Work Text:
Growing up, Izuku had always admired heroes.
He admired everything they stood for.
In his eyes, pro heroes were selfless beings determined to fight against evil and save those in need.
However, at the time, he just didn't know how rotten this world truly is.
He didn't know about the greed some heroes had.
At age 18, Izuku knew too well how the true nature of a hero is revealed the moment a life is at stake.
Everyone wants to save that life, but how many want to save it through their own volition?
If thr cameras were all cut off, would they still show the same drive to save?
He lost complete faith in heroes the second his mother died.
The day his innocence died as well.
All of those heroes, yet they couldn't save one woman in a burning building?
They had the audacity of stopping him from running into the apartment complex.
They re-assured him, telling him to believe in them, to trust them.
Because Izuku was Izuku, of course he trusted them. He whole heartedly believed that that the heroes would save his mother and everything would go back to normal for the two of them.
He planned on telling her his plans on giving up his pursuit of becoming a hero.
Earlier that day, All-Might himself that broken hia dreams. Yet, deep down, he always knew that he had no chance of ever leaving his footprint in history.
He was quirkless.
Meaning he'd probably live his life normally, probably find love somewhere down the road, if anyone would ever want to be with a quirkless person that is.
Afterwards, he'd die without ever existing in some people's eyes.
That was the hard truth in hero society.
Having an impractical or useless quirk wasn't all that better than having none at all. However, just the fact that a person had a quirk at all immediately made them "better" than the ones who didn't.
Izuku found it hilarious how some classmates who bullied him had the audacity to bully him with such garbage quirks.
Like that one guy who used to be apart of Kacchan's clique.
The guy with the long fingers, now THAT was useless.
Pulled from his reminiscence, Izuku was currently on his way home from his part time job.
He worked at a local convenience store but it was better than the alternative of not working at all.
He didn't want to end up homeless at 18 after all.
Izuku wanted to go to School but he couldn't afford the cost of tuition with his job.
So for now, all his life consisted of was working behind a counter and walking home.
The latter had almost been taken away from him.
As he was walking back to his humble abode, Izuku made the mistake of letting his guard down.
While it wasn't necessarily an area filled with crime, it was still possible.
No place is ever completely one hundred percent safe.
Unless you lived in Elysium, no place would ever be completely safe.
Izuku heard the sound of a gun cock behind him.
Instinctively, he put his hands up but didn't dare bother turn around.
"You have five seconds to empty everything you have in your pockets and give em to me. If not, I'll blow your fucking brains out you hear me?" The robber threatened.
Izuku gulped
As he was getting ready to comply, he heard the sound of pained grunts from behind him
"Sorry, but no one is getting their brains blown out tonight, not on my watch." A new voice stated.
In place of the robber who was now groveling in pain while handcuffed to the ground, was a young woman.
A pro hero it seemed.
She had short brunnete hair and a skintight bodysuit that in his opinion, definitely had its charms.
Izuku remembered where he was and spoke.
"U-umm... Thank You Miss..?" Izuku asked as he trailed off at the end.
"Uravity. That's my hero name!" The now revealed Uravity exclaimed.
"I'm just doing my job! I'm not a hero yet but guys like these remind me of why i want to become one!"
"Um.. If you don't mind me asking, why do you want to become a hero Miss Uravity?"
"Of course! Well, I want to be a hero for two reasons. I want to help my parents out and make sure that they're well taken cared of. The second reason is the smile on people's faces every time we save them. I love saving people. Even if I'm not "on par" with other people in terms of strength, That all doesn't matter when you get to see the genuine smiles on people's faces when they get saved, ya know?"
Izuku nodded.
Izuku remembered her.
She was the one who almost have Kacchan a run for his money at the Sports Festival a few years back.
"Uravity...What does it mean to be a hero?"
"Well, every hero has a duty to go out and save people. I'll admit that some people are motivated by the promise of fame and wealth. However, I do believe the pros outweigh the cons. As long as you go out there and lay down your life to make sure someone else has a chance to live theirs, then you'd have my full respect as a hero and as a person!" Uravity stated with a smile.
"Well, I have to get going soon Mr?"
"Izuku, you can just call me Izuku."
Well, Izuku it seems I have to go now. Next time, we'll continue this conversation."
As she was getting ready to walk away, Izuku asked her
"How do you know we'll meet again?"
"I don't know, but you seem like a nice guy. I wouldn't mind seeing you again someday!" With that, Uravity disappeared from the scene.
As he continued his walk home, Izuku smirked.
'Uravity, huh? I'll make you mine one day...'
With that, Izuku unlocked his door and got ready for a well deserved rest.
He could enact his plans somewhere down the line.
For now, all he planned on doing was to sleep.
