Notes:

A/N: Okay, this is a new series that I figured would be a cute, short chapter story. It will only be less than 2,000 words a chapter but it will be continued so if you like it, leave a comment and let me know what you would like in it and I'll see what I can do!

Chapter Text

Rin knew all along what he really was. It wasn't too hard to figure out when his father and twin brother no less, went behind his back at nine years old and spoke about things that should have included him as well. It wasn't hard to hear them talk about when his next outburst would be or when he would punch someone again.

Whenever a demon would try and get his attention.

He had always been able to see demons... at first, he became freaked out over so many Coal Tars flying around and wanted to tell his father immediately but when he was about to enter the room, he overheard them both talking about him. Whenever a small demon- a lower level one- would come around him, Yukio would run to their father and tell him all about it.

Eventually, he heard them talking about something that made him freeze and his heart to start pumping erratically. Yukio was afraid of him, Yukio wanted to be an exorcist... something he learned of while eavesdropping on them. He also learned something that made his eyes widen and made him slide down the wall in silent turmoil.

They wanted to hide something from him that wasn't their right to hide. Yes, being a nine-year-old and finding out he was an actual half-demon wasn't something that helped Rin overcome his violent behaviour. Honestly, it only escalated it.

Now that Rin knew what he was, he didn't have to think of why he felt the urges he did. He knew why he wanted to punch the guy who called him a monster in the face. It wasn't just the realization that he was meant to be someone violent... He just didn't like it when people called him names and picked on his twin brother.

But, after he found out about Yukio hiding things from him, he picked up for Yukio less and less until almost everyday Yukio came home with at least one bruise on his body. Rin didn't have time for people who did stuff behind his back.

He didn't like being left out.

Sometimes, Rin saw Yukio crying in the backyard trying to push away a few of those small Coal Tars that always comforted him when he was feeling down. Rin assumed since they were so weak as a demon that they couldn't be spoken to. They, at least, were there for him... something that couldn't be said for his father or brother. He didn't like when Yukio hit them, they didn't deserve it.

Rin knew that his father wasn't really his father and often thought of who was. He wanted to know why his mother had loved a demon of all people. He wasn't mad or anything... it just put into perspective the things that could have been if his mother were still alive. Would his demon father be raising him and Yukio?

Ever since he started to see the demons around him, he had felt odd... almost as if something was missing from him. His heart always felt empty, like it wasn't supposed to be so light and each time he walked through the monastery, he felt a dark lurch in his gut that called out to him. It wanted him to follow it.

That was when he came across a locked room. A door that hid something that he knew belonged to him. He knew that what was behind those doors, meant everything to him and absolute terror to his so-called father and twin brother.

How could he ever be happy with what they have been doing? Hiding things that should be in their best interest to tell. Sharing is caring, after all. In this case, Rin knew they didn't care about him... if they did, they would have warned him of what he was.

That prompted him to find the key to the lock. He wanted what was in that room and he wanted it badly.

He watched closely to every move Shiro, as Rin got used to calling him in his head, made. Rin didn't consider him his father and he never would. That was when his eyes zeroed in on a necklace the old man was wearing. A key!

He waited until it was night time to sneak into Shiro's room and steal the key from right underneath his nose. He was so close he could taste it but when he reached his hand out to slowly grab the key, something else grabbed his wrist, pushing him down into the mattress.

"Rin!" Shiro began, shocked, "What are you doing in here?"

Rin didn't know what to say as he wracked his mind for an excuse, "I... I heard something and I was wondering if I could stay here for the night." The thought of sleeping in the same bed as the old man made Rin want to run away and never come back but it was necessary to get the key. If he couldn't get it now, then he could get it when Shiro really fell asleep.

An odd expression covered the old man's face before it settled on exasperation. "Rin, you know there is nothing to be afraid of." Rin actually felt betrayal hit him hard. What if he hadn't known a thing about demons, couldn't see them and something really did happen to him? Shiro wanted him fully unknowledgeable in the existence of demons.

"Yes but, just for the night?" He whispered, questionably.

"Okay Rin, but just for the night, okay?"

Rin nodded at him, slipping on the other side of the bed and down into the covers. He turned around to face the wall, not wanting to see Shiro for one more second. He waited and waited until finally, he heard soft snores flowing from the other side of the bed.

He slowly shifted to face the old man and once again reached his arm out to take the key from around his neck. It wouldn't budge so he took the end of the necklace and the key and busted it off the chain making a noise that made Shiro turn into the bed even more.

Sighing in relief, he crawled down at the bottom of the bed and stood up, walking toward the door to get out. He cringed as the door made a squeaking noise that he blamed for Shiro waking up the first time.

Rin looked back to make sure he was still asleep before walking quickly toward the locked door that held his property. Shakily, he propped the key up against the lock, wanting nothing else but it to open for him.

An exciting rush ran through his body, making him feel slightly light-headed. He was closer and the feeling felt a hundred times better than before. He wanted it, whatever it was and he was going to get it, even if he had to use force to get it if someone interfered.

Fortunately for him, not a soul realized where he was or what he was doing as he walked inside the small room. It was odd because the lock just lit up and automatically opened for him and his bright vivid blue eyes widened at the long sword laid out on a table.

Euphoria like nothing he'd ever felt before lit his entire body. He wanted it, he wanted it, he wanted it. It wasn't the sword he wanted... no... it was the power encased inside the sword. His power. His, his, his.

He just knew that having that sword in his possession would make him feel like himself; would finally make him feel whole again. Cautiously, both hands reached out to touch the sword and immediately, a blue flame lit the sword which traveled across his arm and up to his body. Conveniently, there was a small mirror the size of a twenty-four-inch television and he happened to glance at himself. What he saw made the hair on his arms stand on end.

He was engulfed in a vibrant blue flame which got stronger and stronger the more he touched the sword. The one thing that made him freeze was the even darker blue flame that covered his head like a crown and two horns.

This wasn't his full power, Rin knew. It was just a taste of what it would be and if Rin had anything to say about it, he would have the power inside the sword before the morning. He wrapped his entire hand around the sword, savouring the feelings he got from it.

He tried to control the flames that were around him and slowly they went lower and lower until they distinguished altogether. He didn't want anyone to notice blue flames of all things at the monastery.

He took the sword and slowly made his way out of the room and back out into the main hall. He locked the door again, making sure that not a soul would notice what he had done until he wanted them to.

He looked around to make sure he didn't have any company and walked out of the building and into the backyard. He knew he had to break the sword somehow but he didn't know if his strength was enough.

So, he tried and tried. Trying to crack it only made small little marks on the blade, he brought down against the brick to try and snap it in half but he knew it wouldn't work. If he didn't break it soon, he knew that they would hear the noise and investigate what was happening.

