at first sight.
Jimin wanted to look good for his one true love once he finally met him and therefore he went through all that trouble to look perfect 24/7.
So of course, the one time he slipped up is the day he met his one true love.
It happened the night to a Wednesday. Jimin had been up late studying, pulling an all-nighter as a very important exam was coming up at the end of the semester. During his many hours of studying, Jimin had run out of both food and coffee which were both necessary study essentials. Also, he was fancying a facemask since his skin was starting to feel really tired. To get the things he needed, Jimin decided to go to the convenience store which was in the middle of the campus dormitories
He put on a thick fluffy jumper. It might be a short trip, but these late November nights was really cold and he didn’t want to turn into an icicle by the time he made it to the convenience store.
Jimin winced once he saw his own reflection when he walked past the mirror on his way to put on his winter boots. His silver hair was messy and unkempt. His face was makeupless. His skin looks tired and had spots showing. On top of that he had dark circles under his eyes.
Yikes.
He really hoped that he didn’t run into anyone during his small trip to the convenience store. But then again, it was three in the morning. Who could he possibly meet in the convenience store at three on a wednesday morning aside from the worker?
It was not like he was going to meet his one true love there.
Jimin decided that it would be safe to make the trip looking like a mess, so he grabbed his wallet and headed off.
Even though he had worn his warm, fluffy hoodie, Jimin still felt like a block of ice once he made it to the convenience store. His cheeks, nose and ears had gotten red from the cold. But it was fine. He wasn’t going to run into the man of his life tonight after all.
The bell rang once he entered the convenience store and was shortly followed by a unenthusiastic ‘welcome’ by the student worker, who was sitting by the register studying. The worker was probably studying for the upcoming exams just like Jimin.
Jimin went straight to the isle with kimbap rolls and triangles. There weren’t many left, but he wasn’t surprised since it was in the middle of the night and stock up wasn’t until another hour or so.
His eyes scanned the few kimbap rolls that was left, looking for his favorite: bulgogi. Yes, it might be a simple one, but it was a classic because it tasted absolutely delicious. A smile brightened his face once he saw that his favorite still was available. It was the last one. Jimin couldn’t believe his luck.
He reached out for the bulgogi kimbap roll, licking his lips as he couldn’t wait for the delicious taste hit his taste buds, only to see it be snatched away right in front of him by a hand much larger than his own.
“Hey!” Jimin piped up, refusing to let the big hands steal away the only joy he had in the dark times of exam preparations, “That was mine!”
He instantly regretted his rude outburst once he looked at the person who had taken his kimbap roll. The guy looked absolutely stunning and Jimin could feel his heart skip a beat.
Bulgogi kimbap stealer a.k.a. Big Hands was about the same height as Jimin himself, just like Jimin prefered in a guy. No need to stand on tip toes and it was easier to leave kisses whenever. His skin was fair and light, it looked healthy and well taken care of. A man who took care of himself was really attractive to Jimin. His black hair looked soft and shined in the light of the convenience store. Jimin was dying to run his fingers through it. He looked so handsome, but what made Jimin’s heart beat fast was his eyes. They were sharp and cat-like, yet they had a softness to them which mellowed it out, giving him a soft look.
Jimin suddenly felt very ugly and messy standing next to this handsome stranger. He regretted not looking presentable when he had left the dorm for his small trip. He should have known that the day he slipped up was the day he would meet the man who would own his heart. Now he had messed it all up. He had been rude to the stranger and on top of that he looked terrible. No way the stranger wanted anything to do with him after this brief encounter.
“You wanted this?” Big Hands asked, his voice deep. Oh god, it was deep. Jimin could feel his legs shake lightly under him. This really was the guy of his dream. “Hmm. Since this is the last one, how about we share it then?”
Share?
Share? Had Big Hands kindly offered to share the last bulgogi kimbap roll with him? Even after his messy appearance and rude outburst?
“If it’s not enough to fill you up, I can buy a ramen for us to share as well?” Big Hands continued when Jimin didn’t answer. He really stood behind his offer of sharing the kimbap and he even wanted to make sure that Jimin’s stomach would be filled.
