Observing

Work Text:

Toshinori was observing. Nothing more, nothing less. His job was to judge Present Mic’s teaching style and tell Aizawa, so he could tell the loud man what to adjust or not to adjust in his style. It was free time for the class, and Present Mic was texting someone. If the incessant buzzing in his pocket indicated anything, it was the group chat. The students were chattering, and he gave a soft but warm smile when Midoriya glanced his way. He got a sunny smile in response, and an enthusiastic wave. And that was when it started.

Midoriya jumped several feet in the air, accompanied by most of his classmates, when he heard the screeching coming from Present Mic’s desk. Toshinori himself jumped, blood spurting from his mouth in surprise. Looking in surprise to the teacher in the room, he was startled to see him just sitting there, screeching at something on his phone. Class 1-A was still shifting, all of them on edge from the high-pitched shriek. Toshinori rolled his eyes and pulled out the teacher groupchat, ready to tell Hizashi to shut up . When he was told to read up, he did, not sure what to expect. But when he saw the screenshots, and picture file, his eyebrows tried to escape from his head.

Poor kid, this is what the Quirkless of the world deal with nowadays.

Wait, there’s only one kid I know who’s Quirk would have come in at the entrance exam…

Toshinori sent the question he had, waiting for the response. Present Mic had finally stopped screaming. And then he got the response.

yes

Toshinori’s world went quiet. His boy, his dear Midoriya, had been through all of this? Then he realized. He said that his friend, Kacchan, had told him to do a swan dive off the roof. If what he knew was right, then on the same day… On the same day he had completely shredded the boy’s dreams, and left him…

On a rooftop.

He didn’t register his moving until he was moving, Midoriya’s yelp snapping him back to himself. He had wrapped Midoriya in his thin arms, holding him tightly to himself. His classmates were quiet, the occasional snicker breaking through.

“U-uh, Toshinori-sensei? What are you…”

Yep. Not letting go. Sorry Present Mic my boy takes top priority.

He started walking back to his chair in the corner, picking up the small teen and carrying him along. The class turned to look, Present Mic included. He cocked an eyebrow at them, silently challenging the teacher, who looked like he was about to jump Toshinori for rights of holding Midoriya.

Well, I’m not intruding, am I? Carry on!”