Finally, Rin managed to crack the blade a little... just enough for his power to come sailing toward him, right into his body. But, with even greater strength brought on by the blue flames, he brought the sword down against his knee and snapped in two.

Nothing... not a thing could compare to what he felt at that moment. There wasn't a word in the world to describe what he was feeling and looking back at before when the powers were unreachable to him and he felt like there was something missing? He didn't think he could ever go back again.

No one would steal this from him and he would make sure of it.

When reality hit him in the face, he was brought to his knees and with a sinking feeling in his chest, he realized that the blue flames had burst further out making it visible to anyone in range.

He hadn't burned anything so he quickly tried to turn his flames off. He knew what people did to demons... especially exorcists. He didn't know what he was going to do under a roof with a bunch of people out for his blood.

The flames didn't die down as he wanted them to and he sighed, it wasn't his fault that the flames probably missed its' owner. They wanted to be out and there was nothing he could do about it. It was pure agony thinking about turning off his flames and he was surprised that he even tried it the first time.

But, it was almost morning and Shiro usually got up at this time. So, without thinking about the feelings of his flames- because they did have feelings- he tried desperately to hide them away. Even if he wanted them out, he couldn't... for if he did, there wouldn't be anything left of him to have flames around.

Just because he was a demon with blue flames, didn't mean he was skilled enough to go against a bunch of exorcists untrained. He didn't know a thing about who he was or what he could even do.

He looked down at his hands and his eyed widened for the third time in just a few hours when he saw something that would be really hard to hide. He had sharp black nails that on further inspection, could probably cut the skin in a manner of seconds. He gasped when his tongue started to sting and realized that he had grown rather large sharp canines as well. He didn't want to look any further because he knew there was no way he could hide everything from the old man.

He gave in though as he went over to a brook of water and looked into his reflection. Gasping once again, his hand went up to meet the small horns at the top of his head that stuck out on each side. But also, the blue ring that went right around his head like a halo.

Even when he thought he had turned off his flames, they just kept coming back. He chuckled to himself. He didn't know how he even lived nine years without his flames. His eyes were even bluer than before but this time, there was another ring of red around his pupil giving off a rather predatory look.

He wouldn't be able to hide this if his life depended on it and really... it did. That was when something strange happened... He was looking at his human self in the water, the face that could fool anyone if he could keep it up. He didn't know what he had done to himself but he was grateful for it.

The sword, which was cracked into two pieces on the ground, was thrown carelessly and he picked it up not wanting anyone to see it. With an idea, he decided to take the sword back to the room, making sure it was still there for Shiro if he went to look at it and put the two pieces back together to make it look like no one touched it.

He felt something that he had never felt before... he felt contentment. Almost as if everything his nine-year-old self wanted had come true.

And really...? It did.

Chapter 2: II

Chapter Text

Rin looked up at Shiratori, an annoyed look crossing his face, "I honestly don't care what you call me," he chuckled, his arms intertwined in front of his chest.

"Demon!" The boy shouted, repeating himself.

"Can you think of anything else to say? This is getting boring..." said Rin, his annoyed look turning to boredom.

"Let's get out of here before he does something else to us!" He shouted to his gang before running in the opposite direction of Rin with a bleeding nose and busted lip.

Rin stared at the group running away before muttering to himself, "They never learn their lesson do they?" He turned to the direction of the Monastery, his heels dragging behind him letting everyone in his vicinity know that where he was going... he did not want to go.

He knew that when he arrived, there would be nothing but scorn about what he had been doing in his free time. So what if he liked fighting and punching people? They deserved it, did they not? The birds were defenceless and had no way to fight back... how was that honourable? Rin didn't care that much about it and he wouldn't have interfered if it wasn't for that look Shiratori had on his face as Rin passed them and the remark he had made.

"What are you lookin' at?" Shiratori shouted in Rin's direction, "I'm just gettin' rid of pests who are eating and swarming crap everywhere."

Rin was honestly going to mind his own business but Shiratori just had to insert him into the equation. "Don't care," said Rin, getting ready to continue moving to the Monastery on his bike.

"Hey, how dare you ignore us!" Rin hadn't ignored them and a tick formed on his eyebrow, his eyes forming into his demonic red swirl.

He dropped his bike and slowly walked toward them. Shiratori backed up a little, seeing his eyes but eventually stood his ground. It didn't take long for Rin to punch Shiratori straight into the face and he dropped back onto the ground, whining in pain.

"Is that all you got?" Rin said, his eyes narrowing.

"D-Demon!" He screamed, pointing his finger.

Rin shook his head, not giving it much thought anymore. He didn't care about someone such as Reiji Shiratori... such an idiot he was. Rin didn't care much about anyone and anything, really. When he arrived at the Monastery, he sighed, getting ready for the angry outburst from Shiro.

"O' straying lamb... confess thy sins with true sorrow and pray for forgiveness," Shiro muttered toward Rin as he looked at him up and down.

"Yeah, and why should I? I haven't done anything wrong..." Rin grit his teeth once again in annoyance.

"How did you get those cuts on your knuckles?" Shiro asked, staring at Rin into his normal human eyes.

"I tripped," Rin said, getting ready to head to his room.

"Your clothes are a mess."

"It was a real mother of a fall."

"Don't lie to me, Rin."

Rin sighed, not feeling like talking to his executioner if he ever found out that the sword had already been unsealed all these years.

"So what? The guy had it comin' anyway with his stupid face."

"Rin, you have to control your urges to fight. You're on the cusp of life and we won't be around forever, you need to man up and get a job like the rest of us."

Rin's eyes darkened and he turned away so that Shiro couldn't see his eyes change. "Don't tell me what to do," said Rin sharply.

"Rin," Shiro also sighed, giving up. "Yukio!"

A few seconds later, Yukio peeked his head around the hallway door. "Yeah, dad?"

"Bandage Rin up, he got into another fight."

"How many times do I have to tell you, Rin? you'll never be anything in life if you keep picking fights with everyone in town."

"I said, shut up!" Rin growled, his fangs showing up. Luckily, no one had seen them as he had been looking away from everyone. He controlled his flames enough not to show them when he got angry but right then, he wanted to burn the building to the ground because he was so irritated. Rin made sure his fangs weren't showing and turned toward both Shiro and Yukio, "I'll do what I want."

They thought he didn't have his demon powers yet but that didn't mean he had to be the innocent church boy who only wanted to do good. That definitely wasn't him and never would be. He didn't think he could even act like it.

They both sighed, sharing a look and that only made Rin fume as he turned his back on them again. Rin stood up, trying to go to his room again. "Wait, Rin, we have to bandage your knuckles."

