this is officially the third fic i've written for fari, and there will probably be more. hope you enjoy fari, love you ╰(*´︶`*)╯♡

CW for some alcohol drinking. also continuing the theme of naming fics using joji songs, this one shares a name with his song Attention because it was too perfect. i use the word attention way too much in this fic.

Work Text:

Hoseok loves all of his babies. He coddles and cuddles and kisses them daily, and they always preen under his affection.

But Jimin and Taehyung have noticed something lately that’s got them both feeling a little sour: Jungkook’s been getting more attention than them. Nearly every night the youngest is finding himself in Hoseok’s bed, cuddling until morning comes. He’s always grabbing at Hoseok’s hand or pressing himself into Hoseok’s back to link limbs and bury his nose into his hair. Every time they look at their favorite Sunshine Hyung, Jungkook is attached to him somehow, and it’s starting to get on their nerves. They want to get Hoseok’s attention, too. It’s no fair that Jungkook is suddenly hogging all of it, when Hoseok’s always shared it with the three of them freely and equally. What’s so special about Jungkook anyway?

So naturally, they plot.

It’s two against one, which means they’ve got the upper hand in this war of Hoseok’s affections, and they use it to their advantage. It’s simple, really; one of them will distract Jungkook while the other coddles Hoseok, and take turns. Jungkook might be difficult when it comes to prying him away from their Sunshine Hyung, but Jimin and Taehyung have some tricks up their sleeves. They’ve been living together long enough to know Jungkook’s weak spots.

On day one of Operation: Steal Hobi-hyung’s Attention From Attention Whore Jungkookie (“This name is ridiculous, Taehyungie.” “No, it’s practical .”), it’s Taehyung’s turn to do the distracting. He steals Jungkook from Hoseok’s bed early in the morning with the promise of free breakfast. Hoseok barely wakes as he loses Jungkook’s body heat, only to smile and slip back into sleep after giving Jimin a kiss on the head once he’s taken Jungkook’s spot.

While Taehyung spends the morning feeding Jungkook and playing Overwatch with him, Jimin keeps Hoseok warm until they decide to get up, making breakfast for him while he’s in the shower. It’s a sleepy Sunday morning, and Hoseok looks so happy to be cuddled and taken care of by Jimin.

“Wahh, you’re so cute, Jiminie, such a good dongsaeng, I’m so lucky to have you,” Hoseok says every few bites of food, so pleased and sleepy and happy. Hoseok makes sure to reward Jimin greatly with lots of kisses once they’re done eating, and Jimin is absolutely on cloud nine from all of Hoseok’s little praises and touches.

Jimin asks Hoseok to look at the new routine he’s been working on for his choreography class and the older is so excited to be able to see what Jimin has been working on and give him feedback that Jimin swears he’ll only ever ask Hoseok to do it from now on (as if he ever asked anyone else). Taehyung texts him a few updates while they’re at the dance studio, complaining about Jungkook cheating in their game and beating him every time, or how Jungkook stole some of his food without asking, and it makes both Jimin and Hoseok laugh when they take water breaks and see the spam of messages.

By the time Jimin’s done showing Hoseok his dance, getting pointers and ideas and feeling properly tired, they decide it’s time to get back to their apartment. They don’t forget to stop for take-out and bring some home for Jungkook and Taehyung, though.

Day two of Operation: Get Jungkookie Away From Hobi-hyung (“That’s so boring though, Jiminie!”) actually happens a few days later, when both Hoseok and Taehyung have their afternoons free after early morning classes. Hoseok had been talking about an art exhibit he was curious about, and Taehyung offered to go with him to keep him company.

They headed straight there after eating lunch together, Taehyung leaning his head on Hoseok’s shoulder the entire bus ride there. When they did arrive, Taehyung spent every second either holding Hoseok’s hand or taking his picture in front of the different art pieces. Hoseok smiled his beautiful heart shaped smile as they walked around, and Taehyung tried to catch its beauty with every photo.

“I like you, Hyung,” Taehyung says after he lowers his camera. It makes Hoseok laugh and blush.

“I know, Taehyungie.”

Taehyung grins right back at him.

When they return home that evening they cuddle up on the couch and watch a movie until Jungkook gets home from work and squeezes his way in between them on the couch, but Taehyung doesn’t mind. Instead, they both curl around him and explain what happened in the movie before he got there, even though he’s already half-asleep. It’s a good way to end the night, especially when Jimin gets home and cooks them all dinner.

