Bendita Tu Luz

Summary:

Afternoons in the setting sun are made for being in love.

Notes:

I have not stopped feeling this pain in my chest because of these two so here I am. Everytime I post it's because I'm in pain and need to write comfort fics for myself lmao
Hm, I'm not sure how I'm supposed to tag this pairing...like they're married so her last name should also be the same as his...but...I don't know lol. Tell me if ya'll know
Also I like to be inspired by music when I write so I made the title the song I was listening to cause I'm weird like that. It's by Mana. So my spanish speaking peeps there ya go lol.

Work Text:

The sun was setting making the surrounding trees cast long shadows across the dirt ground towards their home. In was a summer evening and the air was warm enough to make sweat bead beneath his collar. Still Yoriichi couldn’t help but sit out and watch as the birds returned to their nests for the night.

It had been a long day running errands here and there, preparing their home for their soon to be born baby to join them. Just the thought of holding their child made a spark of affection light up in his chest, the feeling nearly overwhelming him as he sucked air into his lungs and held it. It only made the butterflies in his stomach dance around wildly. It’s was as if every cell in his body was preparing for something lifechanging. It was the same feeling he had towards Uta and came to recognize with time.
It was love.

“Yoriichi?”

Turning to look over his shoulder Yoriichi blinked as he took in the sight.

There standing in the threshold to their home, stood his wife. The light spilling out from inside the house cast her in a light that almost seemed holy. She was breathtaking on any given day and in any light, but with the prominent bump where her stomach was, Yoriichi didn’t think she could be any more beautiful.

“Uta,” Yoriichi fully turned to his wife as she walked over to him, eyes brushing over the sky, watching the same sight he was enraptured with a few seconds before.

“Are you watching the birds again?” There was a smile in her voice and just like a siren’s call he felt compelled to respond to whatever she may ask him.

“Yes, they’ve come back home for the night.”

“It’s so nice to have them as neighbors, isn’t it? We get to wake up to their songs every day.”

She stopped next to him and gently placed a hand on his head, hand brushing through his hair. Yoriichi leaned into the touch nearly dozing off as they basked in each other’s presence.

“Dinner is ready,” Uta murmured down to him.

“Is that so?”

“Mhm, but maybe we can eat outside today,” she pulled away from him and Yoriichi drifted after her retreating figure, eyes opening in search of her. “Afterall it’s such a nice evening it’d be a shame if we let it go to waste.”

Yoriichi immediately stood up. “I’ll set everything up then you can rest a bit.”

“Oh? Aren’t you the gentleman?”

Stepping into his wife’s space, Yoriichi lifted both hands up to gently cup and tilt her face up towards his. There was already a smile on her face that he couldn’t help mirroring as he leaned in to tenderly kiss her. Her lips were soft against his and he could feel the way her hands worked their way up his arms towards his neck and further up to finally rest on his cheeks. Gently pecking her on the mouth one more time he slowly pulled away.

Yoriichi stared as her eyes fluttered open revealing all the love in her gaze to him. He couldn’t help but smile and laugh with her when she let out an adorable giggle. It was too much and he couldn’t resist pulling her into him.

“You are going to be the death of me, Uta,” he sighed into the top of her head. “How am I going to survive when you smile at me like that? You’re so beautiful it almost seems like a dream that you’re my wife.”

“You’re too sweet Yoriichi,” came the laughed-out response.

They stood there for a bit, wrapped up in each other when he felt her arms tighten around him.

“I’m so happy, you know?” Her voice was muffled in his chest and Yoriichi pressed another kiss onto the crown of her head. “I’m so happy you found me that day. I’m so happy you came to live with me. I’m so happy we fell in love.”

Taking his hand in hers, she dragged it away from her back to her front where her belly was swollen and pressed it there.

“I’m so happy we get to have a family together.”

It felt as if his heart had stopped. The feeling overflowing inside of him to the point of bursting.

“Uta?”

“Yes?”

“I love you.”

“I love you too.”

Dinner was peaceful between them. The lively chatter of his wife joining the singing of the birds around them. He was happy. Life was good. And he would be more than content if he could watch the sunset in Uta’s rosy cheeks for the rest of his life with their baby in his lap.
