Growth Spurt

Summary:

“S-So Yui, what’s all the fuss about?” she asked, slightly unnerved by the intense look her cousin had on her normally neutral face. Yui Kodai has been quiet and reserved for all the years she has known her, so everything about this situation is horribly out of place.

“I want you to help me go on a date with Midoriya.” Yui stated, her hands fidgeting slightly at her sides.

Notes:

Oh yeah, guess who’s back so soon. I was haunted by the fact that IzuYui had so little content that wasn’t smut, so here I am, creating a pure ship fic that is meant to be as fluffy and wholesome as possible. Enjoy what is the result of me going wild with my romantic side.

Chapter 1: Confrontation

Chapter Text

Ochako considered herself to be an approachable person. By no means was she a social butterfly like Mina, or a self-proclaimed ‘Meme Lord’ like Kaminari, but she was quite surprised when her distant cousin pops up out of nowhere to drag her off from her group of friends in the cafeteria with a, “She’ll be back in a moment,” said under her breath.

Ochako decided to wait for an explanation until they were out of direct earshot of other students, which happened to land them in the closest girl’s bathroom. She watched with curiosity as her abductor swiftly cleared all the stalls and lodged the door closed with the trash can before coming to be right in front of her.

“S-So Yui, what’s all the fuss about?” she asked, slightly unnerved by the intense look her cousin had on her normally neutral face. Yui Kodai has been quiet and reserved for all the years she has known her, so everything about this situation is horribly out of place.

“I want you to help me go on a date with Midoriya.” She stated, her hands fidgeting slightly at her sides, which is the only portrayal of nervousness visible from her whole body.

Ochako choked on her spit for a second, before collecting herself with a forced, “You want me to help you and Deku get together?”

Yui nodded curtly, shuffling a bit before responding, “Yes, I’ve had a crush on him since the Sports Festival, and since you are dating Asui, as well as being my family, I figured you would be the person to go to for advice.”

Ochako just nodded, absorbing all the information before she completely settled with her answer. “Absolutely… but on one condition.”

“Yes?”

“You make sure to treat my best friend right, yeah?” She said, giving Yui a bright smile as she pulled the other girl into a hug, leaning in nice and close to her ear, “Because I don’t care about family bonds when it comes to you hurting him, as I'll gladly throw you into the sun.”

Yui contemplated Ochako’s words for a moment before giving a small smile of her own, saying “Okay,” before going to the door and unblocking it so they could leave.

“Wait, where are you goin’?” Ochako asked.

“We can talk later,” Yui replied turning to face her cousin, “If I keep you any longer, someone may grow suspicious.”

“I mean… okay, let’s go,” Ochako agreed, deciding to just go along with Yui on this one. She clearly didn’t realize just how numb-skulled Deku could get when it came to anything that wasn’t remotely related to heroes.

The two went their separate ways, with Ochako explaining to Tsu, Iida, Todoroki, and Deku when she returned to their table that her cousin Yui needed a bit of private help since they were family, which satisfied all of their curiosity. As the bell rang and they returned to class, she felt her phone vibrate, which was a text from Yui.

Yui: Can we meet after school by the sports field outside the heroics building?

Ocha: Sure thing! I’ll get there as soon as possible.

Yui: Thanks again.

Ocha: No problem!

Keeping true to her word, Ochako hurried out to the meeting spot after giving a quick heads up to Tsu so her girlfriend knows where she is disappearing to. She walked at a brisk pace, and upon walking around the outside of the building, she saw the familiar head of obsidian hair. She walked up and sat on the bench by the baseball field, which was thankfully in the sun to help stave off the early winter chill.

“So, first I just have to ask how my favorite quiet cousin came to have a crush on one Izuku Midoriya?” she questioned, her eyes sparkling slightly at the budding romance. To be honest, Mina was rubbing off on her and the other girls more than she would like to admit.

“Well, I know from Kendou that Izuku is quite intelligent, but I also saw how strong he was, both physically and mentally at the sports festival,” she began, the barest hints of a blush visible on her flawless skin, “While then, I simply thought he was an interesting person, it only developed the more I saw him. Between him saving that young boy at the summer camp, I heard a few rumors about him and some others heading to rescue your classmate from the League on their own and the fact that he had fought tooth and nail to save that little girl from the Yakuza in that raid on the news a couple weeks back.”

Ochako just listened, both in awe at her explanation and worry at how she knew so much even though she wasn’t present or fully authorized to know all the things she did. Wasn’t Eri being a main part of that operation supposed to be classified?

“However,” Yui interjected, turning her gaze toward’s Ochako, “Nothing solidified my feelings for him more than everything he does when he isn’t in the public’s eye or working as a hero. The way he still stammers when he gets surprised, and how he goes out of his way to help people in the hall, no matter which class they are from. He’s likely one of the purest people I have ever met, and I have Shiozaki in my class.”

“Whoa there,” Ochako cut in, meeting her cousin’s gaze, “Have you been following him around?”

“Admittedly, I have,” she sighed, looking back towards the field in front of them, “But that was because I was looking for a chance to ask him out. It doesn’t help that at least one of your classmates is almost always with him, and when they aren’t, he is around groups of other people. I’d rather not talk to him with others close by, in case he gets embarrassed.”

Ochako hummed in response, putting together everything she had so far. Compiling it together, a lightbulb in her head flickered on, a sly grin on her face as her surefire path to their love solidified itself in her mind. “Okay Yui, listen closely because I have just the plan to get the two of you on a date!”