Rin looked down at his knuckles and he smirked childishly where the cut would have been. It had already healed. "I don't need anything from you," said Rin and he walked out. Lunging on his bed, Rin fell asleep quickly... dreaming of the Monastery burning to the ground.

0o0

Rin woke up at the sound of muttering, his demonic hearing honing in on the words. It seemed that Shiro was exorcising something. He hated fatal verses, they made him itch all over. Rin waited until he saw Shiro leave before making his way outside to the front gate.

What he saw made his eyes widen. Shiratori was there with his gang but Rin grinned lightly when he could feel a presence inside of him. It was another demon, a powerful one at that. Rin began to realize that maybe this demon could help him so that he wouldn't have to stay with Shiro anymore.

Just being in that Monastery made him sting all over. Rin had his suspicions that Shiro had coated everything in holy water so that what came in, didn't get out alive.

"Okumura, my friend!" The demon in Shiratori's skin called. Rin had a feeling that whoever it was wanted him for something which meant that he would act just like Shiratori until he got what he wanted from him. Rin wasn't as inexperienced as he had been when he was younger. He had trained a lot to control his flames and become stronger, he didn't want to become like other demons and get exorcised. Rin looked at him questionably, "You have a second?" he asked.

"What's the matter, Okumura? Turn chicken on us?" One of Shiratori's goons asked.

"Don't tell me you want to run away and hide behind your daddy!" Another one.

Rin narrowed his eyes a little, Shiro wasn't his father. He didn't like when people insinuated that. He followed behind the gang, keeping an eye on the demon. If Rin could sense the demon, didn't that mean he must sense him in return?

They arrived at some gated place where a pit was burning some wood. "Sorry about yesterday, I was only playing with those pigeons but my hand slipped, see?" Rin looked at the demon and the demon stared back with dark eyes, "Anyway, I want to know how much you want...?"

"What?" Rin couldn't help but ask curiously.

"My parents are somewhat famous, you see and as for me, I'm about to enroll in True Cross Academy... so I don't want any unsavoury rumours swirling around."

Rin decided to play along, "You mean, you're going to the same prestigious school as Yukio? I see your problem."

"Now, you've got it! Consider it hush money, I'm buying your silence. You just have to keep this episode between you and me."

Rin snorted but spoke, "Wow, go right ahead but I want everything you have."

A look of surprise flickered on Shiratori's face but it went away as soon as it came. "Here, take the money... everyone knows that you're so poor and the only way your brother got into the school is by cramming like hell and gettin' a scholarship, right? I feel for you."

Rin snorted again and slowly started to chuckle until he was outright cackling. "That's right!" Rin shouted amused, "That brother of mine is too smart for me and that's why I hate his guts... well, not the only reason." Rin continued to laugh and ended up on his arse.

The demon only stared, not knowing whether to laugh with him or keep trying to provoke him. "Okumura, you are crazy!" One of Shiratori's goons said.

Rin looked up, a grin on his face and his fangs on full display. "I don't know... am I?" He laughed crazily.

The group ran like the wind until the only person left was the demon in a Shiratori meat suit. "You know yourself, don't you?" The demon said, "You made me act like this no good swine for nothing!"

"You just had the facts wrong, that's all," Rin said, looking at the demon as he fully transformed. Rin decided to let his glamour go as well and became the demon he had always been. His nails became sharper and black, his fangs became sharper and his ears became pointier. His small horns protruded on the top of his head and the ring of blue appeared. The only thing that wasn't on display at the moment was his tail which was wrapped around his stomach. Rin opened his eyes again after the transition and his eyes glowed blue with a ring of red surrounding it. "Why are you here?"

The demon kneeled, "Young Prince, my name is Astaroth and I've come to bring you back to our father. He has been looking for you for very long, it is time to reunite."

Rin's eyes widened and he swore that he felt something in his heart, "M-My father?"

"Yes, Lord Satan has long awaited you."

"S-Satan has?" He knew he had a demon father but Satan of all demons? Not that he minded, if that was the case then wouldn't he be a prince? A real damn prince?

Rin smirked, biting the tip of his sharp black nail but froze at the familiar voice, "Evil is in their hearts, O' Lord, give to them according to their works and the wickedness of their inventions. According to the works of their hands give thou to them: render onto them their reward. Thou shalt destroy them and shalt not build them up..." It was Shiro.

Rin's eyes widened, he was trying to exorcise Astaroth. "Curse those words! Damn you, exorcist!" Rin stood in front of the demon and he bit his nail hard enough to pierce his lip.

"What are you doing, Rin?!" Shiro shouted, looking at Rin as his demonic self. "Y-You, you didn't!"

Rin grinned, "I did... for a long time now, old man and you didn't know a single thing, did you? I pity you."

"Rin," Shiro's voice cracked but he continued on with the fatal verse, "Blessed be the Lord!"

"I'll rip that mouth of yours apart so that you can never utter such spells again!" Rin grabbed Astaroth by the arm and threw him back down on the ground as he charged at Shiro.

"This is not the time for foolish fighting, we have to leave! Are you dumb?!"

"You're right, my young prince! Let us hurry!"

"Rin, no!" Shiro shouted, but it was too late as they both jumped up on top of a building, leaving Shiro staring at their backs and wondering what in God's name he was going to do. The feeling of losing Rin made his heart weak and he froze as a dark feeling enveloped his body. It was Satan!

"N-No!"

"Yes...!" Satan grinned from ear to ear. "Finally, after years of trying to take this body, I've succeeded! I'm coming for you, my son!"

Chapter 3: III

Chapter Text

"Are you really telling the truth?" Rin asked, "Satan is my father?"

"Yes, your majesty. I'm your half-brother, the King of Rot."

"So, you're saying that you want me to go with you to meet Satan." Rin still couldn't get it through his head that— Satan of all demons— was his father.

"That is correct."

Rin let out a cackle and bounced up and down in childish glee. "This is the most fun I've had in ages!"

Astaroth stared at him, "You will get along swimmingly with Amaimon."

Rin tilted his head at the King of Rot, a sharp black nail half-way in his mouth as he bit down. "Amaimon? Hmm?"

"The King of Earth, also your half-brother."

"Hmm... I have a lot of brothers?"

"Well, there is me, Amaimon, Samael, who is the King of Time. Lucifer, who is the King of Light. Azazel, who is the King of Spirits. Egyn, who is the... well, you can call Egyn the King or Queen of Water. Iblis, King of Fire and Beelzebub, King of Insects."

"Wow, I didn't know I had so many siblings!" Rin exclaimed, "I'm going to ask you a question."

"Okay?"

