Prompt: Midoriya and (Y/N) during apocalypse

{From Tumblr}

Work Text:

As the setting sun painted the sky a dark colour, Midoriya couldn’t help but start to worry. Well, worry more. He was already stressed with letting his lover leave their base to get more supplies for them both and their friends. What’s worse is that she went out alone because everyone else was busy.

That was a few hours ago, and with night coming, the zombies, or walkers as people dubbed them, would be more active and harder to spot.

“I should’ve gone with her…” he mumbled, his eyes never leaving the front field of UA. Someone came up beside him, looking out the window with him.

“She’ll be fine Deku. She’s strong and you know it…” Bakugou stated, crossing his arms. Midoriya spared a glance at his childhood friend, a shaky smile forming on his face.

“Y-yeah, you’re right K-Kacchan” he stuttered, a yawn escaping his lips right after. Bakugou raised a brow, letting out a deep sigh.

“Go to bed nerd, I’ll watch” the blond pushed the green haired teen to the side, standing in front of the large window, right where the other was before.

“B-but (Y/N)-!” Midoriya tried to protest though Bakugou wasn’t having it, a small growl sounding from him.

“But nothing! You’re tired, this is what these shitty shifts are for! If we see her, we’ll let her in dumbass!” he fell silent, wondering if he really should rest. The way it stands is there’s no harm in going to bed. Only thing is that he might not actually be able to sleep, his worries and fears keeping him up.

Eventually Midoriya nodded, heading to leave the classroom that was turned into a watch station. Before exiting, the freckled boy looked over his shoulder.

“You promise to tell me when she comes back, right?” Midoriya asks. Bakugou huffs, nodding.

“Yeah” he plainly says, though it’s enough for the worried boy.

Midoriya makes his way down the halls, heading to the section of the school that was made into a bedroom space for the survivors. While walking he passed some of his friends, this reminding him of how extremely lucky and thankful he was that everyone from Class 1-A has survived.

Pushing open the door, a few dozen beds laid out one right beside the other are shown, the only light coming from the window, courtesy of the setting sun. Finding the makeshift bed that was his, Midoriya crawled under the covers, bringing the blanket up to his nose, the side of his face burying further into the pillow.

There may have been other people in the room, both awake or sound asleep, but he felt utterly lost, alone, without his girlfriend safe and by his side.

Midoriya was right earlier, he couldn’t get much sleep, his entire being consumed with ‘what if’s along with worst case scenarios about (Y/N)’s well-being.

Out of all the nights spent in this room during the disaster, this night was the worst of them all.

~~~~~~~~
“Oi! We got a load of walkers here!” Bakugou called, alerting the other occupants of the base. Everyone immediately went into defense mode, setting up traps in case a few zombies get through the barriers. Speaking of barriers, the walls were reinforced at the start of this whole apocalypse, barbed wire now line the top of the walls and a new gate was made (since power isn’t an option anymore).
There was a mass amount of them though it was nothing the group hasn’t seen nor dealt with before. What they haven’t dealt with is one of their own, alive and non-zombified, pretending to be one of the dead, now trapped out with them…
“G-Guys!” Kaminari, who’s been standing by a window observing the dead, stuttered out. “Am I seeing things or is that (L/N)?” When he heard her name Midoriya sprung to life, sprinting towards the window, frantically searching around in the sea of bodies.
“Where!?” he nearly shouted, turning to look at the nervous blond. Kaminari pointed as best he could with a shaky finger towards where he spotted the young girl. Midoriya continued to look and when he found his girlfriend, he couldn’t help the mortified gasp that left his lips upon seeing the state she was in.
There were a few cuts that lined her face, more than there was when she had left. She also appeared extremely tired, like she hadn’t slept the night before.
“(Y/N)!!” The green haired boy cried, his equally green eyes shiny from un-shed tears. He was so revealed that she was alive, but that didn’t mean she was safe and out of danger just yet, he still had to get (Y/N) back inside.
A plan was already forming in Midoriya’s mind, one that will ensure his lover make it in the base’s grounds, all while keeping the walkers out.
“I got it!” the teen called, startling a few around him with the sudden exclamation, “the zombies can’t climb right!? What if we took a ladder where there’s a less number of walkers and get (Y/N)-chan to climb up and over the wall!”
“But Midoriya, what about the wire?” Todoroki pointed out from behind.
“We have gloves right? We put up the wire with them, if we use the same ones someone can hold down the wire, letting her climb over! It’s our only option!”
Those in the room were quiet before agreeing, moving into action. The longer they all wait around, the longer their friend is out roaming with the monsters.
~~~

“Come on where’s that ladder!?” Bakugou growled, growing impatient. Todoroki and Kirishima came around the corner with the wooden ladder seconds later, rushing up to the wall and standing it up, holding it tightly for whoever’s going to climb it.

