Work Text:
The first time Yoongi sees him, he thinks he falls a little.
It’s hard not to notice him.
The pink haired man is a mix of soft, delicate and sexy that has his mouth watering a little.
He’s also with another man.
Yoongi knows the rules enough and doesn’t go further than admire the man from afar.
The other man is large, loud and pretentious.
Jimin, or at least that’s what he heard from where he stands at the bar, looks uncomfortable as the taller man booms loudly, uncaring of the others around him.
He sees the way Jimin winces before nodding his head apologetically to the people around them.
He nudges Jin beside him. “Looks like it’s ‘nother one of those dates.”
Jin stops polishing his cup and squints at the direction Yoongi had been staring at. “Yeah. Poor boy was a sweetheart too. Kept apologizing for the big loaf when they came by a little earlier. Great tipper too.”
Yoongi groans inwardly.
Of course.
He had to be kind as well.
After a little while, he feels too much like a creep, he turns away and focuses back on pouring drinks.
“People like him deserve to eat shit.” Hoseok grumbles.
It’s only until Hoseok comes back, leaning against the bar, does his attention drift back to the disaster that looks too much like a Tinder date gone wrong.
“What’s wrong?” Yoongi asks, eyes flicking from Hoseok to the table.
Hoseok spins towards him, tray clattering loudly onto the bar table as he barges his way behind the bar.
“That asshole complained about the food.” Hoseok lifts his chin subtly to where Jimin and his date sat. “After he finished everything and demanded I give him a new one. The poor guy who sat with him looked like he was about to cry.”
“Seriously?” Jin asks. “I made that receipe myself.”
“I know.” Hoseok agrees readily. “Like how could it be bad?”
“What did Jim—” Yoongi quickly cuts himself off. “What’d the boy do?”
“He apologized for the loghead and tipped me when the douche wasn’t looking.”
Both Jin and Hoseok’s chatter falls to background noise as Yoongi flicks his eyes towards Jimin’s table and the poor boy really does look like he’s ready to burst into tears.
He wants to go over there and strangle the man for making Jimin feel like that.
It’s completely absurd and irrational of how protective he feels for that boy but he can’t help it.
“What do you think, hyung?”
“What?” He turns to find Hoseok and Jin both staring at him, waiting for an answer he doesn’t have.
“I said, should we do something about it?” Hoseok gestures to the table again.
He shrugs. “Probably, but what can we do?”
There’s nothing they can do unless Pinky says something about it and going by the looks on both Hoseok and Jin’s face, they know it too.
Hoseok sighs, loudly. “Yeah.”
They don’t have time to discuss it any further, Hoseok gets called out to the tables and Jin busies himself making drinks once again.
He resolutely turns his back to the table.
The next time he looks back they’re gone.
It’s absolutely absurd he feels that he’s lost a chance, to have missed out on perhaps, the love of his life.
The second time he sees him, he’s sitting alone during their down times.
Yoongi sees him chat with Hoseok for a little bit when his friend goes over to get Jimin’s orders.
Hoseok says something that makes Jimin smile a smile that lights up his entire face.
Crescent moon eyes that sparkle when Hoseok gestures to where he’s standing behind the bar.
Their eyes meet almost instantly. Just like that, Yoongi is cemented to the floor.
When Jimin’s smile widens even more, it feels as if his breath is stolen from his lungs.
He doesn’t know if he smiles back but by the time he gets his bearings, Hoseok is already bringing Jimin over to the counter.
Dumbly, he stands there watching as Jimin hops onto the barstool.
“This is Yoongi hyung.” Hoseok says just as he sets down Jimin’s cup on the counter. “He was the one who made the pork cutlet for you last time.”
Jimin’s waves shyly, cheeks still pushed up into a smile that hasn’t faded.
Yoongi just wants to lean over and pinch Jimin’s adorable puffy cheeks and hold his small hands.
“Hey.” He barely manages to keep his voice calm.
“Hello Yoongi-ssi.” Jimin greets him with a little bow. “I’m Jimin.”
He knows that.
He heard big, loud and angry practically scream it out loud.
Hoseok steps in when they both go quiet. “Jimin came back just for us, said there was something he wanted to tell us.”
“Yeah?”
“Yes.” Jimin quickly leaps onto the topic. “I’m sorry for my date last time. He behaved so rudely and I just felt so bad I wanted to come back and apologize.”
“It’s not a big deal.” He hurriedly reassures the pink haired boy in front of him. “We’ve had worse.”