The next weekend, Jungkook’s gone to Busan to visit his parents, leaving Jimin and Taehyung home alone with Hoseok. Of course, they jump on the opportunity to spend some quality time with him, and spend most of the week planning Operation: Spoil Hoseok-hyung So Much He Forgets About Jungkook (they high-five after naming that one). It has to be the perfect day, full of fun things to keep him occupied, and they’ve packed it full of things to do.

Step One: cook breakfast together. They drag Hoseok out of bed, ingredients already bought and ready to make something delicious. The three of them joke around and play with the ingredients, even as Hoseok yells at them for playing with sharp knives. They make a mess, between the three of them shuffling around the kitchen doing different tasks (or clinging to someone else while they’re doing the task, which Taehyung is enjoying immensely). Some food ends up on the floor, some on them, but most of it manages to end up on their plates which they scarf up quickly. It took much longer to cook than it should have, considering they were splitting the work up between the three of them.

Once they’ve tidied up, which wound up to be a project on its own, they move on to Step Two: shopping. Hoseok has been complaining about holes in his socks for weeks, and made a couple offhand comments about wanting some new clothes before it gets warm out, so it seemed like the perfect thing to do. They walk around the mall, Jimin holding Hoseok’s hand while Taehyung wanders a step ahead and talks excitedly about different things he sees in the shop windows. They get him some socks first, meander around a couple high-end boutiques to pique their curiosity and complain about prices, and finally go into one of Hoseok’s favorite clothes stores where he tries on all sorts of colorful shirts and short shorts. Jimin and Taehyung hype him up with every outfit he tries on, making Hoseok flush bright red, but his smile is so wide with every embarrassing hoot and holler. By the time he’s done trying everything one, he so flustered he doesn’t even argue when Taehyung pays for a few of the items Hoseok liked most.

Despite it only being about two in the afternoon, they’re all a bit tired after leaving the mall. Which leads to Step Three: nap time! Once they’ve got Hoseok’s new things put away, Jimin pulls him into bed and Taehyung climbs right on top of him to trap him in bed. Hoseok whines and squirms and tries to push Taehyung off of him, but he’s giggling while doing it, and they can tell he’s already succumbed to being smothered to sleep.

For Step Four: dinner, they decide to order in because they’re too lazy to make anything they already have. It’s still a little early, but they hadn’t eaten anything for lunch besides a couple of warm pretzels while they wandered the mall, so they’re all starving by the time food arrives.

Finally, the entire day has led up to Step Five: clubbing. It’s been a while since they’ve gone out together, and Jimin and Taehyung decided it was the perfect thing to end their day together. Unfortunately, it has one setback that they should have predicted.

“Jungkookie would have loved to come dance with us.” Hoseok is pouting as he ties his shoes, all dressed up in one of the new outfits they bought for him today. He’s looking particularly sparkly, beautiful as always, and Jimin has called him pretty at least a dozen times while Taehyung finishes getting ready in the other room.

“Hyung,” Jimin sighs, “Jungkookie told us he wouldn’t mind if we went without him, he knows it’s been a while. Plus, we’ll have so much fun that you won’t even miss him! We can get drunk and take hot selfies in dirty bathroom mirrors to send to him until he agrees to skip work and go with us next weekend.”

Hoseok seems to think about that for a second, and then sighs. “Yeah, I guess. Help me up, Jiminie.” He reaches his hand out for Jimin, who pulls him up and close, close enough to kiss his nose. Jimin smiles smugly, proud of his small accomplishment while Hoseok moves to cling onto him with a tight hug. They don’t pull apart until Taehyung is dragging them out the door, talking about how excited he is to go to this new club his friends from college have started going to.

When they finally arrive and get into the club, they almost skip the bar completely in favor of getting on the dance floor, buzzing with excited energy. But Jimin insists on getting a drink first, dragging them over and only flirting with the handsome bartender a little bit while he orders them a round of shots. Taehyung smacks his arm when he winks at the man, and Hoseok pouts and pulls him away after paying, but Jimin laughs them off and takes his shot, and then half of Taehyung’s before handing it over (a tradition they’ve made up after learning Taehyung doesn’t enjoy drinking as much as him).

And, finally, they’re dancing. They dance and dance, pressed close even when their bodies become damp with sweat, and as they go back to the bar for another round of drinks. At one point they end up slinking out of the club they started at and into a different one, one they go to often. They know the bartender there, where he gives them a free round before getting back on the dance floor.

A lot of people watch, mesmerised, as they move together so naturally. Jimin and Hoseok are going to school for dance, and they’re good at what they do, but Taehyung is a natural as well, moving with the beat. Put them all together and there’s an electric feeling in the air, bringing curious eyes and driving others away. It’s clear that they came together and aren’t looking for a fourth.

