Work Text:
A kiss is a simple action that can hold so much meaning.
A kiss to the cheek is cute and affectionate, a sign of caring about someone in a playfully sweet way.
A kiss to the forehead is tender and meaningful, an intimate gesture meant to comfort.
A kiss to the hand can be flirty or chivalrous, a way to express interest or to show respect.
A kiss to the neck can be arousing and passionate, something saved for people you have a more carnal relationship with.
And a kiss to the lips, especially from someone you love, is one of the most intimate and meaningful things of all.
Josuke had had many kisses already by the time he’d turned sixteen: Loving kisses from his mom to tell him that she loved him or to soothe his injuries. Shy hit-and-run cheek kisses occasionally from kids who had a crush on him or vice versa. Even a few more intimate kisses from his previous boyfriends and girlfriends.
But, he found while sharing a kiss with his current boyfriend, there was nothing quite like kissing Okuyasu.
The other boy wasn’t as experienced as Josuke in the romance department- he’d had crushes before, but they never really went anywhere. As such, he’d never even had his first kiss until meeting Josuke. He had to guide his boyfriend in how to tilt his head, when it was and wasn’t okay to use his tongue, that you only want moistened lips when kissing someone on the lips but not anywhere else on the face because it feels gross, and even that “movies and books are stupid, you’re allowed to breathe through your nose, dude- it makes the kiss last longer!”
It had taken several practice runs to get it right, something that Josuke certainly wasn’t going to complain about. By the end of their second month together Okuyasu had improved significantly thanks to Josuke’s training. He was now just as good at initiating kisses as he was at responding to them.
Even with his training, though, there were some traits that were solely Okuyasu: He was always eager and excited each and every time they kissed, whether it was the first one or the fifth in a repetition of kisses. He could never resist trying to hold Josuke in some way whenever their lips met, either by wrapping his arms around him or even just cupping his face- he always seemed to crave more contact no matter what. He’d always let out this quiet, pleased little hum whenever their lips met, even if he was the one who initiated the kiss or if it caught him by surprise, as if he couldn’t help vocalizing the pleased feeling he got from the contact.
Then, there was the thing that made kissing Okuyasu so different and so much more special than any other person that Josuke had kissed before in his life- the feelings of absolute love and adoration that the other boy put into each and every single kiss without fail.
Josuke had had a couple of girlfriends and one or two boyfriends before, ones whom he had kissed and felt close to, but most of those relationships didn’t last very long. The closest comparison he had to his current relationship was with his previous boyfriend, but that guy had been a jerk in ways that Josuke was just too blinded by love to see. Now, with Okuyasu, he could tell the difference between true love and what he’d been fooling himself with before.
Where his ex’s initiated kisses were greedy and demanding, clearly trying to either stake a claim or start something more dirty, Okuyasu’s were always tender and open, allowing Josuke to dictate how he wanted the kiss to go and content with whatever his choice was.
Where his ex’s received kisses were returned out of habit or obligation, Okuyasu’s were returned with the same amount of love and excitement as if he’d initiated the act himself.
Where his ex’s way of being intimate was to kiss Josuke’s hand with a wink or go straight for his neck, Okuyasu’s was far more tender with a kiss to the forehead or to the corner of his mouth.
Where his ex’s love and passion seemed to die out after the first few months, Okuyasu’s was like an eternal flame that never faltered or wavered in the slightest.
Each experience was night and day, and Josuke quickly realized that he preferred the warm and loving day to the cold and demanding night. There was no contest- Okuyasu’s kisses won hands down, every time.
Even now, a little more than two years after they’d shared their first kiss and lying side by side in bed together, Josuke felt like he could never get enough of the way the other boy kissed him.
And he hoped he never would.
