Dumb Things

Work Text:

Katsuki pulled his helmet off and sighed. That stupid villain beat the shit out of him today and he was pissed to say that if he had been alone he probably would have lost. He hated to admit that Deku being there is what saved his life, so of course, he didn’t. He finished out the paperwork and rode home without another word.

As far as he knew Shoto hadn’t had much more than his patrols today so he should be home already but he must have gone to the store or some shit since his car wasn’t in the driveway.

Katsuki walked into the house, locking the door behind him, and set down his helmet on the shelf. He went straight to the bathroom and stripped off his sweaty hero costume, setting it aside to get washed while he hopped into the shower. He stretched out and stood there in silence, letting the water wash away the small cuts and dirt from the fight today. He was looking forward to cooking dinner and laying on the couch to relax.

He just hoped Shoto didn’t have any plans for the night because he really wanted to stay home. His day sucked and he was not in the mood to go hang out with any of their other friends. Especially not since Shoto just loved to make plans with Deku. The damn nerd may have saved his life today but he wasn’t in the mood to hear him psychoanalyze the villain or try to ask him if he was okay with any of what happened. The answer was no. He was not, in fact, okay and he didn’t want to fucking talk about it.

Katsuki stepped into the bathroom and pulled off his costume, setting them aside so he could get it washed. He climbed into the shower and turned the water on to let the warmth wash the blood and dirt away from his body.

The sound of the front door opening was drowned out by the shower but Katsuki could tell Shoto was home when he got out and saw the hallway light on. Shoto was the only one who bothered to use it. He pulled on a new pair of boxers and went into their shared bedroom, wrapping his arms around the other hero’s waist and grumbling.

“Hard day?” Shoto asked, an eyebrow raised as he turned to look back at the explosive hero.

“You wouldn’t believe” Katsuki muttered in response, burying his face in Shoto’s neck and huffing.

“Hmm. Well, I suppose it is a good thing that Eijiro decided to cancel for tonight isn’t it?” Shoto turned around in his boyfriend’s arms and reached up to place a hand on his cheek. “Why don’t we relax for a bit, my love? You can cook if you want to and we can watch something on the tv?”

“Sure” Katsuki muttered. He had forgotten that Eijiro invited them over to help him with things tonight but he was glad to hear he had cancelled. He really wasn’t in the mood for his best friends high energy at the moment.

“Perfect, go ahead and get started if you would like and I’ll set up some things for us to enjoy” Shoto kissed Katsuki gently on the side of his head before letting go of him to walk out to the living room. He put in a movie he was sure would help Katsuki cheer up and went into the kitchen to watch him cook.

Katsuki sighed as he chopped up the vegetables for their dinner and turned back to look at Shoto. “I’m not sure I’m gonna make anything super fancy tonight. I’m so tired” He grumbled, tossing the chopped veggies into the pot on the stove and turning back to look at him fully.

“That’s okay, Kat. We don’t have to have gourmet restaurant-style food every night” Shoto assured. He watched Katsuki turn around to toss the soba noodles into the pot as well before turning back to him and rolling his eyes.

“I didn’t say it wasn’t going to be gourmet style” He chuckled. “All my food is gourmet” He leaned up and kissed Shoto before turning to stir the noodles and watch them cook.

Shoto hummed and nodded. “Of course of course” he chuckled and ran his fingers up Katsuki’s arm before lacing their hands together.

“What are you doing, dork?” Katsuki asked, looking at Shoto and rolling his eyes.

“Dance with me”

“What? There isn’t even any music and I am trying to cook which was part of your request I might-” Katsuki yelped as he was suddenly pulled closer to Shoto and into his arms. The gentle swaying was nice, calming, but not exactly what Katsuki was focusing on.

“Relax, my love. You’re not going to burn the noodles if you relax for a brief moment in my arms, are you?” Shoto gave Katsuki a face that made his worries melt. That dumb face was so calming and Katsuki just loved it so much.

“I suppose not” He murmured and laid his head on Shoto’s chest. “Why the hell are you so tall, stupid?” He asked.

Shoto chuckled in response and began to sway gently, holding Katsuki close to his body. He laid his head on Katsuki’s and rubbed small circles in his back. “I love you Katsuki” He whispered.

“I love you too dumbass.” He grumbled and pushed away from Shoto to turn and start stirring the noodles again.

“Oh come now my love I just want to help you feel better” Shoto sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. He leaned against the counter and watched Katsuki cooking. “Was it really that bad?”

“I don’t want to talk about it” Katsuki let out a huff and started to pour their food into bowls for the two of them. He almost died today. He almost lost everything he had worked for this whole time and he was not going to give that up so easily. Plus he didn’t want to worry Shoto. After all, he was fine now.

“Here” Katsuki grumbled out, setting the bowl onto the table and sitting.

“Katsuki”

“I said I don’t want to talk about it!”

“I wasn’t going to say that, would you please relax?”

“What then?”

“I love you”

Katsuki grumbled and started to eat. “I love you too” he muttered, staying in silence until he finished his food. He washed the dishes after Shoto had finished his food as well. He ran his fingers through his hair and looked over at Shoto.

“I’m sorry”

Shoto looked at Katsuki and his eyes widened as he noticed the small tears on Katsuki’s cheeks. “Oh, my love you have nothing to be sorry for. It’s okay, come here” he wrapped his arms and wrapped his arms around his hips to pull him in close.

“I love you, why don’t we go sit on the couch and relax for a bit okay?” Shoto pulled Katsuki close and sat on the couch with him, wrapping his arms around him again and kissing his cheek. He knew that Katsuki liked to criticize bad movies and documentaries so he put on one of them and saw the smile from the corner of his eyes.

Not even ten minutes into the movie, Katsuki was already in a much better mood as he threw insults at the editors and directors for all of the wrong information they were spouting about the heroes on the screen.

“Oh, that’s not even remotely close!” He screamed as he watched them talk about the hero like he was never thinking about being a hero until he got recommended to UA. “When he was a kid his dad was a villain so he decided from then on out he was going to be a hero.”

Shoto only gave a chuckled and nodded. “Sounds familiar”

“My dad wasn’t a villain dumbass”

Shoto shrugged. “No, but you decided you wanted to be a hero very young”

Katsuki went to respond but overheard another comment from the narrator about how he may have been better of a villain.

“God that’s a joy I love when people say that” He rolled his eyes. “If he was better off a villain don’t you think he would be a fucking villain?” He sighed and looked at Shoto, grumbling when he saw the smile on his face.

“Aw come on, you know well enough that you have proved all of them wrong and so did he” Shoto shrugged and leaned over to kiss Katsuki on the cheek.

“Yeah yeah...whatever” Katsuki grumbled and ran his fingers through his hair before turning back to the tv. The rest of watching the movie is covered in just a few grumbles and more annoyed comments towards the way they were narrating his life.

When the movie ended he turned over and looked at Shoto, reaching up to set his hand on his cheek and sighing. “You’re such a dumbass” he muttered. “I love you”

Shoto chuckled and ran his fingers up through Katsuki’s hair. “I love you too.”
