Work Text:
Christmas was a naturally chaotic time of year already. That’s not to say it wasn’t a fun time of year, but the days and weeks leading up to it tended to get a bit...stressful, to say the least. Especially for a certain household consisting of (1) angry blonde Pomeranian, a purple haired zombie, and a candy cane with daddy issues.
If left up to Todoroki and Shinsou, nothing would get done until a few days before Christmas, but Bakugou, being the perfectionist he was, would not allow that to stand.
Or, better said, he tried to not let it stand. Roping his boyfriends into helping him decorate and get what they needed was sometimes like pulling teeth from a squirming 5 year old.
In other words, it was difficult, and often accompanied by groans and mutters of “You sure it can’t wait another day?”
No, no it cannot wait. Bakugou thought grumpily as they got ready to leave. The trio was going out to pick out a tree, though, in all honesty, it would probably mostly be Katsuki nitpicking until he found one he liked, while Hitoshi and Shouto agreed with anything he said, for fear of annoying him anymore than he already was.
Now, Todoroki didn’t celebrate Christmas growing up, on account of his asshole father, who had been threatened by both his boyfriends on a number of occasions. So, he honestly didn’t get all the excitement surrounding the holiday. Shinsou’s experience with it was honestly hit or miss depending on how old he was when growing up, so he could be indifferent at times.
Katsuki, on the other hand, his mother made sure they celebrated every year when he was growing up. He couldn’t have gotten out of it even if he wanted to. As a child, he didn’t mind, because hello, any kid would get excited at the thought of presents. But as he got older, he started to feel more and more annoyed by the holiday.
Ok, maybe annoyed wasn’t the right word. Maybe a better description would be he had to bear with it no matter how much he sometimes wanted to curl back under his blankets because it was too goddamn cold what the fuck--
Plus, any holiday he had to remember some extra family member's name he only saw twice a year never failed to aggravate him. Keep your grubby hands off my face and stop pinching my cheeks, Karen.
Bakugou snapped out of his thoughts when they arrived at the tree yard, and if there was a smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth, it wasn’t completely his fault. Despite the aggravation, Katsuki did enjoy doing stuff like this. Especially with the two he was tugging along by the wrists, fond smiles on their faces. And the same as every year, Shouto and Hitoshi had to remind him not to get a tree too big that it wouldn't fit through their door.
As the blonde was inspecting a medium sized tree that wasn't too big, but not too small, there was a call from Shouto, the sound of his voice pulling Katsuki's attention away from the tree. "Katsuki! Come here!"
He groaned softly, knowing that it was probably gonna be a joke of some kind, but went over anyways. They might not have looked like it, but Katsuki was surprised to learn that his boyfriends rather enjoyed messing with people. All in good fun, of course, but it was still a shock to learn.
Following where he had heard his boyfriend's voice come from, he slowly raised an eyebrow questioningly at the scene before him.
Hitoshi was perched on the top step of a ladder, a smirk on his face as he dangled a piece of mistletoe above Shouto's head.
"What the fuck are you two doing?" The blonde asked, severely unimpressed.
“Come here.” Shouto requested with a pout, making grabby hands for the blonde.
Katsuki rolled his eyes hard enough he could've probably seen his brain if he cared to, but surprisingly, he still did as Shouto requested.
"You two are so fucking lame." He groused, trying to keep the fondness out of his voice, but failing.
"You love us anyway." Hitoshi said from the top of the ladder, still smirking as he bapped Katsuki's head with the mistletoe. "Now hurry up and kiss him so I can get mine."
"What is this?! Harass Katsuki day?!" The blonde nearly screeched in indignation, but the blush on his face spoke volumes.
"You say that as if we don't harass you on a daily basis." Hitoshi reminds him in a deadpan voice.
"I'm pretty sure sex doesn't count as- OW!" Shouto started to speak, but was interrupted by his blonde boyfriend thwapping him on the head.
"We're in public!" Katsuki hissed, but the blush on his face only deepened.
Shouto managed a slight pout as he rubbed his head where he had been smacked, dual colored eyes moving back to Katsuki. "Does this mean that I don't get my kiss under the mistletoe?" He almost whined.
Katsuki sighed before he reached over, pinching Shouto's left cheek, expression almost amused. "How about this: we get a tree and get it home, and I'll give you both all the goddamn kisses you want. Deal?"
"Deal." Both Shouto and Hitoshi said immediately and in unison. Hitoshi climbed down off the ladder, following the other two back over to the trees. They finally decided on one, and then came the hard part; getting it home.
Now, you'd think it wouldn't be that hard for three grown ass men to get a tree only like half a foot taller than one of them that difficult to get home, but it reality, it took some...finesse.
What usually happened was Shouto and Katsuki ended up lugging in the tree while Hitoshi watched. And when the loud blonde asked why he wasn't helping, the purple haired hero simply said, "I'm here for motivational support."
