Work Text:

It’s for the children, Lan Wangji repeated to himself, too many times than he cared to admit. Still, he didn’t understand why he had to go through with this specifically. But Lan Xichen thought it was a good idea, and their manager was ecstatic with the whole prospect of Lan Wangji dating someone, albeit temporarily.

Win a date with Lan Wangji!, the poster in front of his dressing room screamed, the bright and bold font too much for his eyes. This campaign had been live for a month, with all of the proceeds going towards a children’s charity.

“Don’t worry, Wangji. Your fans are nice,” Lan Xichen assured him as they were being driven to the restaurant. “Of course, except that person who tried to pull a strand of your hair, and that woman who attempted to enter your apartment, and that boy–"

“Brother,” Lan Wangji interrupted him. “I understand.”

"Your date is already at the site," Luo Qingyang said, looking at Lan Wangji through the rear-view mirror. “There will be cameras at first, but the two of you will be mostly alone during the date.”

Lan Wangji nodded, affirming their manager's words. He didn’t know anything about his date, except that it was a man. Lan Wangji didn't specify to limit the contest to females– after all, it didn't really matter whether the winner was a man or a woman. There was only one outcome for this date: nothing.

°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°

“This is Wei Wuxian, the winner and your date,” the show host announced once they were in the restaurant, and Lan Wangji's heart nearly beat out of his ribcage as he was met with bright grey eyes and cheeky smile.

“You may call me Wei Ying,” the winner– Lan Wangji's date for the night greeted, lifting his arm to offer a handshake.

Lan Wangji took his hand, feeling the man’s calloused and warm palm against his. He allowed himself a squeeze, and Wei Wuxian gave him a knowing wink.

It’s weird, Lan Wangji thought, to be surrounded by cameras and yet his focus was solely on the man in front of him.

The show host asked some generic questions directed at the two, as if easing the tension between them. He must have mistaken the spark for something else, thinking it was his job to soothe the non-existing awkwardness between the actor and his one-night date. Lan Wangji was used to answering nonsense questions all the time, but Wei Wuxian kept snickering by his side.

“Now, we’ll leave you lovebirds alone,” he said, patting the two men at the back, and giving them a little wave as he left with the camera crew. "Have a good night!"

“So, Lan Zhan. Did I surprise you?” Wei Wuxian asked once the TV staff were out of earshot, sliding closer to Lan Wangji who immediately wrapped an arm around his shoulders. Wei Wuxian playfully shoved on his chest, carefully looking around for any bystanders, before hugging him.

“Mn.” This changed everything. Something good would definitely come out of this date. "You joined."

“Hahaha! Of course I joined your contest. I’m your number one fan after all,” Wei Wuxian grinned.

“I didn’t think you’d win,” Lan Wangji said, making Wei Wuxian laugh harder.

“Are you accusing me of cheating?” Wei Wuxian asked with a raised brow, a hand dramatically placed on his hip. “Because you’re wrong. I just made a few… adjustments. I don't want my boyfriend dating someone else, after all.”

Lan Wangji frowned. He should have turned this down after all. "I shouldn't have–"

"I'm just joking!" Wei Wuxian exclaimed, then pursed his lips as if he realized he didn't believe what he said. "I mean, I don't like someone else dating you of course, but the contest was for a charity. A really great charity. And I won, so," he said, looking up at Lan Wangji from under long lashes, a small inviting smile splayed against his lips. "I have the sexiest man of the year all for myself. "

Lan Wangji ignored Wei Wuxian's last remark, and tilted his head to kiss his boyfriend's smart mouth.

"Let's go somewhere else," Wei Wuxian whispered against his lips, before planting a quick peck as if he couldn't help it. "But first, let's do something about your appearance."

°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°

Wei Wuxian cackled as he reached out to tuck Lan Wangji's hair neatly inside the beanie. "Your disguise isn't even a disguise," he said, hands sliding down to slightly pinch Lan Wangji's ears, before playing with the earpieces of his fake glasses. "You still look so handsome."

Lan Wangji brushed a thumb against Wei Wuxian's flushed cheek, feeling an overwhelming urge to pinch his pink nose. Or kiss it. Either way, Lan Wangji did both.

"Wei Ying is even more handsome," he said in return. He was thankful for the snowy weather tonight.

Wei Wuxian's cheeks were a shade darker than before as he giggled, rubbing his nose as he intertwined their hands. "Stop it. C'mon, let's play."

Lan Wangji was dragged into an arcade where Wei Wuxian exchanged a decent amount of coins for tokens. He remembered reluctantly going here with the same person a few years ago, the memories flooding his heart with warmth.

