Mutually Beneficial

Summary:

Min Yoongi is a vampire in need of a roommate who will let him drink their blood. What he gets is not exactly what he was expecting...or hoping for, but somehow it ends up being much better.

Notes:

Hi so this is based on a prompt I saw on Tumblr (I think it was Tumblr). I'll see if I can track down the post to give credit bc you know that's how we do. But in the meantime I wanted to start posting while I have time and before I chicken out.

Hopefully it isn't too confusing, I tried to make it as simple as possible with like setting the scene and stuff, and I'll explain more as I go so yeah, enjoy.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Yoongi flopped down on the couch and opened his laptop. Jungkook was sitting on the other end of the couch.
“Someone responded to my ad on Craigslist.” Jungkook turned his head from the screen where he was playing video games.
“Do they sound cool?” Yoongi furrowed his eyebrows, reading the message again.

“Hi Mr. Mint, I am interested in the room you have listed. I will be a good roommate and clean and I am very quiet, please respond as soon as possible also I have two months rentin advance, please let me know okay thank you.”

He scowled at the screen.
“It might be a prank.” Yoongi said, turning his computer screen to show Jungkook who had paused his game to look.
“Or maybe he is just really bad at spelling.”
“He?”
“You think a girl 1) wants to be your roommate, 2) wrote that awful message and 3) wouldn’t be afraid of some random vampire drinking her blood?”
“Good points, I was hoping for a guy anyway. Maybe a mute guy, who doesn’t do things.”
“You’re getting dangerously close to asking for a vegetable.”
“I just want whoever it is to not bother me.”
“Well your current situation is hardly sustainable, so I say you respond and give him a shot. You do have a pretty great offer, that price for the apartment you have is a steal, and it’s not like they’ll miss the blood much, they always make more of it.”
“He called me Mr. Mint!”
“That’s not the worst way your name has been botched, Yunki Min.”
“Ugh, fine.”
Yoongi sat down on the couch and typed out a response.

“Hello,

Let’s give this a shot, a one-month trial and then at the end we can evaluate if it is mutually beneficial. Please send me the money and we can meet sometime this week if that works for you. The address is…

Min Yoongi”

“I hope that fool sees my signature.” He muttered grouchily shutting his laptop. Then he stood up.
“Well I better go now, I should make sure it’s clean in case he actually goes through with it.”
“Bye Hyung, see you tomorrow.” Yoongi nodded in his direction in parting and left.

He really did need a roommate, and soon. He couldn’t afford to keep buying blood from Hoseok’s contact, it was expensive and he doubted it was obtained safely. Being a vampire wasn’t illegal, but stealing blood was, and feeding on someone without their consent was a serious crime. He had to get someone soon, so he hoped that this person from Craigslist ended up working out. He had written the part about him being allowed to feed from his roommate in the “Roommate Requirements and Duties” section of his ad, and only a few people had shown any interest, and it became clear pretty quickly that they would not be a match.

Later that week, Yoongi stood on the sidewalk outside his apartment, tapping his foot. This guy was late. He sent a text to the number the man had sent him and heard a phone ding behind him. He turned around, but it was a girl, he kept scanning for his potential roommate. He felt a tap on his shoulder.

“Excuse me, are you Mr. Min?” It was that girl.
“Who are you?” He asked, a little grouchy already, it was only fall, but with the wind blowing, he was quickly getting cold.
“I’m the one from Craigslist? The roommate?” He did a double take.
“You’re a girl?” He sounded almost accusatory.
“Is that a problem?” She looked so disappointed and a little scared.
“I mean, I guess not, we’ll see, let’s go see the apartment.” She followed him upstairs and into the apartment. As they walked he looked back at her. How old was she? Why was she okay with getting an apartment with a man she had never met? He wasn’t one to pry, so he didn’t dwell on the reasons too much. He opened the door and she walked in behind him.
“So this is the living room,” he moved towards the kitchen through the winding hallway.
“The layout is a little weird, but you get used to it. This is the kitchen, through there is the laundry room, and the…sunroom I guess, I don’t really use it much.” He led the silent girl back partway down the hallway.
“This is my studio, it’s off-limits.” He said, pointing at the closed door. He turned around to point to the door across from it.
“This would be your room. It has a skylight that bothers me so even though it’s bigger, I don’t want it.” She looked into the empty room, wide-eyed. “The bathroom is through there, too.” She walked over and looked inside, the bathroom was nice, it had a bathtub, even. She turned and walked back to join him. He moved to the next door.
“This is my bathroom, you have your own so don’t use mine.” He led her back to the living room, having shown her the whole apartment. Time to get to the hard part.
“You’re pretty tiny, will you be able to fulfill the ‘roommate requirements and duties’ section of the contract?” He asked, staring her down.
“I-uh, the, the, oh yeah, I yeah, totally.” She said, her face reddening.
“Did you read it?” He asked, all hope of having found a roommate gone.
“Well, I skimmed it, but I am willing to do anything, so it shouldn’t be a problem.” She stuttered. He sighed, running his hand over his face.
“Don’t say things you don’t mean.” Great, now he was going to be starting from square one, no leads, no prospects.
“Why, what does it say?” She asked, an edge of challenge to her voice. Perfect time to drop the bomb and watch her run screaming.
“You have to let me suck your blood.” She paused, eyes wide.
“I’m a vampire.” She pursed her lips. He turned to lead her out of the apartment, but stopped dead when he heard her speak.
“That’s fine.”
“What?”
“I said it’s fine, you can suck my blood if I get to live here.”