"My twin brother—"

"No, he isn't coming!"

Rin stared at Astaroth in exasperation. "Did I finish? Bite my head off next time."

"Maybe I should."

Rin growled at Astaroth and oddly he backed away in a pout. "Oh, someone is a good little demon." Rin cooed.

"How dare you!"

"How dare I? How dare you, interrupting me like that. Shame on you. As I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted... is my twin brother considered Satan's son?"

"Of course not!" Astaroth growled, "He is a mere human."

"Awesome!"

They both widened their eyes when a presence invaded them. "Father!" Astaroth shouted.

"Father?" Rin whispered.

"I'm here for you, my young son!" That was when the figure of Father Fujimoto entered their vision. Rin snorted, laughing to himself at the utter weakness the priest had.

What could have possibly let Satan into the old man's body? All the same, Rin couldn't help it and a louder laugh bubbled out of him and into the cold air.

"What— you're so weak, old man... no wonder you hadn't figured out what I'd done." Rin sat down on the ground on top of the roof, breathing heavily as he gasped for breath. This day was turning out to be a hoot.

"Rin?" The remark was made from an incredulous Satan.

"What, don't tell me you didn't know either... I thought the King of all Demons knew everything?"

"If I could have come to get you I would have, boy! This stupid priest kept you from me. How?! How are you already awakened?!"

"Well, I found the sword when I was nine and broke it... end of the story." Rin said, looking at Satan with amusement in his eyes.

"Well, I had thought this would be harder..." Satan trailed off, "Didn't think my son had already grown up and had been doing evil deeds all along..."

"Anyway," Rin said, "I'm not going with you."

"What! What do you mean, you aren't going?" Satan and Astaroth exclaimed together.

"I'm not going. I want to go to that exorcist school..."

"Ex– Exorcist! Son, no. No, no, no, no. You can't, you are the prince of Gehenna. You can't possibly–!" Satan ranted.

"Would you calm down," Rin said, his eyes rolling, "I'm not going there to become an exorcist." Rin scowled at the thought, "I'm going there to get revenge. Yukio messed with the wrong person."

"What?" Satan asked.

"He lied to me and for that I need revenge, that's all."

"I see."

"What do you hope to accomplish with going to the exorcist school?" Astaroth asked, shaking his head.

"I want him to think that I'm still the same Rin he has seen all along and I want to be able to cause havoc for him. Later, I will finally put a lid on him for good." Rin smiled, "The thing is... the only way we are going to be able to do this is if you help me out."

"What? What do you want me to do?" Satan replied, eyes bleeding from the long possession. They wouldn't have much time left.

"We need to pretend like this isn't what I wanted and that you tried to drag me to Gehenna... but in doing so, Father Fujimoto dies. That would make Yukio be clouded by emotions and help me play along."

"What are we waiting for? I only have at least ten minutes left in this body."

The group of three made their way to the Monastery and put on a show that Rin was proud of. The scene ended with Rin fake crying on the ground, Astaroth and Satan exorcised and Shiro Fujimoto laying dead on the floor.

"Rin! What happened in here?" Yukio exclaimed.

Rin looked over with fake tears in his eyes, "The old man...!" He watched as Yukio looked around to find the other priests dead on the ground.

That was when Rin was given the silent treatment. Yukio didn't made a noise toward him all throughout the funeral and it was making Rin want to scratch the four-eyed mole face and be done with it.

Sadly, he wanted to play along and the only way that was going to happen was if he went to True Cross Academy with Yukio. Satan had told him that his brother Samuel would be there, he was the precept of the Japan Branch and to not trust him at all.

Rin decided that he wouldn't let Samael in on his plans. The only way he would do it is if Samael earned his trust and he highly doubted that. Maybe if he met Amaimon, Rin would tell him. Astaroth made it clear that he would get along great with the Earth King.

Rin turned around, sensing a presence and came face to face with a clown who had purple hair. After realizing that the aura around Astaroth was of a King, he realized that the demon in front of him must be a King as well. If Rin had to guess, he would say it was Samael.

"At last we meet!" Samael shouted grandly, a surprised expression across his face. He was probably wondering how Rin knew he was there. Rin thought about the sword and how he had broken it. If he hadn't broken it, would he not be able to sense these things? Rin scoffed internally. He couldn't think of it. "I am Mephisto Pheles, precept of the Japan Branch of the Nights of the True Cross. Father Fujimoto was a dear friend and my thoughts are with you in your time of sorrow."

"Are you all exorcists too?" Rin asked.

"I'm afraid we are, yes." Rin couldn't help the snort that found its way up his throat. A demon working as an exorcist? Samael was really something. "We know all about you. Father Fujimoto tried to raise you as a normal human child... unfortunately your true nature decided to poke its ugly little head out. Not to offend but having the son of satan running loose in Assiah? That's the whole of mankind in the worst jeopardy. Therefore, we are here in the name of the Vatican to exterminate you before you pop off again."

Did Samael really think Rin was going to be executed without a fight? His power was the best thing to ever happen to him and his brother was calling it ugly? Rin felt like breaking Samael in half but thought better of it. He could just play along and they wouldn't know a thing. "Hey, I thought you were going to offer me protection?!"

"Oh, that's personal, dear boy. This is business. Now then, you have two options to choose from. The first one is, we kill you and the second to try to kill us and run. Apologies! You also have the option of committing suicide... there, that's three."

Rin looked at Samael shrewdly, narrowing his eyes. "What if I don't want any of those options?"

"Well, dear boy," Samael's voice dropped an octave, "You have no other choice."

"I'm going with Yukio!" Rin shouted.

"Going with–!" Samael began but got cut off by Rin,

"You can even keep an eye on me!"

Samael seemed to pause for a second before nodding slowly, "Okay, maybe we can work something out. As long as you let a few exorcist's keep an eye on you throughout your stay."

There were a few protests behind Samael from the exorcist's but he waved them away, "Great! Hey, Yukio!"

Once again, Yukio ignored Rin as he stared down at the grave of his recently deceased father. "Mmhm, I will wait for you in the car. Don't be too long, will you?" Samael told Rin.

Rin nodded and walked over to Yukio. "Yukio! We have to go. Mephisto Pheles wants us to go with him."

Yukio still didn't grace Rin with a response. The only thing that gave Rin the idea that he was listening was when he turned and walked in the direction of the vehicle.

Rin rolled his eyes. Yukio thought he had the right to be mad at him? His twin had been lying to him his whole life and the mole face thinks he can ignore him?

He just sighed and followed the bastard to the car before getting in and staring off in the distance as the car made its way to True Cross Academy.