“Hang on (Y/N), we’ll get you in here soon!” Uraraka shouted. Midoriya stood back in the building, watching fearfully but intently as his friends worked to save his girlfriend. The area chosen luckily only had around five or six zombies, all not roaming right by the wall. If (Y/N) can climb up the ladder fast enough before the walkers get to her, she’ll be fine.

Zombies can’t climb ladders after all…

It was Bakugou himself that was told to climb up. Reaching the top he gripped onto the top of the ladder, lifting it up and over his head. His arms were dangerously close to the wire, but he was able to keep his arms above it and just slide the ladder though his hands slowly as to not attract unwanted attention.

(Y/N) stood against the wall, keeping a low profile while being ready to grab the bottom of the ladder to bring it all the way down to the ground. She wasn’t stupid, Bakugou wouldn’t be able to get it all the way down without cutting the hell out of his arms.

When the time came, the (h/c) haired girl took one last gaze around her surroundings before wrapping her fingers around the bottom of the wooden ladder, setting it onto the ground quietly.

Bakugou gently laid the top of the ladder against the edge of the wall, leaving it there to put both hands on the wire.

“Come on nerd, get your ass up here!” The blond whispered aggressively. Said person nodded up at him, starting to climb. About half way up, with only 6 steps left till the top, the ladder shifted. Both (Y/N)’s and Bakugou’s eyes widened, the girl’s head looking down.

Shit…

There, at the bottom, was a single curious zombie, shaking the ladder slightly.

“Keep climbing idiot!” Bakugou urged, the shaking getting worse the more time passed. (Y/N) had no complaints, speeding up her ascent. Reaching the top, the female swung her foot over the pushed down wire. Just as she got her second foot onto the ledge of the wall, the ladder was knocked down, now laying flat on the dirt ground.

“Oops…” she mumbled. Bakugou groaned from behind her, a slight scowl painted on his lips.

“Nice job idiot! Oi, Shitty Hair! Get another-!” the blond didn’t even need to finish his statement, a replacement ladder already propped up and waiting for them.

“Done!” Kirishima smiled.

“Whatever…” Bakugou muttered, continuing to hold down the prickly chicken wire. It didn’t take long for both teens to climb down, the others packing up the ladder and gloves that Bakugou used.

“Let’s get you inside and cleaned up (Y/N)-chan” Uraraka said, walking with (Y/N) back inside.

“(Y/N)-CHAN!!” not even two steps within the UA building, a body came crashing into the female, arms being wrapped tightly around her frame. (Y/N) was picked up slightly, her body being twirled around in circles. When she was finally set back on the ground, albeit a little dizzy, whoever had their arms around her buried their face into her shoulder. Her friends around her have since left, going back to whatever they were doing before.

“I-I-I was s-so worried…” (Y/N) could just tell who this was, from his curly green hair to the way his arms felt wrapped securely around her torso.

“Shh, it’s ok Izuku…” she cooed, running her fingers through the boys hair. Small sobs racked through Midoriya’s being, his body and mind filled to the brim with emotions.

“Wh-when you d-didn’t come back, I-I th-thought you-” Midoriya couldn’t even finish his sentence, another sob interrupting him.

Soon his crying started to subside a little and he ended up moving his head from her shoulder to having his forehead on hers. Midoriya’s emerald green eyes stared down into his girlfriend’s shimmering (e/c) ones, a smile playing on both of their faces.

“You’re covered in zombie guts now Izuku…” (Y/N) mumbled, giggling at the end.

“That’s alright, I don’t mind as long as you’re okay…” he mumbled back, leaning in for a kiss. (Y/N) had no complaints, returning the kiss with just as much passion as her lover. Truth be told, (Y/N) was afraid, afraid that she wouldn’t have made it back.

But now she’s fine and in the arms of the one she loves.

After a minute the two pull away, a pant or two escaping past their lips.

“Let’s get you cleaned up (Y/N)-chan!” Izuku smiled. (Y/N) smiled back up at him, nodding in agreement. Both intertwined their fingers, happily making their way down the hallway, safe and sound.