“I’d like to share it.” Jimin said feeling his cheeks go red, though not from the cold this time. “The kimbap.”
“It’ll be my treat then.” Big Heads smiled, before walking up to the counter to pay for it.
Jimin strolled after, grabbing himself a facemask and a hot coffee on the way. The items had been on his to-buy list after all, so he might as well get them while he was here. He couldn’t let a handsome and kind stranger distract him too much from his tasks.
Once his items were bought, Jimin joined Big Hands next to the table by the window.
“You getting ready for the exams as well?” Big Hands asked eyeing the items Jimin just had bought.
“It is that obvious?” Jimin asked, letting a small laughter fall from his lips. He didn’t know why, but he felt really shy under the stranger’s soft gaze. He let his gaze fall to his own small hands, which he was warming on his hot coffee. He much rather wanted to look at Big Hands but it made his heart beat too fast and Jimin had no idea how to make it slow down.
“Carbs, coffee and facemasks. That’s like a first aid kit for university students.” Big Hands replied, humor present in his voice. “How many all-nighters have you had in a row?”
“This is my third.” Jimin answered, playing with the lid on his coffee.
“Third?” Big Hands asked surprised and sounded slightly disapproving.
Jimin nodded, biting his lower lip. Why did is suddenly feel like he had been scolded by a boyfriend?
“Then we better get some food in you, so you can get some energy.” Big Hands said gently, handing Jimin a pair of wooden chopsticks before he unwrapped the kimbap for them to eat. Jimin could only focus on the big hands as he accepted the chopsticks. “Go ahead.”
“Thank you for the meal.” Jimin said politely and broke the wooden chopsticks apart, picking up a piece of kimbap. The piece was slightly too big for his small mouth, but Jimin didn’t care. He stuffed it inside in one go, making it fill up his cheeks. Once the delicious flavor hit his tongue he let out a satisfied moan.
“That good, huh?” Big Hands asked and Jimin finally lifted his gaze to meet the stranger’s eyes, sending him a smile and an agreeing hum to show how thankful he was that Big Hands had been kind enough to share the kimbap with him.
“Thank you so much for being kind enough to share it with me.” Jimin said once he had managed to swallow the whole piece, “What is your name by the way? I want a name on my prince charming.”
This time it was Big Hands’ turn to get red cheeks and Jimin found it absolutely adorable. “It’s Yoongi.”
“Nice to meet you, Yoongi.” Jimin said, picking up a new piece of kimbap. “I’m Jimin.”
He plopped the piece of kimbap into his mouth, crewing happily. This turned out to be a good night. Midnight kimbap date with a handsome stranger. It was a bit romantic, wasn’t it?
As Jimin plopped in yet another piece of Kimbap, he noticed that Yoongi was resting his head against his hand as he was watching him with a soft and fond look in his eyes. His chopsticks were still unsplit. Yoongi hadn’t eaten any of the kimbap he had paid for yet.
Jimin gently pushed the kimbap toward Yoongi, sending him a pretty smile. He hoped his smile could make up for how terrible he looked. He really wanted to charm the other. “Please have some.”
“Oh, right.” Yoongi said, looking a bit embarrassed that Jimin had caught him staring. He split his wooden chopsticks and picked up a piece of kimbap. Jimin couldn’t help but smile as he watched Yoongi eat. There was something satisfying in watching someone you liked eating.
“Are you a student as well?” Jimin asked curiously, taking a sip from his coffee as he had already finished his half of the kimbap and wanted Yoongi to have the other half.
“Yeah, I’m a fourth year music student.” Yoongi said, licking his lips to make sure there weren’t any rice sticking to them. “I finished my last exam for the semester today, so this is my celebration meal.”
Jimin looked down at the kimbap, or the few pieces that were left of it. This was his celebration meal? This was Yoongi treating himself? Somehow this made Jimin feel sad. Especially because he had eaten half of it. He should make up for it somehow. Maybe by inviting Yoongi over for dinner or something? Then he would have an excuse to see him again.
“What are you doing up this late then?” Jimin asked, tilting his head. Himself was up to study for the upcoming exam - or well, right now he was procrastinating by flirting with a handsome stranger.
