Work Text:

Tsuyu had the weighted blanket for a reason. Sometimes, if it was an especially busy school day or after a villain attack, she’d cuddle under it to help ground herself, She just didn’t expect to be using it like this. Midoriya had been studying with her, and he had excused himself to use the bathroom. When he returned, he was shaking and pale. She had raised an eyebrow.

“Mido, are you okay? Kero.”

“I-I’m fine, Tsu! Let’s just study some more…”

It was so obvious that something had happened. But she left it alone. Their phones were buzzing like crazy, and Tsuyu watched in concern as Midoriya shook more and got paler with each new vibration.

She excused herself to get a glass of water, deciding to let Midoriya have some time to himself. Maybe he needed space. She got into a small conversation with Hagakure, before going back to her room. Before she even opened the door, the heavy thud of a textbook hitting the floor made her jump.

After extricating the back of her shirt from a small hook in the ceiling vent outside her door, she threw said door open. Midoriya was curled up in his chair, the small foldable table they were using having tipped over. He was still shaking, small whimpers and sobs coming from his figure. Tsuyu hesitantly put a large hand on his back, and she jumped again when he shrieked and fell off his chair.

Her eyebrows furrowed, before she realized what must be going on. Midoriya was autistic, as had been learned when he had a meltdown one time in class. Everything going on in the groupchat must have sent him into a sensory overload, and her touching him must have made it worse. She busied herself dimming the lights and turning off the tiny fountain she had happily burbling away in the corner, staying silent. Right now, every little noise made would add to Midoriya’s mental pain. After all was said and done, she quietly padded her way to her bedroom and grabbed the weighted blanket. When Midoriya’s breakdown was over, this should help ground him. It was fuzzy and soft, so it wouldn’t be too harsh on his skin.

As soon as she grabbed it, she made her quiet way back to the little sitting area she and him were in, sitting on the small futon with the weighted blanket folded over her lap. And she waited. Midoriya stayed curled up on the floor for a bit longer, but his shaking and crying had quietened down. His phone was still going off like crazy, and Tsuyu took the initiative to use her tongue to grab it and fling it into her bedroom. There, the sound wouldn’t be heard. She waited for what seemed like forever, letting Mido come back to himself. He finally started to uncurl himself from his little ball, sitting up on shaky arms. Red-rimmed eyes met Tsuyu’s own calm eyes, the color of the deep sea. She stood up, careful to keep from making too much noise, and held her hand out, letting the shaken teen choose whether to take it or not. A trembling hand slipped into her own, and she let out quiet croaks of comfort as she gently helped him to the couch.

As he settled, she sat next to him and draped the weighted blanket over the two of them. His figure relaxed even more under the reassuring weight of the blanket, and as she got comfy he curled into her side the tiniest bit. Letting him, she just readjusted herself until she was comfortable. Her reassuring smile as he quickly let himself fall into a state of rest, not sleep, just rest, turned quickly to one of danger as she pulled her own phone out. The class had some explaining to do here.
