Chapter 1: The Perfect Tree

Chapter Text

“Todoroki, hurry up! We’ve got to pick out the best tree before someone else takes it," Midoriya said while pulling his boyfriend towards the tree farm. Todoroki sighed and let himself be dragged.

“Midoriya, I’m sure we will be fine. It’s just a tree.” Todoroki didn’t understand what the big deal was about a tree. His Christmas’s were usually filled with half-wrapped gifts from Natsuo or Fuyumi and cups of hot cocoa while watching their favorite shows or movies.

“It’s not just a tree! It’s a Christmas Tree, which means it has to be tall and perfect,” Midoriya stated. His eyes were gleaming from just imagining the tree he would find. Todoroki chuckled and reached down to interlace their fingers together.

“We barely have room for everything in the apartment. Where are you going to put a ‘tall and perfect’ tree?” Todoroki pointed out. He didn’t want to ruin Midoriya’s mood, but they really had no space left in their overly crowded living space.

“I don’t know yet, but we will figure it out. Now c’mon! Let’s go pick out a tree.” Midoriya smiled at his boyfriend and continued to drag him along.

The two boys walked around the tree farm and inspected all the trees that they passed. Midoriya was checking for everything including the width of the trunk, how tall the tree was, and how strong each branch was. Todoroki just sighed after every tree that failed Deku’s Evaluation.

At some point, the pair got split up. Midoriya had been rushing off to another section of trees and Todoroki got distraction by the lights that were on sale for half off. Once Midoriya noticed, he left the trees he was looking at and made his way to the where they were last together.

As he approached that spot, he found his boyfriend tangled up in blinking lights. Todoroki was looking at them with wonder in his eyes. As Midoriya neared Todoroki, the taller male glanced up to see an amused expression on Deku’s face.

“Can we please get these? Look at how pretty they are!” Todoroki pleaded. He was acting like a child who wanted a stuffed bear. Midoriya took a moment to giggle at the image.

“Yeah, we can get those, but we need to pick a tree first. C’mon, let’s get you out of that.” The two boys spent the next fifteen minutes untangling Todoroki. After they were done, Midoriya grabbed Todoroki’s left hand and they continued their search for the perfect Christmas tree.

It had been hours of searching and the sun had begun to set. The couple was looking at the last few trees at the end of the lot. Todoroki realized that Midoriya had lost some hope during their search, but Todoroki knew he would never fully give up.

They neared the last three trees in the farm when Midoriya’s face light up.

“Todo, Todo, look! That’s it. That’s the tree I want,” Midoriya let go of Todoroki’s warm hand and ran straight into a tree. Todoroki looked the tree up and down.

It was a nice tree. It had a study trunk with thick branches that could easily hold both ornaments and lights. Midoriya was hugging the tree like a koala and Todoroki couldn’t help but laugh.

“Alright, we can get that one. I’ll go grab the employees to wrap it up,” Todoroki stated as he turned around. He sensed Midoriya fall into step beside him, but once he looked over, he couldn’t help the smile that spread across his face.

Midoriya had easily picked up the tree and was carrying it over his shoulder like it weighed nothing. He was smiling and Todoroki thought he would go blind with how bright his boyfriend’s smile was.

“Do you need any help, Midoriya?” Todoroki asked. The shorter male shook his head.

“Nah, this is light compared to dragging All Might across the beach,” Midoriya replied calmly. His pace quickened as confident smirk graced his face. Todoroki stood frozen, not and inch of his body moving.

“You did what?”