Once they’re properly drunk, they stumble into the club’s bathroom where there’s a nice big mirror they’ve taken countless selfies in front of before. It’s like a routine. Come out, get drunk, dance until they’re hot and sweaty, and squish together in front of the bathroom mirror to take blurry pictures.

The first picture is of their feet, Hoseok giggling too much to keep the camera still. The second one is better, has all their faces in it at least, all of them leaning against each other to try to stay standing in their drunken haze. Taehyung took that one, and another that’s a little more steady, capturing less empty bathroom space and more of them in all their messy, sweaty glory. Finally Jimin takes the phone from Taehyung, and they all calm down enough to take a selfie they deem hot enough to send to Jungkook with a few of that one emoji (the one permanently tattooed on Jungkook’s finger, because the man has no shame and they love him for it).

Despite still having some life left in them, the three of them loiter around in the bathroom for a little while longer, taking a couple more selfies while they wait for a reply from Jungkook. It doesn’t take very long before Hoseok’s phone buzzes with a new snap from him. Taehyung and Jimin look excitedly over Hoseok’s shoulder as he opens it, and all of them are grinning when Jungkook’s pouty face shows up on the screen with a short ‘glad you’re having fun without me’ message. If Hoseok screenshots it before sending a kissy-faced selfie back and closing his phone, they don’t comment. Instead, they stumble back out of the bathroom and onto the dance floor.

“Why’d you guys… do so- uh, so much stuff today. With me,” Hoseok slurs. They’ve made it back home after calling a cab, all of them shedding their shoes and coats to stumble into Hoseok’s bed, because his is the biggest (though still barely big enough for the three of them). They’re all a little too drunk to be able to make it through a shower, so they smell sourly of sweat and alcohol. Their exposed skin sticks uncomfortably to the bed sheets and each other, but all three of them are still loose from all the liquor in their system and can’t seem to care. More worried about cuddling close in Jimin and Hoseok’s chilly room.

“‘ted to make you happy,” Taehyung mumbles, the beginning of his sentence barely audible when his face is shoved into Hoseok’s shoulder.

“Thought you’d be sad with Kook gone,” Jimin explains a bit better from Hoseok’s other side. He’s a little more awake than Taehyung, who succumbs to sleep easily with a little alcohol in his system and a warm body pressed against his.

Hoseok’s nose scrunches up slightly, once the cogs slowly click into place in his mind. “Didn’ have to. ‘Course I miss Kook, but it’s okay when I have you two. Make me happy.” Hoseok yawns, then, while Jimin smiles into his hair.

“Wanted to,” Jimin whispers, kissing Hoseok’s head. Because spoiling him makes them happy.

The three of them wake up to the beep of the apartment’s lock, door opening and closing, shoes kicked off and the  thud of Jungkook’s bag being tossed aside as he walks in. Normal Jungkook noises when he comes home in a good mood, too excited to place his things properly when he gets in.

The sun is up, but it’s still fairly early when Jungkook carefully opens the door to Jimin and Hoseok’s room. They’re in different stages of wakefulness. Hoseok, who’s used to waking up bright and early looking the most alert and smiling at Jungkook as he walks in, gets the first kiss. He has to lean over Jimin to do it, kissing Hoseok square on the lips and scrunching his nose afterward.

“Your breath stinks, did you even brush your teeth when you got home last night?” Jungkook teases. Hoseok pouts up at him, pulling his arm from Jimin’s grasp to wack at Jungkook.

“Rude! I’m hungover, be nice to me.”

Jimin, a little less awake, whines at the loss of his cuddling arm. Instead he turns around to squint at Jungkook in the morning light, pouting his lips until Jungkook leans down and kisses him too. Once he’s gotten his kiss, he smiles real pleased with himself, reaching up to pet a hand through Jungkook’s hair, gently pushing some stray strands out of his face.

“Thank you, Kookie. Sorry my breath stinks.”

Jungkook shakes his head with a shy smile, so sweet and happy. “It’s okay. I missed you,” he whispers. He was only gone two nights, but it always feels so long when he’s used to seeing his boyfriends every day.

“Missed you too,” Jimin mumbles, before Jungkook is moving to climb over them and on top of Taehyung where he’s squished between Hoseok and the wall.

Taehyung is the least awake of all four of them, just barely holding his eyes open, on the cusp of falling back asleep. Jungkook’s weight on top of him makes Taehyung grunt, forcing his eyes open to frown at their youngest boyfriend, who’s smiling innocently. “Tae-hyung, give me a kiss. I missed you.”

