Work Text:
Yoongi isn't a big fan of weddings. He doesn't like putting on the stuffy suits and all the socializing expected of him. He wouldn't have come to this one if he didn't have to — if Taehyung hadn't wanted it so badly.
The things Taehyung wants, Yoongi doesn't know how to say no to nor does he ever want to.
From his spot at the table, fifth glass of champagne in hand and on hour three of the reception, he watches Taehyung dance with the flower girl. He twirls her and lifts her up with a big, bright laugh. Yoongi can't help but smile and think about how Taehyung will be an amazing father one day. Yoongi himself is still terrified at the thought of being responsible for a whole other human being, but if he has Taehyung to help he thinks one day the fear won't matter as much.
The song ends and the deejay makes a few announcements. Taehyung bows to the flower girl and hugs her before she goes running off to her mom. The lights dim so that only the fairy lights winding through the canopy of the dance floor are on. It's so romantic Yoongi's teeth hurt.
Taehyung turns and his eyes find Yoongi's. Yoongi's stomach does these flips watching Taehyung approach him with his jacket is already open and his tie loose, but still intact. Yoongi won't say it outloud, but Taehyung is drop dead gorgeous right now and he wants to pinch himself that this is all real, that Taehyung is looking only at him, even after being together for five years.
Taehyung doesn't ask Yoongi if he wants to dance, just takes his hands and pulls Yoongi up out of his chair, walking backward with him. He's already swaying to the music, tugging Yoongi's arms back and forth while Yoongi all but drags his feet across the floor.
Once they're in the middle of the room, Taehyung twirls Yoongi in a circle the same way he did the flower girl and Yoongi hears a few of their friends laugh.
"Don't do that," says Yoongi, shoving at Taehyung's shoulder when he tries to get Yoongi to spin again. Taehyung laughs and pulls Yoongi close, not sorry at all, and Yoongi twists out of his hold. "We're not dancing anymore."
"We have to!" Taehyung smile is like a beacon, a lighthouse on the horizon of a pitch black sea calling Yoongi home. There were many years where Yoongi was stuck in a cycle of low points, where work was torture and his personal relationships all suffered. Taehyung pulled him out of that and even though to this day Taehyung refuses to accept credit, always telling Yoongi that he did it himself, Yoongi knows the truth. Yes, he fought for himself, for a future he wanted, but every version of that future had Taehyung shining prominently in the center.
"We don't 'have' to do anything," Yoongi says, even though he lets Taehyung take his hand and to hold him low around the waist.
"We sort of do," says Taehyung as the music starts. His straightens his posture and brings Yoongi in closer just a little bit, but Yoongi suddenly feels like Taehyung is too close. Yoongi could never win those eye contact games, not like Taehyung who could discard his personal bubble like shedding a coat. Taehyung stares at Yoongi now, their faces close enough that Yoongi can feel his soft breaths against his cheek. His gaze is gentle, adoring, and Yoongi almost would rather this be a game.
"There's no law," says Yoongi, pouting.
Taehyung rests his forehead against Yoongi's. "Hyung, it's literally our wedding," he says, amused. "You knew we'd have to dance. You agreed to it. In writing."
Unfortunately, true. It was a joke, of course, but Taehyung did present Yoongi with a napkin contract during brunch with their friends when Yoongi had complained about how he hated being the center of attention and he couldn't dance anyway. The terms and conditions were that Yoongi would promise to dance at least once with Taehyung and would be left alone otherwise. Taehyung had stuck Yoongi's signature onto the fridge.
"You said we didn't have to do a first dance."
Taehyung hums. "And we didn't. Everyone else has been dancing this whole night."
"They stopped though." Yoongi can't say he's surprised that even though it wasn't asked and everyone knew there was no official Grooms' Dance, all their guests cleared off anyway when they saw Taehyung bring Yoongi onto the floor.
Taehyung raises his eyebrows in lieu of a shrug and leads Yoongi across the dance floor. He does it so easily that Yoongi doesn't even feel self-conscious about being the center of attention and his feet follow the simple waltz steps Taehyung taught him the last few weeks. There isn't a chance to worry about if he's doing it right or what everyone else is thinking when Taehyung is looking at Yoongi like he's the only person there.
That's how it's always been with Taehyung, Yoongi thinks.
When the song ends, Taehyung brings his hands up to Yoongi's face. His eyes are shining and he looks so happy that it almost breaks Yoongi's heart. But he is waiting, asking to show Yoongi that happiness with the physical affection he knows Yoongi doesn't always like when they're in public. That even now, on a day like today, Taehyung still waits is what makes Yoongi leap the way he's seen Taehyung do for him so many times.
He grabs Taehyung by the collar and kisses him with the kind of vigor found on the cover of a bodice ripper. The whistling and whoops in the background he welcomes with open arms for once, feeding off the energy to be the one who sweeps Taehyung off his feet.
Taehyung's eyes widen, but he recovers quickly enough and kisses Yoongi back with the biggest grin on his face. It makes the actual kissing part difficult, but neither of them care. Then, suddenly, the air shifts and Yoongi finds himself staring at the ceiling when Taehyung dips him and kisses him again.
It's not really comfortable and Yoongi has to use way too much of his core strength so Taehyung isn't supporting all his weight, but the happiness radiating off of Taehyung is blinding. When they part, Taehyung presses one more gentle, lingering kiss to Yoongi's forehead and that feels the most intimate of all.
Taehyung swings them up and leads Yoongi to take a bow, effortlessly taking on more of the attention by making his bow grandiose and almost comedic. Yoongi managed to keep his emotions in check for the entire ceremony and the speeches during dinner, but he slips his arms around Taehyung from behind so he can hide his face as they shuffle back to their table, eyes welling up because he found someone as good as Taehyung who is so good to him.
Taehyung drops Yoongi into a chair and slides his half-full champagne glass over as he crouches down in front of him. The dance floor slowly fills with people again, the deejay playing some crowd favorites.
"Hey," says Taehyung, holding Yoongi's hands. "I promised our moms I'd dance with them one more time before we leave. Give me fifteen minutes and we can escape, okay?"
Yoongi knows his eyes are still red so he stares at the floor and nods.
"Hyung." Taehyung tips Yoongi's chin up. "I love you."
Yoongi nods again because he doesn't trust himself to speak.
"Why aren't you saying it back?" says Taehyung, even though Yoongi knows he knows why. "I'm not going to leave until you say it back. I love you."
"I love you, too," Yoongi says, barely audible above the music blaring, but Taehyung smiles the smile he only allows Yoongi to see and Yoongi knows he heard it the same as if Yoongi had shouted across the room.
Taehyung shrugs his jacket off and heads over to the next table to ask Yoongi's mom for a dance. Yoongi watches them disappear into the crowd until all he can see Taehyung's head sticking above everyone else's and the way he charms Yoongi's mother while they dance with his bright, easy smile.
Like a guiding star leading Yoongi home no matter where he is.