Chapter 4: IV

Chapter Text

Rin glanced at Samael who was across from him and realized that the demon king was staring at him in return. He seemed to have a confused and curious expression on his face and Rin thought for a second...

He didn't have the sword so maybe the demon king knew he had his full power? There wasn't anything he could do about it anyway, he just hoped that the king stayed out of his way or he wouldn't be responsible for what he would do.

"Here is an extra uniform you can use," Samael began, "I will give you a tour of True Cross Academy and hopefully you will get along with everyone..."

Rin rolled his eyes, that was the demon's way of telling him not to use his flames on the grounds... he could do whatever the hell he wanted. If he wanted to burn someone to ashes, he sure as hell would.

"Whatever..." Rin muttered quietly, taking the uniform and leaving it next to him on the seat. He smirked and decided to play with the two, "Hey, do you guys have a brush...? My tail's fur seems to have a mind of its own." The remark was met with silence before Yukio turned to him with a glare.

"Oh?" Samael frowned and Rin knew immediately that the king didn't expect him to bring up his demonic ancestry at the moment.

"Yeah, I'd like to brush it a little... would you mind?" Rin grinned a little, looking Samael in the eyes.

"Oh, of course... Eins! Zwei! Drei!" A small brush appeared in Samael's hand and Rin reached out to take it with amusement.

"Thank you, brother," Rin said quietly, low enough that Yukio couldn't hear.

Samael's eyes widened and then narrowed, "I... see..."

Rin held the brush before taking out his tail, watching as Samael followed the movement and then began to brush the sensitive tail. Rin wouldn't admit it but the feeling was actually very pleasant.

Yukio didn't meet Rin's eyes the entire time his tail was out and thereafter. On the other hand, Samael's eyes didn't stray from him.

"What are you planning?" Samael whispered so that only Rin could hear.

Rin only smirked, "Nothing much..."

They arrived at the Academy, exiting the car and began their walk up to the school. Yukio split off, leaving Rin and Samael together alone.

"What are you up to?" Samael shot out after he left.

"I don't know what you mean...? The only reason I took out my tail was because I wanted to know if Yukio had known all along and judging by his reaction, I'd say he did."

"How did you know we were related?"

"Well, you can blame that on Astaroth, he shared lots and lots before he was exorcised. I couldn't get him to stop blabbing..." Rin sighed, innocently scratching his head.

"Lots and lots?" Samael began, obviously wanting to know what the demon had told Rin.

"Oh, like who all the demon king's are and stuff like that..." Rin said, grinning, "Nothing to worry your head over."

"You do know that in an event that you use your flames, I'll have no choice but to tell the Vatican."

"Hmm, so is this rule applied to Amaimon as well? Astaroth told me that he visited you a lot... does that mean that he can't use his abilities?"

Samael narrowed his eyes again, "I see, he told you more than you ought to know. You must have had a cozy chat..."

"Oh, nothing like that... before Shiro showed up to exorcise Astaroth, he just wouldn't shut up and we were there for probably a half an hour with him and his mouth just going on and on and on and on and on..."

"And you didn't once try to escape?"

"I was fully human then, what did you expect me to do, run?" Rin laughed loudly, unknowingly biting his nail that wasn't black at the moment, "Self preservation is a thing, elder brother."

Samael shook his head, "Well, as it is dark out now, we will continue your tour tomorrow."

"Yeah..." Rin said, "The school ceremony is tonight, right?"

"It sure is!" Samael rose his arms in a grand gesture and Rin rolled his eyes in exasperation.

"Is this what I have to put up with now? A very over the top clown?"

Samael shot him a glower, "I am not a clown, thank you very much."

"No, you're the demon king of time..." Rin muttered, whistling innocently.

"I'm going to kill Astaroth..." Rin heard Samael mutter underneath his breath and he couldn't help but chuckle.

-

"Hey, Yukio! Aren't you glad that you have me here with you?" Rin asked Yukio in mock excitement, giving him a fake smile.

Yukio looked at him for a second before walking past him and out the door of their dormitory, completely ignoring him.

Rin clicked his tongue and rolled his eyes before following his so-called brother out of the room and to the gymnasium.

Rin was lost in his thoughts for a second and lost sight of Yukio in the crowd. He grumbled and made his way to a seat amongst the sea of humans. Rin didn't see the human in himself so he had decided to classify himself as fully non-human. He didn't want to be human anyway as they were weak. He didn't look one bit human anyway when he rid himself of the glamour. Why would he lump himself with the fragile humans of the world?

Rin sighed and looked up at the stage, "Meet your freshman class representative, Yukio Okumura!" His eyes widened and he watched as Yukio stood up from the crowd.

"Yes, sir!"

Rin wasn't surprised per se. He knew that his four eye mole-faced brother was a nerd but he didn't realize how much of a nerd he was to get the top score in their grade.

"To be able to join you at True Cross, a school I have long admired is something that is both thrilling and sobering," Yukio said once he was on the stage.

Rin scoffed and rolled his eyes. The only thing his brother wanted to do was murder demons. Some in which were minding their own business and suddenly attacked for being who they were.

It made Rin angry just thinking about it.

"I urge you all to study hard, be diligent and live up to the standards of this special place. I'm your freshman class rep, Yukio Okumura."

--

Rin watched as girls hit on his brother the next morning and nearly broke his neck at the disgusting display.

He immediately knew that Yukio thought he didn't know about him being an exorcist and Rin couldn't wait to surprise him in the classroom. He wouldn't even be surprised about the fact that Yukio may even be an instructor for the Knights of the True Cross.

He felt disgust in himself just for the very thought that if he hadn't known anything about his heritage and hadn't discovered it years ago, he would have believed that Yukio was just an ordinary student and not an exorcist out to kill demons that included him.

He would have been in the dark for everything.

Though, he was surprised by the decor and how big the school was. It was all new to him after all, to see such extravagance.

Rin made his way around the school, exploring the rooms in curiosity. He looked down and raised an eyebrow when he saw a white dog with a pink and white bowtie walk up to him, wagging its tail. Rin couldn't help but laugh.

"You're a dog, brother?" He cackled, his blue eyes showing amusement. The dog narrowed its eyes and hit Rin in the leg with its tail, "Okay, okay, you want me to follow you, right?"

Rin followed Samael outside and into a courtyard. He watched as his elder brother appeared from a burst of pink smoke.

"Pardon me, but it would be unseemly for the director of the academy to be caught prowling around the halls during the day." Samael looked down with a smirk and Rin realized that his brother believed he would be surprised by what he had done.

Rin could only smirk himself, "You do realize that shape-shifting is not that surprising, right? I am a raven myself, after all."

"What?!" Samael shouted, his head snapping toward Rin, "You mean, you can shape-shift already?"