Izuku was having quite an interesting week so far. He had been having this weird feeling that he was being watched for a while now, but chalked it up to his paranoia, or maybe that Nezu was keeping an eye on him with the vast school security system. However, this theory was proved wrong when he began catching glimpses of his follower at the corners of his vision.

The flutter of a skirt here… the stray billowing of onyx black hair there. No matter how fast Izuku looked, the girl in question was faster. Today, he was a man on a mission. He decided that confronting whoever this was is the best option for various reasons.

One, he won’t stay paranoid that the League of Villains or something is following him around the school. Two, whoever this girl is may need help but is too shy to ask. Three, his curiosity was killing him to find out who it was.

The moment he had finished eating lunch that day, he slowly moved to put his dirty dish and silverware away as he scanned the room. Izuku started to lose hope, but right as he set the items in the bin, he saw her. They locked eyes momentarily before she disappeared in a blur around the corner… which led straight to the hero class building. Izuku walked quickly through the room and turned the corner to find she wasn’t there.

“You know what, screw it.”

Activating full cowl at five percent, he sprinted down the hall at a blinding speed. He maneuvered through the corridors, startling a few scattered students who were eating or talking in the hallways. He spent almost ten minutes looking for the girl, dashing about like a lunatic. Sadly, he was finally caught by Aizawa-sensei and subsequently given a warning to stop running in the halls, which was a rather tame punishment but he wouldn’t look a gift horse in the eyebags.

Izuku looked around a bit longer but gave up when he heard the first bell signaling the end of lunch ring out. As he made his way back to the 1-A homeroom, he turned right around the corner of the building to see a sight that would forever be engraved in his mind.

Staring out the window, basking in the shimmering light of the winter afternoon, was the girl he had just thrown all caution out of the window trying to find. Spotless skin that reflected the natural light, long black hair that shimmered ever so slightly, and a beautiful, serene complexion on her face. It was Yui Kodai of class 1-B… and she just took a massive bite out of a mostly eaten tomato, finishing it off before throwing it behind her effortlessly into the trashcan. It was at that moment the two noticed each other, and both of their eyes widened as they just registered their mutual existence.

“H-Hi, Kodai-san…” Izuku began, trying to find his voice as the other girl stared him down like a statue carved by an angel, “um, it’s a bit weird to ask this but… have you been following me for the last couple weeks?”

The silence in the hallway was making Izuku sweat, his hands fidgeting slightly as he withered under the gaze of her obsidian colored eyes. He watched as she reached into her backpack resting against the wall on the floor, digging through it until she stood back up straight, hiding whatever she had retrieved behind her back.

“Midoriya, I like you. I want to go on a date with you this Saturday if that works. If not just text me and we can reschedule.” She stated, her poker-face throwing Izuku even more in a loop as his mind struggled to process it like an early 21st-century computer trying to run Windows 96.

“Here, a little gift I wanted to give you, and my phone number. I’ll text you later at some point if you don’t first.” Yui took her hand from behind her back and set a tomato with a piece of paper taped to the stem in his hand, before spinning on her heel and walking away, leaving Izuku to catch up on the entire conversation in his own head.

As he looked down into his hand, taking in the perfectly sized tomato sitting in his palm, his mind finally finished processing exactly what just transpired. He lifted the paper attached with his free hand, seeing a phone number, and a date and time for the date Kodai had just told him they were going on.

Seeing as there was no other option for how to react, he just looked out the window, his eyes searching for whatever divine being existed in the sky, and whispered, “What the fuck,” to nobody in particular.

Itsuka was having a good day so far. None of her teachers had given any tests or pop-quizzes, Monoma hadn’t picked a single fight, against all the odds, and she had managed to snag one of the chocolate cake slices Lunch Rush only makes on Thursdays. So, when Yui comes in the classroom by shrinking the door out of existence and moving in a beeline to her desk like armageddon itself, she had every right to be worried about what would happen next.

“Yui… is everything alright?” she asked hesitantly, red flags going off as she looked at the state of minor disarray her classmate was in. Her hair, which was somehow always perfectly straightened looked slightly frazzled, which combined with the light sheen of sweat visible on her forehead and the light blush dusting her cheeks created a drastic difference to her normally stoic attitude.

“Itsuka, I need your help,” she sighed, taking a deep breath as she smoothed out her hair, “I just asked Midoriya from 1-A to go on a date with me on Saturday and have no clue what the hell I am doing. I have the combined romantic knowledge of a cinderblock and crappy internet guides written nearly a century ago.”

It was at that point that Vlad-sensei entered the room, wondering where the door to the room went as the class practically exploded at the confession of their resident introvert.

Ochako sat down in her desk, wondering where Izuku rushed off to fifteen minutes before lunch ended. The class was beginning to make their way to their seats as the green-haired devil himself stumbled through the door, looking like he was on the verge of toppling over from exhaustion. And was that… a tomato?

“Deku, what’s that you got there?” she asked quietly as he walked up to her desk, which only caused him to wave a tomato with a piece of paper about before setting in front of her. Ochako only had to get a glimpse of the handwriting on the paper taped to the fruit to immediately know what was going on.

Suppressing a squeal of happiness, she took a calming breath before speaking, “Let me guess, a certain someone asked you on a date and you don’t know what to do?” she whispered, a devilish grin creeping onto her face as he nodded hazily.

“Don’t worry Deku, I’ve got you handled with all the help you could ever need,” she stated, patting his shoulder, “now all I need to know is when she said the date is, so I know how much time we have.”

This Saturday… which is two days from now.”

“Oh… welp, Yui gives us little time to work, but Kami strike me down now if I don’t somehow make this work.”

The fact that whatever divine being was watching down upon them didn’t strike her with their almighty power is all you need to know about that.