Through all his sleepiness, Taehyung manages to wiggle an arm out from under Jungkook to the back of his neck, rubbing the warm skin there gently before tugging him down into a sloppy kiss. Jungkook pulls away after a few seconds giggling and wiping his mouth. Taehyung gently tries to bring him back in for another one, but Jungkook shakes his head and pokes his nose. “You have to brush your teeth before you get another kiss, your breath smells like ass.”

Taehyung groans softly, closing his eyes again. “You’ve eaten ass before, what’s the problem now?”

Jungkook scrunches his nose. “The ass I’ve eaten tasted cleaner than your mouth just did, so you might need to reevaluate.” Taehyung scoffs, and Hoseok and Jimin giggle as they break apart from a sleepy kiss of their own. But Taehyung is already falling asleep again, so Jungkook gently climbs off of him and gets off the bed.

“I’ll grab you guys some water and then I’ll make some hangover soup. But you all owe me a date once I’ve nursed you back to health.” He’s already out the door by the time Hoseok and Jimin can agree, so instead they just smile at each other before Hoseok slowly slides out of bed.

“I’ll help him cook, you can wake Tae up,” Hoseok says as he shuffles out of the room. Jimin cuddles up to Taehyung and lets himself drift off again, instead

Later that night, once they’ve mostly recovered from their hangovers, they take Jungkook out to a nice dinner. The four of them haven’t had a whole lot of time to spend all together lately, and it’s nice to finally have a chance to gather for a date. The food is good, and the atmosphere is nice. Jungkook is the only one drinking, with a glass of red wine making him giggly and flushed. They share dessert, and Hoseok buys after getting spoiled yesterday.

As they’re walking out of the restaurant, Jungkook’s right hand holding Taehyung’s while Hoseok’s on his left with an arm around his waist, he gives Jimin a sly smile. “So, are you going to tell me why you two were stealing Hoseokie-hyung away the past week?”

Taehyung and Jimin both have the decency to look a little ashamed, while Hoseok looks confused. “What are you talking about?” Hoseok asks, oblivious to their plotting.

Jungkook pouts at him, turning up the drama as he lets go of Taehyung to fall into Hoseok even more than he already was. “Hyung! They were keeping me away from you all week so they could have you to themselves!”

Hoseok makes a strangled noise, still a little confused. “What do you mean? You still slept in my bed most of the week, and you watched that movie with me and Taehyungie. And we had lunch between classes at least two times.” Hoseok pauses. “I think I spoil you too much.”

The gasp Jungkook lets out is loud and scandalized. “Hyung!”

Taehyung and Jimin, who’ve fallen back a couple steps to hold each other’s hands, are laughing to themselves. “You kept hogging Hobi-hyung all to yourself, so we had to make some one-on-one time without you.” Jimin pokes at Jungkook’s back while he says it, making the younger turn his head to glare at him.

“I’m not hogging him, I just… just… like the way he smells,” Jungkook says with a huff, and noses into Hoseok’s neck. Jimin and Taehyung look at each other and roll their eyes with fond smiles. Of course he does, but that doesn’t mean they don’t get a little jealous sometimes.

“Just make room for us next time, yeah? Let me and Jimin sleep with you and Hoseok sometimes, until we can afford a bed that fits all of us,” Taehyung says with a laugh.

Jungkook suddenly stands up straight, looking at Hoseok and then back at the other two with sparkling eyes. “Can we have a sleepover in the living room? We can make a pillow fort!” He’s practically vibrating with excitement, and who are they to say no?

“Sure, Jungkookie,” Jimin agrees.

The other two agree just as readily, so when they get home, they get to making their ‘pillow fort’, which is really just every blanket they own laid down on the living room floor to try and make it more comfortable to sleep on, enough room for the four of them to cuddle up while they turn on a movie to fall asleep to. No picking and choosing who’s going to sleep where, or deciding to all sleep separately to make sure no one gets jealous (only to end in Jungkook slipping into someone’s bed anyway). Just the four of them pressed together, exchanging sleepy kisses every once in a while. Happy and loved.

Notes:

i was writing this and thought... "why don't they just push two beds together?" and then i imagined the awkward space in between the two beds, and what would happen if someone got stuck in that crack while they slept and the beds slowly drifted apart...... i like to imagine that happened to them and they learned from their mistakes.

anyway~ if you enjoyed please consider leaving a comment and telling me what you thought!! i try to reply to everyone and it really makes my day seeing people enjoy my writing!!<3
