Work Text:
How?
A simple question that was asked too many times that (Y/N) lost track.
(Y/N), on the surface, was a cold and mysterious girl. She never interacted much with her classmates at the beginning of the year, mostly keeping to herself. Though, a lot like her classmate Todoroki, after the annual UA Sports Festival the young teen started to open up bit by bit, interacting with both members from the DekuSquad and BakuSquad.
What she truly didn't understand was how they were all so nice to her. She'd given them less than a friendly impression on more than one occasion.
So just why did they look past that?
How did they look past the cold stares she'd give them with her cold, dead and lonely (e/c) eyes?
How did they still try after some of the monotone, one-word responses she gave?
How?
By the end of internships, (Y/N) had made an effort with everyone at least once, her friends consisting of students from both Deku and BakuSquads, making her part of both groups.
After another day of hanging out with friends, laughing, having a good time, she had received a text, an unpleasant reminder of one of the reasons why she had enrolled into UA.
Shigaraki: I see you've become close with those 1-A brats. Good. I'm expecting you have new information on them?
She hated it. Hated that she needed to betray the trust she's built with the others.
Not anything good, I'll have something more by Friday... (Y/N) replied, hoping to stall just a little bit before she has to spill information. There was another ding.
Shigaraki: You better
Shigaraki: If you don't, you know what'll happen...
Her family.
The League has her family.
He'll kill them if she doesn't aid in his plans.
She'd been backed into a corner, one where one wrong move will crumble everything into a million pieces.
The nest day (Y/N) was quiet, a straight face masking her true feelings. But her eyes told a different story, one of tragedy, sorrow, despair and hopelessness. The (h/c) haired girl feels lost in the sea of darkness, no light in sight.
Her classmates took notice, though every time the topic is brought up (Y/N) would flash a quick smile and steer away from the prodding questions.
With no other idea, it was Midoriya who though that just telling her that they would always be there for her no matter what and that they would listen and help any way they can was all they could do. But those words meant more than any of them knew.
They were the small tunnel of light in the black sea she floated in.
And slowly again, as the summer camp trip approached day by day, her heart started to splinter, her mind knowing full well what was about to hit them at full force.
Her emotions were running rapid.
She was cracking.
Her mask was cracking; it was only a matter of time until they saw the demon that she hid.
The demon that resides within her very conscious and the one that looms over her, pulling the strings in her life.
If her classmates, her friends found out about who she's been in contact with, who she's been relaying information to, putting them in danger time and time again,
How would they forgive her this time?
This is the demon within, the struggle of trying to protect those closest to her, yet some are just too far out of reach.
(Y/N) can't save everyone. She can try, but it's just how life is.
There will be someone she can't save; someone will get hurt.
But the question is... who exactly will fall into this growing pit of endless despair?
Her family?
Class 1-A?
Herself?
Or all of the above?
