Summary
Kakashi and Iruka are mates... sort of.
Well, they are, but Kakashi's initial rejection of the mating bond years before their adulthood has (understandably) caused some tension between them. That is to say, Iruka hates Kakashi just as much as the universe wants them to fall in love, but they've both learned to cope well enough to get by.
Even so, when Iruka is attacked in the field and goes into heat, all that changes. He and Kakashi are faced with a choice-- have sex, or let Iruka die from hestsickness.
And if they learn to fall together instead of apart, well, that'd just be fate for you.