Rin shook his head, "You haven't seen anything yet..."

Samael sighed, "Well, I already know I won't get any information from you so here..." Samael threw a key toward Rin and he immediately caught it, "That key grants access to the cram school through any door at any time. I have a feeling I'm going to regret letting you participate in cram school."

Rin couldn't help the blood thirsty expression that crossed his face, "Oh elder brother, you wound me so..." He said, placing his hand to his chest in mock hurt.

Samael narrowed his eyes at Rin but couldn't help the excitement that filled his body. At least it wouldn't be boring from now on, "Though regular school don't start until next week, cram school starts today. Follow me..." He started to walk towards a door but turned around, "Oh, it would be best if you kept the whole demon, son of Satan thing confidential, yes? Say what you want about your ears, fangs and tail but the flames are a no, no. Control yourself."

"No offence bro but don't tell me what to do. If I want to burn a human, I'll burn a human," Rin smiled, letting his blue flamed horns show on his head, "Not that I'd actually do that, you know?" He finished with an innocent smile.

Samael, even though this would cause a lot of trouble for him, couldn't help but wonder how this would play out. If he really liked what Rin had planned, he wouldn't even stop his younger brother from what he would do. After all, family for demons were loyal to each other.

Some had Samael already figured out and if it were anyone else, he would have already stepped in and had Rin executed but, sadly, this was his youngest brother. Even if Rin wanted to burn the entire world, Samael didn't think he would interfere. In fact, he would probably join Rin which was unlike him.

Samael couldn't wait to see the look on Yukio's face when he found out that Rin knew more than he thought possible.

Like he thought before, at least it wouldn't be boring from now on.

"Hello, Samael? Are you in there?" Rin playfully knocked on Samael's head with a grin on his face.

"Yes, I was lost in thought there. Let's go then, shall we? I can't wait to see how this all plays out."

"I'm sure you can't," Rin couldn't help but mutter, yawning as he bared his fangs. He bit his long nail and looked at Samael lazily, "When can I meet Amaimon?"

Chapter Text

"Open that door with the key I gave you..."

Rin nodded, looking down at the key before putting into the key slot and turning it. He opened the door and grinned when he saw a long skinny hallway, "Yay! I'll have lots of fun here! This hallway goes on forever," Rin shouted, his hand over his forehead looking around excitedly.

"Hm, you would definitely get along with Amaimon no problem."

"Hey, that's what Astaroth said!" Rin exclaimed, a wide-fanged smile on his face.

"You've spoken to him more than you've let on... regardless, let us go to the classroom. The freshman class is in room 1106. This way..." Samael said, walking down the long hallway.

Rin followed behind him, thinking in his mind whether or not he should really trust Samael with everything. He knew that if even his father, Satan, didn't trust Samael, he shouldn't trust his brother either. Though, Rin was beginning to have second thoughts as his older brother's reactions were so hilarious.

Rin didn't believe that Samael would say or do anything to upset him in any way or to stop his plans but he had to be sure. Even Rin knew that asking Samael wouldn't give him the entire truth but maybe he'd do it for a trade of information.

"Wait..." Rin said, stopping Samael in his tracks. Rin narrowed his eyes at his older brother, "I don't usually become serious because it takes too much effort and it makes me annoyed afterwards but I have no choice..."

"Yes?" Samael asked, curious about what his youngest brother would say.

"I need to know your plans. I need to know if whatever I do here, you won't interfere."

Samael looked at him, his own eyes narrowing, "What are your plans?"

"I can't tell you unless I know I can trust you," Rin said, his fangs biting one of his nails.

"You have my word. You may not understand demon etiquette yet but in our family, our word is everything. You can trust me, we are family," Samael told him with a smile.

Rin looked at Samael closely, "I feel like I can trust you but father made it clear that you were not to be trusted."

Samael's smile twitched and he turned to Rin with a wide-eyed expression, "What do you mean father told you? You mean father as in Satan?"

Rin winced at his slip of the tongue but nodded, "Who else would I be talking about?"

Samael scrunched his eyebrows up, "Shiro Fujimoto, of course."

"That man? That old fart can rot in his grave for all I care, I hated him. All he did was keep secrets from me along with my 'precious' twin brother," Rin complained, using his hands as quotation marks.

"Hm, I see. This has become somewhat of a conundrum. I believed that you considered Fujimoto as a father and that you were on good terms with your brother, at least a little. Why do you want to become an exorcist then?"

Rin grinned evilly, his blue eyes turning dark and narrowing, "I want to torment Yukio until he cannot take it any longer and then I will kill him when he least expects it."

Samael shook his head, not entirely believing what was right in front of him but it was all true. His youngest brother was worthy of the throne of Gehenna in regards to his personality at least. Now he just wanted to see how Rin could control his powers.

When he did, he would trust Rin knew what he was doing and he would not interfere with his brother's plan unless the boy jeopardized his school.

Samael repeated what he was thinking and nodded at Rin, "Just as long as you give me a show, that's all I care about," he told Rin.

They both grinned at each other.

Rin's grin widened, "Don't think I haven't forgot about you, brother."

Samael's eyes widened, "Who, little ol' me?"

"What were you planning to do if I were the naive boy that you thought I was?"

Samael smirked and gave Rin a dark look, "I would have tested you, of course. Put you into dangerous situations to make you stronger to defeat Satan. Your naive-self wouldn't have suspected me to be the mastermind at all. Though, you do not want to defeat father, do you?"

"Of course not. I have every intention of succeeding father's throne just as he wanted it. Once I'm done with Yukio, I'm out of here straight to Gehenna."

"I see. Well then, you can finally lower the ward."

Rin raised an eyebrow, "How did you know I put up a silencing ward?"

"Trust me, I wouldn't have said nearly as much to you if we were speaking about this where everyone can hear us, at least give me some credit. Though, I was very surprised to know that you knew how to make a ward."

"It's not that hard. I just use some of my flames to create a barrier where nobody can hear us. Since I can make my flames transparent, nobody will see them."

"We have a lot more to talk about. Anyways, we've probably missed the first half of your class already with us out here. Let's go."

"I think I already know who I am going to see teaching this class..." Rin sighed, shaking his head, "There's no way that Yukio is still a student after so many years of studying at a young age."

Samael glanced a Rin with a grin on his face, "I should have known that you'd figure that out already. We're here."

Rin sighed, looked at Samael with a bored look and opened the door to see Yukio at the front desk with a teaching stick in his hand. Yukio turned to looked at him and raised an eyebrow, "Where have you been, Mr. Okumura? Oh and Sir Pheles."

