"Quick! After them!"
"Don't ever lose them! Otherwise, it will be your lives to replace them"
"Sir!" The Wen disciples responded and went after their prey.
Just a few miles after them, two figures were running away from them in a huge forest as fast as they could. You could imagine them panting heavily with their stamina falling. Both of them just want to drop to the ground and rest.
However, one of them started to fall as she tripped over a root. She grasped her ankle in agony while the other figure stands in front of her.
"Can you stand?" A teenager looks at her worriedly as he looks around frantically to make sure that the enemies have not caught up with them.
She shook her head with a solemn look on her face. As if reading her mind, the guy responded.
"Nope! You better come with me! I will carry you"
"I will slow you down! Don't worry, I will be fine! Go and find reinforcement while I will be a scapegoat"
The guy looks at her angrily, gritting his teeth as he tries to calm himself down. As he knew that shouting would make the situation worse. He was about to respond when the girl cut him off.
"Their target is you, Wei Wuxian! I will rather be a scapegoat than you dying in their hands!" The girl said firmly, trying to stand up but couldn't because of the pain of her ankle.
Before she could reach the ground, she could feel arms wrapping around her. She started to blush since she wasn't used to opposite-sex close proximity. She was about to push him away when she heard his whisper, "I am not letting another loved one die because of me! You understand"
Her eyes softened as she remembers the massacre of Yunmeng-Jiang Sect. She nuzzles his neck and wrapped her arms around his neck. She whispers back, "I'm sorry. I thought your existence is more important than my own"
Both of them let go of each other and stare into each other's eyes. She nodded at him and said, "Let's go, shall we?"
He nodded back and went ahead of her first.
Suddenly, Dawn felt something that she is not familiar with. She looks up and saw an archer on the tree, pointing an arrow towards him. Dawn use all of her adrenaline she had and cover his back.
Wei Wuxian looks behind him and saw Dawn covering his back. He was about to ask what she is doing until his eyes widened in horror.
Dawn then smile at him, trying to assure him that it was not his fault. Her surroundings began to darken as she gave in to the pain. Before her eyes are fully closed, she then heard Wei Wuxian's voice shout as he roars in agony.
"Dawn!!!"