“Yeah!” Hoseok agrees readily. “We had one customer who literally ran out the door when we brought him the check. Had to chase him down.”
Jimin’s giggles are even more beautiful. The sound is light and affectious, like a warm fire amidst the freezing cold.
Without realizing it, he felt his lips tug into a smile.
“Did you catch him?” Jimin asks, humor laced in his question.
“Three streets down.” Yoongi surprises himself by answering the question. “Namjoon would’ve had our heads.”
He’s rewarded with Jimin giggles again.
He sees the shit-eating grin Hoseok shoots him but he ignores it.
“You’re not seeing him anymore right?” Almost instantly, Yoongi knows what Hoseok is doing. “You could do a lot better.”
He tries to subtly grab for Hoseok but his friend dodges from his reach.
“Sorry for that,” Yoongi says, glancing at Hoseok quickly before turning his attention back to Jimin. “Usually don’t take him out without adult supervision.”
He’s curious.
Really, really curious but he can’t ask without scaring Jimin away.
“It’s okay.” Jimin nods understandingly. “I have a friend just like Hoseok hyung and he’d probably have the same thing.”
He wonders when Jimin had gotten so close to Hoseok, enough for him to be calling him hyung.
“I was just curious.” Hoseok’s indignantly squawks forces his thoughts from the topic. “You too, hyung. Don’t pretend you—”
Yoongi hurriedly muffles the rest of whatever Hoseok had been about to say with a hand. “What would you like to eat?”
Jimin doesn’t comment on the change of topic, but instead, he just glances at the menu above their heads. “If you don’t mind, the curry pork cutlet again?”
“Sure.” He writes it down on the notepad for the sake of something to do. “Want some chardonnay with that again?”
The younger boy’s eyes flicker to his. Once again, their eyes meet and Yoongi feels like he’s hypnotized.
Jimin opens his mouth before closing it again.
Hoseok coughs and Jimin looks away instantly, a hint of embarrassment coloring his cheeks.
“Would it be weird to drink wine in the middle of the day?” Jimin asks, eyes straying longingly to the rack of wine.
“Nah.” Yoongi slaps Jimin’s order into Hoseok’s hand and none-too-gently pushes him in Jin’s direction. “I’ve had a few working with people like Hoseok.”
Jimin grins and nods. “Then a glass for me.”
“Got it.”
He watches Jimin bite his bottom lip, eyes darting nervously as he sits with his hands clasped on the counter.
Before he can help it, his eyes trail down the slope of Jimin's button nose and focus on Jimin’s lips.
They are so full, sensuous and red, he wonders what it’ll feel nibbling them, having them pressed against his own.
Realizing where his thoughts were wandering to, he spins around on his heel to stop those improper images, especially about a man who may or may not be taken.
“Thank you, Yoongi-ssi.”
“Hyung,” he says to the bottle of chardonnay in his hands.
It was obvious Jimin was younger than him if he called Hoseok by hyung.
“What?” Jimin’s voice sounds nervous and Yoongi’s glad his back is turned to Jimin or else he’d see how he was panicking.
“You can call me hyung.” Straightening, he turns back towards Jimin with the alcohol in his hands. “I’m older than Hoseok so hyung is fine.”
“Oh.” Jimin cheeks pinken at that for some reason. “Ok thank you, Yoongi hyung.”
Jin comes out just in time with Namjoon at his side.
“Jiminie!” Namjoon booms out, a gentle smile on his face once his eyes settle on Jimin.
Jimin’s head snap towards Namjoon.
“Joonie hyung!”
He watches as Jimin leap towards Namjoon, the same crescent smile gracing his features as Namjoon wraps the pink haired man in his arms.
Hoseok siddles up to his side. “Looks like your pinky knows Joon.”
“You don’t say.” He grits back. “And he’s not my pinky.”
Hoseok sounds clearly amused with the situation. “At least pretend to be calm about this.”
He turns away from his friend, blocking off Hoseok’s teasing effectively.
Jimin and Namjoon detach from each other when Jin clears his throat.
Jin looks clearly unamused, arms crossed at the chest.
He wouldn’t be happy if his boyfriend was outrightly hugging another man in front of him.
“Jinnie, this is Jimin.” Namjoon gestures to Jimin, a hand still wrapped around the smaller boy’s narrow shoulders. “My brother.”
Oh.
That was the step-brother Namjoon always talked about.
Jin almost instantly loses the cool look the moment he realizes.