“I was composing.” Yoongi answered, picking up a piece of kimbap and he'd it up to Jimin's lips. "Eat."
Jimin could feel his cheeks heat up as he let Yoongi feed him. He blushed even more when Yoongi smiled as he watch him chew. Why was he looking at him so softly? The softness was melting Jimin's heart.
“So you make your own music then?” he asked once he finished chewing.
“Yeah, I work best during night time.” Yoongi answered, plopping the final piece of kimbap into his own mouth, chewing it slowly as he let out a low and satisfied hum. He curled the wrapper into a ball and threw it into the trash can. “Are you sure you’re fill? My ramen offer still stands.”
“I’m fine.” Jimin reassured with a smile, “but thanks.”
Somehow Yoongi looked sad that Jimin had rejected his ramen offer, though Jimin wasn’t sure why.
***
Somehow it ended up with Yoongi insisting on walking Jimin home, even though he only lived one block down. Jimin didn’t mind. He was more than happy to spend as much time as possible with Yoongi. He even walked slowly just to drag out the time, not caring that it was cold.
“Aren’t you freezing?” Yoongi asked as he was looking at how poorly Jimin had dressed for the night’s cold weather. Yoongi, himself, was wearing a big winter jacket to fight off the cold.
“A bit.” Jimin admitted honestly, “But it’s fine. I don’t live too far from here.”
Jimin felt something warm touch his hand. He jumped slightly in surprise, but quickly calmed down once he realized that Yoongi was holding his hand.
“Your hand is as cold as ice.” Yoongi commented in a mumble as he put their intertwined hands into the pocket of his winter jacket to warm up Jimin’s hand. “Someone as pretty as you shouldn’t be freezing.”
Pretty.
Jimin was looking like a mess and Yoongi still found him pretty. Jimin could feel his heart start fluttering. Yes. This was the guy. This was the guy who owned his heart. Someone who could see him at his worst and still find him beautiful.
Soon. Way too soon, they reached Jimin’s dorm. For a brief second Jimin considered pretending that he lived further down, but that would only bite him in the ass later. Letting out a soft sigh he stopped in front of the door, fishing his keys out of his pocket.
“Do you want to come in?” Jimin asked hopefully, not ready for their nice evening together to come to an end. There were so many more things he wanted to know about the other. So many questions he wanted to ask. So many things he wanted to do.
“I’d love to, Pretty.” Yoongi said with a gummy smile on his pretty face, giving Jimin’s hand a small squeeze before taking out from the pocket and back into the night’s chilly air. “But not tonight.”
“Why not?” Jimin asked, a pout forming on his lips. He wanted to spend more time together with Yoongi. The night was still young. Or, it was actually 5 in the morning, but who cares? He wasn’t ready to say goodbye.
Yoongi let out a fond laughter as he caressed Jimin’s small hand in his own big ones. Jimin loved how his hand disappeared into Yoongi’s palm. “Weren’t you studying?”
“Oh. Yeah.” Studying. For his exam. Jimin had completely forgotten that. He had been too distracted by the handsome stranger.
“But I’d love to take you out for another late night kimbap sometime.” Yoongi smiled, letting go of Jimin’s hand since they were about to part ways. Jimin was already missing the warm touch, but at least Yoongi wanted to see him again. He would feel the warm touch again next time.
“I might stay up late tomorrow night.” Jimin said with a teasing smile on his lips. He wanted to play a little so he didn’t seem too desperate, but he a wanted Yoongi to know he was flirting. “I might drop by the convenience store to get another coffee.”
“I might bump into you then.” Yoongi said, leaning in to place a soft and warm kiss on Jimin’s cheek that had gotten pink for the cold. The warm lips lingered for a while, but Jimin didn’t mind. Not one bit. “Good night, Pretty.”
As Jimin watched Yoongi walk away, he let let his hand up to touch the stop where Yoongi’s soft lips had touched. The place was feeling warmer than the rest of his body and butterflies started fluttering in his stomach.
“Goodnight, Yoongi.” he whispered out into the night, catching Yoongi’s gaze when the other looked back. He would definitely show up at the convenience store the following night at three in the morning. Not to get a kimbap, but to get another kiss. Maybe this time on the lips.