"There's no problem, Mr. Okumura and I were taking a tour and we lost track of time. It's my fault we are late," Samael said, looking at Yukio innocently.

"Y-Yukio?" Rin exclaimed in confusion, looking around the classroom, "What are you doing teaching? What is this?"

Samael quickly shot his head towards Rin, watching his youngest brother act and nearly cackled inwardly.

"We can talk after class, Mr. Okumura."

"What? Come on Yukio, talk to me!"

Rin watched as Yukio took a deep breath and glared at him, "Sorry class, would everyone please step out and wait in the hall, there is something that I need to discuss with Mr. Okumura in private."

Rin waited till everyone left the room besides Samael, who was watching everything by the door with a sparkle in his eyes.

"Well, we're alone, if you want to ask me something, this is your chance," Yukio said, looking at Rin darkly.

"Would you knock it off, just drop the act. I want to know what's going on!" Rin shouted and Samael snorted quietly, knowing full well that Rin was the one doing the acting.

"Well you heard the man, explain away," Samael cut in to Yukio, going along with Rin.

"I became an exorcist 2 years ago and when I was 7, I started training to become one, right after dad suggested it."

Even if Rin already know, it just made him all the more angrier hearing it again, "You mean, you've known about the work he'd been doing? You'd known this whole time?"

"I did. You were the only who didn't know, Rin."

Rin nearly decapitated Yukio then and there but thought better of his actions. He didn't want it to be over so soon, he wanted to torture Yukio, "Why didn't you say anything before, answer me Yukio!" Rin made sure to knock the hobgoblin vial on the floor to release them as he man-handled Yukio and waited until they entered the classroom. Yukio jumped back in surprise as the vial dropped.

Rin sensed two hobgoblins behind him and waited to see if Yukio would shoot them and when he did, he smirked inwardly.

"Those are hobgoblins, Rin and now that we've riled the up, there's going to be more. Why don't you go wait outsid-?"

"But, I'm not done yet!" Rin watched as Yukio shot every hobgoblin in sight and apologized inwardly to Amaimon as they were his kin, "All these years, all that time, what did you think of me?"

"What did I think of you? That should be obvious... I mean you are a demon, aren't you? As far as I was concerned, you were a threat," Rin stilled and narrowed his eyes because hearing it from them a long time ago and hearing Yukio say it to his face made it all clear to him. He was nothing to his twin brother and he had no other reservations when it came to the death of Yukio, not that he had any in the first place, "You still are... my god you're such an idiot and it's a mystery to me why you even want to become an exorcist. Maybe it's because you want to wipe away all of the guilt you have of dad's death. If that's really how you feel, then you should surrender to the Knights of the True Cross, better yet, you should just die."

"You think it's my fault the old man died? Is that it?"

"Would I be wrong if I did?"

'No, but you don't need to know that, hehe.'

"Dad was protecting you the whole time, even I knew that," Yukio shouted at him, "If Dad had a weakness, I'd say it was you," he finished with a gun to Rin.

Rin watched as a huge hobgoblin appeared behind Yukio and he smirked inwardly, "Maybe I am an idiot, say what you want but we're brothers, don't you point that gun at me!" Rin waited until the hobgoblin got a little further near Yukio before he lit himself on fire with his blue flames, "We're brothers!"

It would nearly happen and Rin watched as the hobgoblin took a bite out of Yukio's shoulder and he screamed, turned around to encounter the hobgoblin behind him. Rin saw him shoot the goblin in the head four times before it disappeared and he glanced at Samael who had a delighted expression on his face as he watched everything play out.

"Yukio!" Rin shouted, running towards his twin brother.

"Stay away!" Yukio shouted, walking to the door and opening it, "Sorry but the rest of the class today is cancelled. Please go over everything we've talked about today." Yukio gave Rin one last narrowed glance before walking out to the infirmary as the rest of class also left in confusion.

"That was quite a show, youngest brother."

"I do my best," Rin grinned, holding another hobgoblin in his hand and rubbing his cheek up against it, "Aren't you a little cutie, yes, yes you are," Rin said sweetly to the hobgoblin as Samael watched on, amused.

-_-

Eyes as black as coal looked around True Cross Academy, its sun-lit dark blue feathers ruffling in boredom.

"Honestly, I never thought I'd be speaking to a bird in broad daylight," Samael stated, his hands up and waving in exasperation.

The raven cawed to the general public but gave Samael a sharp look, "What do you want, brother?"

"Well, I have a lot of things I want but for now, could you please follow me? I don't feel like being labeled as insane by the residents of True Cross Academy," Samael glanced at a couple staring at him and placed a hand up to his eyes, wiping away tears dramatically.

The bird cawed in humour, "Too late for that... come on then." Rin flew over to an alleyway of the town, looking behind him to see Samael keeping pace, swinging his umbrella back and forth in circles.

He gathered his power and formed his body quickly, transforming from his raven form into his vessel.

Samael raised an eyebrow as he watched this happen and Rin looked at him, his blue eyes lit up in curiosity, "So, what's so interesting that you came to find me?" Rin tilted his head.

"Amaimon wants to see you, of course!"

Chapter 6: VI

Chapter Text

"Amaimon really wants to see me?" Rin exclaimed excitedly with a beaming grin.

"Unfortunately..." Samael muttered.

"Well, hurry up! I have to see what all the fuss is about... is he really like me?"

Samael rolled his eyes, "Unfortunately..." repeating himself.

Rin trailed behind Samael, his eyes twinkling with anticipation and a bounce to his steps. They came upon the door to Samael's office and the elder demon opened the door.

Rin slowly peered around the door, moving his eyes around the room to spot his other brother. When his gaze met green, a staring contest ensued.

Samael looked between the pair, holding his breath.

Stare...

Stare...

Stare...

All of a sudden, they both ran at each other. Rin had blue flames in his left hand and Amaimon had his fist curled, ready to plant it on Rin's face. As soon as both punches landed, they immediately flew back into opposite walls.

The wall crumbled and both Rin and Amaimon shifted off the floor and started to stare at each other again.

Rin's lip twitched.

Amaimon shoved his hand into his pocket and took out a lollipop, placing it into his mouth with a tiny smirk.

They both walked over to the middle of the room and Rin's lips finally formed into a wide grin.

They tackled each other playfully.

Samael stared at them, a deep breath releasing from his mouth before shaking his head with a sigh.

It was completely ridiculous how alike those two were... completely ridiculous.

"Yay, a mini me!" Amaimon exclaimed from the ground with Rin on top of him about to punch him.

Rin only cackled as Amaimon reached into his pants pocket and revealed another lollipop, throwing it at his newest brother.

