Chapter Text
Izuku Midoriya wished he had finished college at the age of 22, had a secure job, a charming apartment in a peaceful area, and could have given his neighbors baked cookies for the holidays. His life has turned out to be the exact reverse of what he had hoped. The Omega was abandoned after his mother died and was forced to fend for himself. Izuku had to take a gap year and work two part-time jobs that didn't pay that well and left him exhausted after each shift so he could pay for his tuition. While he was working, the poor guy hardly had time for a decent meal or the proper eight hours of sleep. His physical and mental health were both suffering as a result. He was fortunate enough to be able to return to school after saving up enough money for a few semesters and finding a tiny scholarship, but it didn't improve his financial circumstances. Unfortunately, he still had to work to put food on the table and pay his rent and maintain good grades so he can keep his scholarship. Which was proving very difficult to do.
Izuku hurried home after finishing his final shift at the diner and quickly put his shoes and coat in their designated areas. Midoriya softly entered the living room after hanging his keys on the rack and discovered his two roommates sprawled on the couch with the TV remote dangling dangerously in Mirio's hand. As the considerate roommate and friend that he is, Izuku carefully removes the remote from Mirio's slack grip and sets it gently on the coffee table, where Tamaki was presently sitting with his feet up. The green-haired omega then drapes the two sleeping bodies with the throw blanket they kept on the sofa for emergencies and made his way to his room after making sure the two were squared away. His first class was in seven hours and he needed to at least get a decent four and a half hours of rest in. Izuku takes a brief shower, puts on whatever he thinks will do as pajamas for the evening, and makes his way to the pitiful nest that resides in the corner of his room. He falls asleep almost immediately after his head touches the pillow.
"IZU-KUN!!" He is rudely awakened by Mirio's audible screeching.
"You better get up now or you'll be late for your first lesson, Tamaki made breakfast." He then abruptly removes the warm covers from Izuku's body.
Izuku sighs and follows his boisterous roommate after swinging his legs over the thin mattress. He genuinely likes the man, but when Izuku is only functioning on four hours of sleep and hasn't yet had his coffee, he can be a little bit much for the sleep-deprived omega.
The green-haired man fights the last remnants of his sleep and stumbles his way toward the kitchen where his two roommates are.
"Good morning Izuku, thanks for covering us with the blanket last night." Tamaki says as he places a fresh plate of pancakes and bacon in front of him.
"it was no problem." Izuku says after greeting the other omega and then proceeding to stuff his face with the pancakes he so graciously laid out for him.
Unbeknownst to Izuku, Tamaki and Mirio exchange a secret glance over Izuku's shoulder. They debate in silent eye contact for a while before making a conclusion.
"Hey, Izu-Kun Tamaki, and I have to tell you something."
Izuku, who has a mouthful of pancakes, glances up at the two and is surprised by the way they both address him. Tension built up on both of their shoulders. Before giving the couple in front of him his full attention, the Omega swiftly gulps down his mouthful.
"Is everything okay?" He asks inquisitively.
"Everything is fine, it's just that…" Mirio takes a breath and rests a hand on Izuku's left shoulder, Tamaki mirroring his mate.
If Izuku wasn't concerned before, he is now.
"Guys, what's going on?"
"Tamaki's pregnant." Mirio sputters out.
"Wow, congratulations to you two, how far along are you Tamaki?" Izuku whirls his head around to see the older Omega flushing and hunching his head shyly.
"I'm barely a month along." He says while smiling modestly.
Izuku was delighted for the two of them; they'd been trying for a child for a year and were now ready to have their own. Izuku met both of them in their third year of college, while he was in his first. They needed a roommate to help pay the rent, and Izuku happened to be seeking a place to stay. They became excellent friends throughout that first year and decided to let Izuku stay there until he could get on his feet. After his mother died, those two were there for him and without them, he would not have had anyone to rely on.
"Thank you, but the reason we needed to talk to you was because of that," Mirio replies, frowning slightly.
Izuku looks at the two, perplexed; what else did they need to discuss with him?
"Tamaki and I were discussing, and we decided we needed to move. We don't feel safe raising a child in this neighborhood. We understand how difficult it is to live out there on your own, and we wish we didn't have to, but Izuku..." Izuku freezes as Mirio sighs.
"We won't be able to accommodate you when we move." Tamaki completes the sentence for him.
Izuku knows in his head that this is perfectly rational, yet he can't help but feel doomed. Izuku knows he can't be selfish, so he smiles brightly and turns to face the pair.
"It's fine; I'm genuinely delighted for you and wanted to thank you for allowing me to be here for the past three years. I'll work it out, so don't be concerned; I'll be alright." Even though Izuku knows he isn't fine and probably won't be for a while.
Izuku looks up at the wall clock they've hung above the garbage can and thinks it's time to get ready.
"I need to get ready for school, but if you leave the dishes in the sink, I'll wash them when I get home." The Omega declares as he gathers his plate and cutlery.
Izuku goes to his room to get his clothing for his shower after putting his dishes in the sink. He goes to the bathroom after choosing an enormous white sweater that swamps his torso and a pair of skinny jeans. Izuku is aware that the moment the restroom door closes, his mind will go rampant and he would be unable to stop muttering. By the end of his shower, he was certain his throat was hoarse. When he gets out of the shower, his mind goes into autopilot, going through the same procedure as usual in an attempt to take his mind off the problem at hand. He quickly puts on his clothes and completes his morning routine by cleaning his teeth, applying his favorite vanilla-scented moisturizer, and applying deodorant. Izuku gets his dirty clothing and walks to his room, where he places them in the hamper and retrieves his phone and bag.
Izuku waves farewell to his two roommates as he walks out the door and begins his long trek to his school's campus, unaware that he was about to encounter one of his long-time idols unexpectedly.
