You, me, us

Summary:

Katsuki wonders, since when did things change? Since when did he get used to Izuku's mumbling and his laughter? Since when did he grow fond of the nerd's freckles and his clumsiness and everything that spells 'Izuku'? And before he could even notice...
Here he is. Here they are.

Chapter 1: Lost time

Chapter Text

He. Can't. Sleep.

Katsuki tosses and turns. His dorm room feels so freaking cold tonight, despite the nature of his quirk, despite the fact that he and Izuku have destroyed Ground Beta just two hours ago. He still can feel the impact of Izuku's attacks, the numbing sensation on his palms,...

The weight of their conversation.

All Might.

One For All.

All For One.

Quirk transfer.

You're so amazing, it's blinding.

Stop.

That's why I keep chasing after you.

Shut up.

To me, you're the incarnation of victory.

Just stop. Fucking. Stop.

Knock knock.

What the... Katsuki squints at the digital clock on his bedside table. Those brigh red numbers are mocking him.

Fuck it. He kicks off the blanket and gets out of the bed. God blesses the brave soul who decided that knocking at his door at 01:13am is an excellent idea. He'll give them a piece of his mind.

He throws open the wooden board and takes a deep breath an-

"Deku?!"

"Hi Kacchan..." The smaller teen seems to be completely undisturbed by his outburst.

"The fuck you doing here?" He whispered shouts.

"I don't think that I want to be alone after all that happened so..."

Katsuki takes in his appearance. Messy green hair which is even wilder than usually, rumpled fresh clothes, bandaged freckled cheeks, tired emerald eyes and dark bags,...

He understands what Izuku means, of course. After all, he's the only one who knows the boy's biggest secret, and after what happened...

He doesn't want to admit that he feels the same.

Sigh.

"Whatever." The blond mutters, walking back into his room.

"Huh?"

"Don't make me repeat myself, shitty nerd."

"R-right! Sorry. Thanks." Izuku squeaks and follows him, closing the door in the process. Katsuki just grumbles, flops on the bed, feet touching the floor.

Silence hangs over them until he feels the mattress slightly dipped to his left, and Izuku slowly, hesitantly lies himself down beside him. The ash blond lets him.

More silence.

"You know..." Izuku's voice is so soft, yet somehow so loud and clear in the dead of night. "This is the first time I've been in your room ever since we were seven."

"Yeah?"

"Uh-huh." Green orbs dart around curiously. "It's different now, though. I remember that you used to have an All Might blanket and all those figurines lining up on your desk and posters on the walls."

"Shut up. Bet you still wear that old man merch to go to sleep like the shitty nerd you are." Katsuki's smirk only grows wider as the smaller boy pouts.

"Kacchan is mean!"
"But I was damn right." Izuku snorts, staring at the ceiling for a few minutes.

"You come to Dagobah beach often?"

"Nah. Too much garbage. Last time I'd been there was few months ago. Spotless, though." He still doesn't understand whoever was/were crazy enough to get rid of that mountain of trash. Some kind of a madman they were.

"Ah, that was my training." At this, Katsuki turns his head so fast his neck almost snapped.

"No shit!?"

"None."

"All by yourself?" A nod.

"Damn, he didn't kid when he said you had to be strong enough to inherit his power."

"You know I was a stick, and he thought that would be the best way. After all, I only had 10 months."

"He said you had to receive his DNA. How on earth, exactly, did that happen?"

"...He made me swallow a hair of his..."

"..."

"..."

"That, was fucking disgusting on so many levels, you know."

"I still can feel it down my throat." Izuku deadpans with an absolute emotionless face. Katsuki then, too, stares at the ceiling, lips slightly curls up, and mumbles.

"We have a fucking lot of things to catch up, huh?"

"...Yeah."

They talk, about everything and nothing at all, until exhaustion lulls them to sleep, as if all those years of separation have never been there. It's still awkward, of course, but it's a start. After all, things will be different from now on, Katsuki said so himself.

He wakes up in the morning, well rested, only to find the nerd sleeping next to him, face calm and relaxed, right leg drapes across his lap. Taking a glance at his clock, he realizes that he still has one more hour of peace and quiet before they'll have to get up and clean the dorm and he will have to deal with Deku's mumbling and nerdiness all day.

That's why he lets the nerd continue to sleep, he tells himself.