Bakugou was not impressed.
Shouto only shook his head in disappointment, preferring not to get between them in that way.
When they finally got the damn thing inside, it was time for the best part of the whole debacle; decorating that green son of a bitch! And no, we're not talking about Deku here.
The trio had a huge box of ornaments they'd collected, all carefully wrapped by Bakugou so they didn't get broken. Decorating the tree was probably the fastest thing about decorating for the holidays, with all three of them working together.
A couple of hours later, they had finished decorating not only the tree, but the rest of their apartment as well. Shouto idly commented about how Katsuki's sometimes meticulous nature came in handy when it came to things like this.
The three of them were now curled up on the couch, but strangely, the blonde still seemed antsy. Hitoshi had placed his feet in Katsuki's lap, while Shouto leaned on the Katsuki's shoulder. The blonde kept fidgeting and drumming his fingers on Hitoshi's leg as they watched TV, and Bakugou never fidgeted. They shared a look of mild concern before Shouto spoke up, his voice soft.
"Katsuki? Is something wrong?" He asked, muting the TV.
Red eyes widened in surprise for a moment before they fell to look at the floor, lower lip worried between his teeth. "It's…" a sigh. "It's stupid. The old hag texted me while we were decorating. She wants us to come over next time all our schedules line up."
"What's wrong with that?" Shouto asked, seemingly confused. "I thought your mom liked us."
"She does. A bit too much." The blonde grumbled in response. "It makes me think she's planning something and I can't figure out what it might be."
Hitoshi and Shouto shared another look before they both started to laugh.
"Motherfu- it's not funny, you assholes!" Katsuki hissed in complaint, moving to shove the two off of him so he could stomp off and stew. But alas, he was unable to because his boyfriends latched onto him like leeches and refused to let go.
"I'm sorry." Shouto said once he had stopped laughing, the smile on his face very much not sorry. "You wanna keep us to yourself and it's honestly so adorable."
"Fuck you, I ain't adorable." Katsuki griped in a deadpan voice, still struggling to get out of their hold.
"That's a matter of opinion, and I'm pretty sure that you're out ruled on that front." Hitoshi said with a Cheshire cat smirk, violet eyes twinkling in amusement.
"I hate you both." The blonde lied.
"We love you too, Katsuki." Shouto said almost gleefully, pressing a kiss to the blonde's cheek, Hitoshi following suit and pressing one to his shoulder.
Damn saps. The blonde thought in amusement, red eyes softening. But they’re my saps, I suppose.
“If I remember our schedules correctly, we all have some days off next week. We could go over then, if that’s ok with her.” Shouto said with a hum.
“The sooner the better.” The blonde grumbled, thumb flying across his phone screen as he texted his mother, before chucking it across the room. It landed among the blankets surrounding the bottom of the Christmas tree, to be forgotten until later. He wasn’t going to let his worries about his mother ruin any more time he might have with his boyfriends. Not tonight, anyway.

The next week passed by in a blur. Before the three of them knew it, they were standing in front of the door to the Bakugou household. The younger blonde had schooled his expression into a look of almost mild annoyance; which, to be fair, was an expression he had on his face more often than not. He banged his fist against the door, and it only took a few moments for Mitsuki to answer, award winning smile on her face as she ushered them in. She idly knocked a fist against her son's head as he passed her.
"I'm glad you could make it! I'm surprised this one didn't try to make up an excuse to get out of this visit. I swear, it's like pulling teeth trying to get him to come over." She said, jabbing her son's shoulder with one pointy, manicured nail.
"Of course." Shouto said politely, Hitoshi nodding in agreement.
“These two are so nice, why do they put up with your rude ass?” Mitsuki teased her son, the same sharp smirk on her face Katsuki favored more often than not.
“Hah?! The same reason dad puts up with you, you old hag!” The younger blonde snapped back, swatting her hand away. Shouto covered his mouth to keep his laughter contained while Hitoshi bit his lip, shoulders silently shaking ever so slightly.
Mitsuki rolled her eyes at her son’s dramatics, bopping him on the head again, much to his displeasure. “You two can make yourselves comfortable in the living room.” She told Hitoshi and Shouto sweetly, dragging Katsuki into the kitchen. “We’ll be right out!” She called behind her in a sing-song voice. Katsuki was silently fuming, but didn’t fight his mother any further as she bodily pulled him into the other room like a 5 year old. The two remaining in the foyer shared a look before Hitoshi shrugged, pulling off his coat and making his way to the living room with Shouto on his heels.