"It's my treat this time, seriously!" Wei Wuxian promised, shaking his pocket and making the tokens jiggle inside. "See? I'm gonna win tons of prizes for you!"

Lan Wangji ended up with two bunny plushies and random trinkets that he had planned to display on his desk. Wei Wuxian looked proudly at his haul, and basked in his boyfriend's praise.

They tried a few more games, and posed at the photo booth for remembrance. Once they were out of tokens, Wei Wuxian pushed him outside, and tugged him towards the night market and food stalls. Wei Wuxian took his time checking out every spicy dish that he could find, while feeding Lan Wangji with milder ones.

Lan Wangji was too absorbed in admiring Wei Wuxian, and thus was a little slow on the uptake with what his boyfriend was doing. They were going to places that no one would think Lan Wangji would go to, thus evading most of the paparazzi who were always hot on his trail.

To no one's surprise, being in public wasn't enough to keep their hands off each other, especially when Wei Wuxian would pull him inside a inconspicuous alleyway so they could kiss.

Lan Wangji tucked him into a corner, and met Wei Wuxian's lips halfway. They seek each other desperately, opening their mouths in an instant, welcoming the hot slide of their tongues together. Wei Wuxian moaned, and Lan Wangji pressed closer, now cursing the cold weather for the numerous layers of clothes that's stopping him from feeling up his boyfriend.

This happened three times, one more heated than the last, until they had to stay a few moments longer to calm themselves down.

Wei Wuxian pressed a finger lightly on Lan Wangji's jaw, where there was no doubt a mark was placed. Lan Wangji had unzipped Wei Wuxian's jacket in the meantime, his hands rubbing soothing circles on bare hips. They were leaning on each other heavily, and Lan Wangji tried to distract himself from the growing problem in his pants.

"What would your fans think when they find out you're dating someone like me?" Wei Wuxian suddenly asked, as Lan Wangji leaned down and sucked intently on the skin just above his collarbone. He groaned, hands gripping tightly on Lan Wangji's shoulders, before nibbling on the tip of his earlobe for relief.

"They'll get envious of me," Lan Wangji answered.

"Right– what? Of you?" Wei Wuxian pulled back in surprise.

He nodded, stepping forward to close their proximity once more. "They can't have Wei Ying."

Wei Wuxian looked at him, dumbfounded, before he released a sound close to a snort before bursting out in laughter. "Lan Zhan, please! How can you say those things so easily? I don't really think my heart can take it," he said, wrapping his arms back again around Lan Wangji's neck and kissing his cheeks. Suddenly, he stopped, and looked to his left. "There's someone taking photos."

"Let them be," Lan Wangji said, which made Wei Wuxian's lips curl down.

"Let them? If this gets out to the public then your reputation–"

"They should focus on my work and not my personal life," Lan Wangji explained. They've kept their relationship under wraps for a long time now, but they were not doing anything unlawful or bad, so why would he have to hide that he has Wei Wuxian?

Lan Wangji looked at his boyfriend who was still looking a little apprehensive. He felt his heart sank. "Unless you don't want to?"

"No! I want to," Wei Wuxian quickly said, eyes determined and assuring, and Lan Wangji knew he was telling the truth. "I badly want to announce to the whole world that you're my boyfriend. I want to gloat to my coworkers about how hot you are. They're starting to think you're not real since I'm not showing any photos of you."

Lan Wangji smiled against Wei Wuxian's lips as they kissed once more, unhurried and sweet, until Wei Wuxian pulled back a mere inch away. "Well, let's give them a good show."

°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°

They went back to the restaurant just in time for Lan Wangji's manager to pick him up. And finding himself getting bolder, Lan Wangji leaned over their table to kiss Wei Wuxian.

Or at least, he tried to. Wei Wuxian had pressed his index finger on Lan Wangji's lips, a sly smile on his pretty mouth. “Don’t you think a kiss is for the second date?” he asked, and Lan Wangji raised a brow. He stared at Wei Wuxian's lips that were red and swollen, a clear indication of what activities they had been busy with. Wei Wuxian darted his tongue, licking his lower lip, as if provoking Lan Wangji to do something. “Unless you want an extension?”

They were snapped out of their exchange when Luo Qingyang cleared her throat. She seemed to have been standing beside their table for a while now. “Excuse me, the date ends–"

“Tomorrow morning,” Lan Wangji said, finishing the sentence for his manager.

“It is?” she repeated, before blinking as realization dawned on her. “Oh. It is,” she gave them a wide smile. "I hope you two have a nice time. Good night."

When Luo Qingyang left, Lan Wangji didn't give Wei Wuxian time to stop him, swallowing Wei Wuxian's giggles between his lips.
