Saving the world wasn't all nice and feeling good, as everybody made it out to be.
Saving the world was heartbreaks, of not knowing what could happen next, of what dangers lay ahead. It was knowing that there was a way out, but it wouldn't guarantee safety of all. Hell, it didn't guarantee anything, not even the well-being of the one, you were trying to go through with this madness for in the first place.
Saving the world, was lying, was looking in the face of your beloved, and smiling at him with fondness, but knowing deep inside that it would be the end of the world as you know it, it would be the end of ...his world.
But saving the world, was also facing your fears, and knowing that it was only you who could do the impossible, knowing that if not for you, the world as everybody knows it would end in the blink of an eye.
Saving the world was bloody, and needed sacrifices, of the heart and the body.
It called for patience, testing your boundaries and knowing that you only had to keep giving and hope that everything worked in the end. It was knowing that the ultimate play of game would be the ending of it all...knowing the hell it would awaken once everybody knew the truth.
Saving the world was looking into his eyes and knowing you were going to die. It was witnessing the slow crumble of his smile, the disbelief and betrayal in the look he gave you, and knowing you were helpless to stop it.
Saving the world meant enduring the slow burning in his veins, the body trying to adjust to the change in temperature and failing, and still going ahead with the deal...agreeing to let the devil take over your body, and hope to not succumb to the hunger.
"No!" He heard the shout, but he was too gone, to respond to it.
"No! Jungkook! Stop!"
"Oh God! Please! Stop!"
"Too late." Was what Jungkook wanted to say, but he was already slipping. The darkness hovered around the edges of his conscience, waiting for him to give in.
But he still held on, just a little longer, just to hear his voice one last time.
"Please! Make it stop!" He was crying and Jungkook's heart trembled at the pain in his voice. "Stop hurting him!"
"I'm sorry. This is the only way." Someone whispered, and a name came up in his mind. Was that Jimin? Jungkook wondered.
But there was no way to confirm it. His eyes were heavy, and impossible to open.
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN?! IT WAS THE ONLY WAY!" He was screaming, now. "I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO! MAKE IT STOP!"
"OH PLEASE! MAKE IT-"
"Taehyung! Calm down!" The level of anxiety in Jimin's voice rose, and a part of Jungkook struggled to stay awake.
What was happening? Why was Jimin panicking?
"Tae! Stop!" Jimin shouted.
Another minute and a whimper followed the shouting. "Please! Tell me what to do!" Taehyung was begging, and Jungkook was seconds from losing it all.
"You can't do anything, except wait for him to return." Jimin said in a quiet voice.
"But-"
"Do you not trust him, Tae?"
"Of course!" Taehyung answered.
"Then trust Jungkook this one time. Trust that he will return back to us."
"O-Okay."
Sounds of sniffles and soft sobs filled the air around him, and Jungkook let go. He slipped into the dark, knowing that Taehyung had faith in him. It was all that he needed.
Jungkook didn't know, for how long he was unconscious. He didn't know how long he slept.
Time had no meaning in the place where he was trapped. The only thing that kept him going was the last words he had heard from Taehyung. He trusted Jungkook to make it back, to him, and so he fought.
Jungkook fought long and hard, never giving in, never backing out. And finally...
Finally...
"Ngh..." Jungkook opened his eyes, slowly, squinting at the bright light filling the space in front of him.
There was a gasp and suddenly a face filled his line of sight. It was the face that had kept him alive, even in the darkest depths of hell. It was the face that was now smiling so brightly, Jungkook had a hard time looking into his eyes.
"You're back." He whispered and Jungkook returned the sunny smile, with one of his own.
"Yes, I'm back Tae."
A tear slid down his cheek and his lips trembled. "I thought..."
"Shh...don't cry. I thought you believed in me. You knew I had come back for you right?" Jungkook patted on the head now buried in his neck, shoulders shaking with muffled sobs.
"Yes. I knew it, but I was scared...so scared."
"Well, now I'm back, Tae. You need not cry anymore." Jungkook said, reassuring him.
Taehyung gave a short nod and sighed, before breaking into a beautiful smile. "Welcome back, love."
The words warmed his heart, and Jungkook grinned at him.
"I'm back, love."
