It's a well-known fact that when Jeon Jeongguk wants to do something, he not only does it, he masters it.
“It” starts off straightforward, easy, and without much reason except a simple curiosity that sometimes acts as Jeongguk’s driving personality trait. “It” starts off with Jeongguk buying a bright red lipstick for himself one day and applying it with shy hands when he gets home. “It” starts off with Jeongguk staring at himself in the mirror, his cheeks blooming as red as his lips as they break out into a wide smile.
Yoongi sees him like that, on that first day. He walks in and goes still as he watches Jeongguk watch himself in the mirror and Jeongguk turns with pretty red lips and they kiss themselves silly that day, the red on Yoongi's lips looking quite pretty too.
Quickly, it becomes something more. Jeongguk doesn't just buy lipstick. He buys some eyeliner and mascara. He buys makeup brushes and blush and he buys lip gloss and eyeshadow. When he starts delving even more into the beauty community, he learns more than he thought possible and quickly jots down a list of necessities as determined by said community (primer, foundation, concealer, makeup remover, determination). Jeongguk starts experimenting. He starts having fun.
Yoongi and Hoseok are the biggest supporters of him, both of them cooing over how cute he looks and both of them pouting when they try to kiss him but are ultimately stopped by a Jeongguk that doesn't want to ruin the makeup he's spent an hour doing.
Quickly, it becomes one of Jeongguk's favorite hobbies. And like most of Jeongguk's favorite hobbies (singing, boxing, gaming, loving his two boyfriends and letting them kiss him silly when he wears makeup), he excels at it.
"Your makeup looks so cute today, Kook," Hoseok says with a smile when he gets home that day. Jeongguk looks up from the ramyun he's cooking and grins.
"Thank you, Hobi-hyung. I tried some brighter colors today."
Hoseok walks over to him, hugging him tightly from behind and resting his cheek on Jeongguk's shoulder. "It suits you. Everything suits you though. Although, the goth looks you were trying out were kind of funny."
“Yoongi thought I looked hot.”
“That’s because Yoongi probably wishes he was also goth.”
“I see the two of you are talking shit about me again.”
Jeongguk laughs, looking up from his food to grin at Yoongi. Hoseok laughs from behind him, his arms around Jeongguk tightening. “We’re always talking shit about you, hyung.”
“Good,” Yoongi replies. “I'm always talking shit about you two as well.”
“What do you say?” Jeongguk asks. “Do you say you have the hottest boyfriends ever?”
“Nope.”
Hoseok detaches himself from Jeongguk to go over and attach himself to Yoongi instead. Yoongi huffs but moves so he’s more comfortable in Hoseok’s embrace, and Jeongguk stares at them, completely enamored and in love.
“What do you think of my makeup today, Yoongi? Hoseok thinks it looks cute.”
Yoongi flushes and nods, his eyes going to Jeongguk’s lips, which are painted a pretty bright pink. “You look really beautiful, Jeongguk.”
Jeongguk hums, taking in his boyfriends with a thoughtful gaze. Suddenly, Jeongguk is struck not for the first time, how pretty his boyfriends would look with makeup on. And suddenly, his thing, his hobby, his newfound love has taken on a new turn.
“Could I practice on you?”
Jeongguk knows the answer already. Not even a month ago, while the three of them were cuddling in bed, Yoongi had commented he’s been thinking about the “makeup scene” as well. Hoseok had sleepily mumbled out that it’d definitely be fun and something worth trying, and when Jeongguk said he didn't even need it, Hoseok hushed him with a kiss. Jeongguk never brought it up again though, not sure if they were joking or not. Besides, he wasn’t super confident in his skills back then. He didn’t want to bring it up and then disappoint them by saying he wasn’t sure he could even do their makeup properly.
Despite knowing what they're going to stay, he's still as he waits for their answer, clutching the pot’s handle tightly. His ramyun should be ready by now. He takes it off the heat, letting his gaze fall from his boyfriends.
Then, “I would love that."
Jeongguk looks up immediately. Hoseok is smiling.
“Really?”
“Of course we would,” adds Yoongi. “I wanted to ask you anyway. It’s just,” he blushes, “I didn’t know how to. I don’t know. What if you didn’t want to practice it on me?”
Jeongguk blinks. “Come with me.” He starts heading to their room.
“What about your ramyun?”
“I’ll eat it later, come on.”
They follow him.
When he gets to their room, Jeongguk disappears into their bathroom for a minute as he hastily grabs his makeup supplies. He’s barely able to carry it all but luckily, the walk isn’t far and he drops it all on their bed. Both Hoseok and Yoongi sit with their legs crossed and a fond smiles.
Jeongguk studies them with a frown. “Hmm, since I'm just testing out some things right now, I won’t apply foundation or primer or anything like that. It’s not like we’re all going out tonight.” He eyes them some more. Finally, he clicks his tongue and nods. “Hobi-hyung, I'm putting eyeliner on you. Yoongi, you’re getting blush and eyeshadow, for sure.”
“You know so much about all of this, Kook. It’s so cool,” Hoseok mumbles dreamily. Jeongguk bites his lip, holding back a smile. He needs to focus.
In that next hour or so, the two of them are perfectly still for Jeongguk. Gently, Jeongguk presses blush against Yoongi’s pretty cheeks and Hoseok’s mouth opens in amazement when he first sees it. Jeongguk fucks up their eyeliner pretty badly, but Hoseok’s right eye looks good and that’s already better than he expected. Yoongi can’t help but kiss Jeongguk when Jeongguk is carefully applying his mascara, which not only ends up in mascara on Yoongi’s cheek but mascara on Jeongguk’s cheek, too.
When he does their lipstick, Hoseok quietly asks for the same lipstick color Jeongguk’s wearing, which nearly tempts Jeongguk in trying out a new way of applying lipstick through a kiss.
(Yoongi's kiss may have riled Jeongguk up. Just a bit.)
He wants Hoseok to look nice though, well... as nice as he can with the horribly applied eyeliner and small areas of eyeshadow on his left eyebrow. So instead, Jeongguk marvels at how Hoseok’s lips have somehow gotten even prettier with lipstick. Yoongi says the same thing out loud, muttering out something about how it isn’t fair that his boyfriends are so hot.
Finally, he finishes, applying Yoongi’s black lipstick with a shit-eating grin before pulling himself back to admire his work.
Jeongguk is so lucky to have them be his.
“You both look really beautiful,” Jeongguk breathes out. “So hot.”
All three of them kiss each other silly that day, too
After that, Yoongi and Hoseok start experimenting as well, learning almost as much as Jeongguk learned when he first started, but not needing to buy nearly as much since they're horrible menaces that just borrow Jeongguk's. They put makeup on themselves on the days they feel they want it and they even do Jeongguk’s makeup sometimes, just wanting to be near him.
The “kissing each other silly” thing never really fades either so they definitely have to watch themselves in public, especially when all three of them are wearing it, but it's fun and exciting and Jeongguk wouldn’t have it any other way.
And he never tries to.