There were a few suspicious thump sounds along with angry muttering from the other room, but it was only a few minutes before both blondes came to the living room, each holding two mugs, steam rising from them. “Here you go, sweetie.” Mitsuki said, handing Shouto one before sitting on the couch opposite him and Hitoshi, neatly crossing her legs as she sipped from her own mug. He gave her a soft “thank you,” surprised when he sipped from it and found the hot chocolate made just how he liked it. He liked his thick and sweet, Hitoshi liked his with white chocolate, and Katsuki liked his with that spicy chocolate he only indulged in once in a blue moon. If not for Katsuki, the other two heroes would drink it more often, but the blonde forbade it with the argument “It’s shit for your health.”
Katsuki shoved the other mug into Hitoshi’s hands with a grunt, before reluctantly plopping down beside his mother and taking a long drink from his own mug.
“Careful not to burn your mouth.” Hitoshi said in lieu of thanks, an amused grin pulling at his mouth as he took a careful sip of his own. Katsuki only lightly flipped him off, no hostility in the action. When he lowered his mug, he nudged his mother’s leg with his foot.
“Not that this isn’t particularly entertaining, but is there a particular reason you wanted us to come over, or was it just to annoy me?” He asked, expression blank besides his eyebrows pushed together. It was hard to tell if it was from confusion or annoyance.
Mitsuki sighed, giving her son an almost tired look. “Is it so hard to believe that I wanted to see how my only son and his partners were doing?”
Katsuki opened and closed his mouth a few times like a fish out of water before Shouto spoke up. “You probably know this better than even we do, but it’s hard for this numbskull to show he cares.” He said, voice almost teasing, but serious at the same time. Katsuki’s face flushed, but he made no move to argue, only glared down at his drink.
“I know.” Mitsuki replied, voice turning fond as she reached over to ruffle her son’s spiky hair. He made a displeased noise in the back of his throat, but didn’t swat her hand away like before. It was almost like the fight was draining out of him the longer they were on the topic.
“Can ask a favor of you two?” Mitsuki spoke again, turning to Shouto and Hitoshi as her hand dropped from messing with Katsuki’s hair.
“Of course.” Hitoshi said quickly, even though he, and the other two heroes, were a bit confused about what she might ask for.
“Take care of him for me. And take care of each other.” She said simply. “I know he can be hard to deal with, but I have no doubt in my mind you’ll manage. I’ve never seen him as happy as he seems to be with you two, and honestly, that’s all I’ve ever wanted for my child; for him to be happy.” She dipped her head a bit as she spoke, before looking back up with a smile. “You seem like nice young men, and I’d love the chance to get to know you both better.”
“Mom…” Katsuki’s voice was almost raw with emotion as he stared at his mother in shock. Mitsuki only laughed softly, slim fingers patting his cheek.
“Of course.” Shouto replied, a smile coming to his face as well.
“We’ll do our best.” Hitoshi added. He wasn’t outright smiling like the others, but there was an affectionate look in his violet eyes, along with the corner of his mouth turning upwards.
“That’s all I ask.” She said thankfully.

The trio spent a couple more hours at the house before getting ready to leave, the time filled with laughter, mostly at Katsuki’s expense. Mitsuki ended up showing off her angry son’s baby pictures, and there was more than one threat from him about burning the entire house down.
As they were pulling on their coats in the foyer, a mischievous smile came to Mitsuki’s face, one hand tucked behind her back. “Oh, what’s that above your head, Katsuki~?”
Dread filled Katsuki as he begrudgingly looked up to see what his mother was referring to.
Of-fucking-course. He thought snippishly when he saw it was just a sprig of mistletoe. He couldn’t see it, but the same mischievous look that was on his mother’s face came to Shouto and Hitoshi’s as well.
His boyfriends both suddenly pressed against his sides, and he only had time for a surprised grunt before each of them were pressing their lips to his cheeks. Mitsuki’s laughter echoed through the house as she quickly took a picture. Heat flared in the younger’s blonde’s face, but he couldn’t do much besides wiggle unhappily between his partners until they released him.
“I hate you all.” He grumbled unhappily as they rushed over to see the picture, Mitsuki promising to send them a copy of it.
“Love you too, babe!” Hitoshi said, teasingly blowing him a kiss.
Deciding he was tired of their antics, the younger blonde stormed outside, ignoring the way Hitoshi called after him to put his scarf on and his mother's laughter. He stopped by the gate to wait for them, and it only took a few moments for them to join him.
Shouto had a slightly unhappy expression on his face as he wrapped Katsuki's scarf around his neck, using it to pull him over and give him a quick peck on the lips.
"And you chastise us about not bundling up when it's cold." Hitoshi said with a snort of amusement as they started walking, his arm thrown over Katsuki's shoulders. Shouto was on his other side, their gloved fingers clasped together.
"Yeah, yeah." Katsuki said instead of arguing any further.
Hitoshi and Shouto shared a look over Katsuki's head that showed they were thinking the same thing.
This visit was a good idea. We should come by more often.
It's a promise.
One of many they planned to keep.