Samael's eyes widened as he watched Amaimon share. This was truly a grand day. Amaimon didn't share, especially his candy. It was a miracle within itself to see the green demon bonding so much with Rin.

Rin and Amaimon both stopped and sat on the ground next to each other as Rin plopped the lollipop in his mouth.

"Do you want to play again later?" Amaimon asked Rin, his head tilted.

Rin grinned, swirling the lollipop from one side to the other, "Yeah, is there a place here where we can go all out?" Rin asked Samael, his own head tilted.

Samael's sweat dropped, staring at the two on the floor. These two were identical. Surely, there must have been a mistake with Rin being Yukio's twin brother. Rin was the complete opposite of Yukio. It was simply amazing how much Rin and Amaimon had in common.

It just didn't make sense, he mused.

Rin raised an eyebrow at Samael and the elder demon nodded, "Yes, there's a place you can go but it's not in Assiah. It takes mere seconds to get to Gehenna through the gate and the time works slightly different there, so you could go to Gehenna for a week but only a day would pass in Assiah."

Rin's eyes sparkled, "Seriously? That's awesome! Come on, can we go now? Can we? Can we? Can we?" Rin's exclaimed, grinning at Samael.

"Can we? Can we? Can we?" Amaimon chanted with Rin behind Samael's shoulder and the elder demon dramatically dropped to the ground, tears of frustration coming from his eyes.

"There's TWO of them!" Samael cried.

///

"Hey, where are you going?" Rin asked as Yukio began to put on his coat.

"I got called, I also have to get some supplies... I won't be gone long..." Yukio said quietly.

Yukio had finally started talking to him but it was usually when he needed to or when he was forced to do it.

"You got called for an exorcism?" Rin asked curiously, "I'm coming with you! I can learn way more by watching you, then reading about it in some book!"

I can also sabotage him as much as I can...

"But you're still just a page, Rin. I'm sorry but they don't allow trainees out in the field."

"Don't give me that! What the hell do they know about anything anyway? I'm already field tested..."

"You have a point... okay, but only to watch. If you get killed, you should just die."

I'm really feeling the love... Rin thought sarcastically to himself.

"I knew you'd see it my way," Rin exclaimed.

"You have to do what I tell you and don't do anything without checking with me first."

"I got it, Yukio. Loud and clear..." Yukio used a key on the door and they both appeared on top of a bridge. Rin could slightly make out a house at the end of the bridge with a bunch of trees, "Wow, this is so high up!"

Once they stopped at the end of the bridge, Yukio turned around, "Okay, you have to wait here while I go get the supplies."

"I want to go too."

"No, the store is for exorcists and higher ups only. I won't be long..."

Rin scoffed to himself and kicked a pebble across the ground as he watched Yukio walk up the stairs and into a building. As soon as there was no sign of Yukio, Rin grinned and walked up the steps slowly.

He narrowed his eyes at the gate, feeling something powerful coming from it. Rin assumed it was to keep demons out. He looked over to see a girl kneeling in the soil and had no choice but to open the gate himself.

As soon as he touched the gate, a shock emanated from it, making the gate completely crash to the ground.

The girl turned with a terrified expression on her face and Rin smirked inwardly. He really liked that expression.

"D-Demon!" The girl cried, trying but failing to back away from him.

Rin narrowed his eyes again and could tell immediately that a demon had been tampering with her legs making her unable to walk.

"Who are you calling a demon?!" Rin exclaimed, walking up to her.

"That gate has a spell to keep out demons..."

"Well, I'm not a demon, got that?" The words hurt for Rin to say, honestly.

The girl finally calmed down and introduced herself as Shiemi Moriyama. Rin decided to get along with her for now. He sat as Shiemi talked about how her grandmother may have went to the Garden of Amahara when she passed away and Rin nodded as she continued to tell her story.

To be frank, Rin had no interest in her at all. This was a means to an end. It would all be worth it when he finally got revenge.

"Rin! I can't let you leave my sight for a second!" Yukio exclaimed as he walked down the steps with another woman. Rin assumed it was Shiemi's mother, "What are you doing here?"

"Hey, Yukio!"

"Shiemi, come on, let him have a look at your legs," the woman said.

"But, mom! I told you, I haven't been infected!"

"It's just a precaution. If I don't find anything, it'll be no different, right? Will you let me have a look?"

Shiemi nodded hesitantly.

Rin raised an eyebrow, watching everything play out. He'd already sensed the demon that had took ahold of her.

"It's okay..." Yukio said as he inspected Shiemi's legs, "It's a root... a temptaint. A demon caused this..."

"She's not possessed, is she?" The woman asked, terrified.

Rin laughed inwardly.

"No, she's definitely not possessed. The demon that did this is not strong enough to possess a human. This looks like the work of a Greenman. They are low level demons that possess grass or trees. One of them reached through the soil to Shiemi's leg and is feeding off her soul. The demon is somewhere in this garden."

Rin frowned, knowing that the low level demon was of Amaimon's kin. The green demon wouldn't be very well pleased to know that one of his kin was exorcised by Yukio.

Rin muttered lowly under his breath so that nobody else but the other demon in the garden could hear, "You are of Amaimon's kin, correct?"

The low-level demon didn't take very long to reply, "I am. What is a demon such as yourself doing with an exorcist?"

"That's my problem. If you don't leave, Yukio will exorcise you. Listen, it's better to leave and find someone else. At least you won't be near any exorcists, right? You'll have another chance to steal someone else's soul."

The low-level demon was quiet for a second before finally answering, "You have a point, I guess. I could definitely find someone else but I've already invested so much time into her and I've nearly finished..."

"I'm only telling you the truth. You can either stay and be exorcised or leave and start anew with someone else far away from any exorcists."

It was quiet again for a second before, "I see. I will leave but I will need a couple minutes to release my hold on her."

Rin turned to look at Yukio, "Are you sure it's a demon? It could be some kind of worm that went into her leg..."

"Rin, if you're going to be an exorcist, you need to know these things! Now, I'm going to start the process of exorcising the demon..."

Rin frowned, stood up and started smashing the pots to distract everyone.

"Rin! What are you doing? Why are you smashing Shiemi's pots?"

"Stop, please stop!" Shiemi shouted at Rin as he continued to break the pots.

Rin turned around, knowing immediately that the low-level demon had escaped, "Phew..." he wiped his forehead, "...there were a bunch of bugs swarming the place!"

Shiemi looked down, feeling different. She began to be amazed as she stood up on her feet. Yukio's jaw dropped. He had been sure it was a demon.

Maybe it fled because it knew?

Rin looked around the garden and then up at the sky. Amaimon owed him for this. He didn't even get to torment Yukio.

At least Yukio didn't get to exorcise a demon.