Looking rather embarrassed, Jin reaches out towards Jimin for a handshake. The younger boy bypasses it and instead, reaches to wrap Jin in a hug.
“I’m so glad I finally got to meet you.” Jimin says once he pulls away. “Namjoonie hyung told me so much about you, it’s like we’re best friends already.”
Jin almost coos and Yoongi has to muffle a laugh.
“I can’t believe this is the first time we’ve met.” Jin turns an accusing glare at his fiance.
Jimin smiles up at Jin. “I’ve been in L.A. for quite a bit of time.”
“His dance company is based there.“ Namjoon explains to the rest of them.
“Oh.” Hoseok perks up at the information. “So that means you have one here too?”
“Yeah, just opened a dance studio a little bit ago.” Jimin nods. “We’re hiring instructors so let me know if anyone is interested!”
“I actually teach dance.” Hoseok bounds up to Jimin, abandoning his spot from beside Yoongi. “So could I come check out the studio sometime?”
“Of course.” Jimin nods enthusiastically.
“Before you two discuss that, let me introduce Jimin to everyone first.” Namjoon interrupts.
“I actually do know them.” Jimin giggles. “I came here for a blind date mom set me up on and they all witnessed that disaster.”
Namjoon growns. “She actually went through with that?”
“Can’t have her son showing up to the wedding without a plus one.” Jimin grins cheekily. “What would the gossipy aunts say.”
Hoseok looks at him over Jimin’s shoulder and winks.
He rolls his eyes at what Hoseok was blatantly trying to tell him.
“You work too hard.” Namjoon ruffles Jimin’s hair. “I’d be worried about you too.”
“Not to the point where it’s necessary to set me up with a man who makes it his mission to be rude with everyone he meets.”
“Fine, fine. I’ll talk to mom about it.” Namjoon concedes. “Why don’t I officially introduce you to my friends?”
“Sure.” Jimin agrees easily.
“This is Yoongi hyung.” Namjoon gestures to him. “The co-owner of Butterfly.”
Jimin’s eyes widen at that. “Oh, I didn’t know you were the co-owner, Yoongi hyung.”
Namjoon shoots him a look.
“Yeah.” Yoongi shrugs, not knowing how to react with all the attention on him. “We bought the place together a few years ago. Thought it’d be nice to have something to do when we’ve both hit a blank when composing.”
“Composing?”
“I produce my own songs under the name of Agust D.”
“I knew it!” Jimin lets out a small squeal before he instantly bounds towards him. “I thought it could be you when I came last time but you’ve never really shown your face during shows or interviews so I wasn’t sure.” The smaller boy leans over the counter, their faces so close he can see the light scatter of freckles on Jimin’s cheeks. “I’ve choreographed so many of your songs.” He watches Jimin grin up at him and he can’t help the feeling of wanting to touch those cheeks. “Namjoon hyung talked about your shows a lot and it always made me so envious. I’ve always wanted to go to one but never could.”
“Maybe you can come to the one at the end of the month.” Yoongi offers. “If you want to.”
“I want to!” Jimin says enthusiastically. “I’ve wanted to go since First Love came out and—”
“We’re still here.” Namjoon complains.
“And so is your food.” Jin sets a plate in front of him.
Jimin startles, almost as if he’s forgotten the rest of them were still standing there, watching their entire conversation.
“Sorry for my fanboying.” Jimin shoots them both an embarrassed smile. “I just got so excited when I got to meet Yoongi hyung.”
“It’s fine,” Jin says, humor clear in his voice. “I’m sure Yoongi finds it cute.”
Jimin flushes and Yoongi feels like he’s just as red.
“Excuse me.” They all turn to look at the customer waving at them awkwardly.
Hoseok’s serving smile appears almost instantly as he heads towards the duo sitting further away.
“I’ve got to go.” Standing abruptly, Jimin makes a blind attempt at grabbing his bag. “It was nice meeting you guys.”
Yoongi shoots a hand out, grabbing Jimin’s arm before he can leave.
JImin’s eyes are wide when he looks at him.
“I’ll see you at the show?” he asks.
Jimin stares at him, nodding mutely as he bites his lip.
“Good.” That’s all Yoongi says, before he lets go of the younger.
In his haste, Jimin trips over his own foot.
Yoongi finds himself shooting a hand out to help but his hands drop awkwardly back to his side when Jimin regains his balance.
With another softly uttered goodbye, Jimin waddles off like a little chick.
And Yoongi’s is so utterly endeared it feels like it could be love.
