quacky wacky

Summary:

sabito and giyuu go to the nearest 7-11 for some late-night snacks but sabito just insists on wearing his fucking toddler shoes.

Notes:

original post from @/julebug123 on tumblr: "guys a few days ago i saw these two guys that were both probably in their early twenties at the store at like nine o'clock in the night and one of them was wearing these fuzzy duck sandals that quacked loudly every time he took a step and his friend was pacing away from him as fast as he could going "i don't know you. we are not friends." while the other laughed hysterically about his duck shoes"

Work Text:

giyuu loved sabito. he loved his fuzzy peach hair, the crinkle of his eyes when he smiled and even the old scar that ran across half of his face. giyuu loved sabito, but sometimes his boyfriend acts like a fucker on crack and does questionable shit. like right now, holding hands with giyuu without a care in the world-

-in his god-awful duck sandals, which are cute if they don't quack with every step he takes.

"sabito-"

"ewaak ewaac"

"do you want to-"

"ewaak"

"stock up on-"

"ewaak ewaac ewaee"

"the coffee- sabito stop walking for the love of god-" giyuu stops to stare at his boyfriend, a beautiful and annoying fucker he loves despite the latter's unique charms. sabito knows this too and instead of listening to giyuu, obviously enjoying the exasperation on his boyfriend's face a little too much, he walks around in circles and looks straight into giyuu's eyes as if to challenge the man to take off the sandals himself. giyuu was at his wit's end, he looks into the soulless beady eyes of the duck before he finally decides that it's almost 9 pm and he's too tired to deal with sabito's shit. so what if people stared? it's sabito wearing the sandals, not him.

they reach the 7-11 and giyuu beelines straight for the microwaveables, all the while chanting "i don't know you, we are not friends" under his breath repeatedly like a mantra. sabito follows behind and god please help poor giyuu, the duck sandals are quacking the whole way and he is so, so close to snapping. the pair pass by another tired college kid and giyuu locks eyes with them, with all the energy he could muster, he looks at them dead in the eyes, "i don't know this guy, why is he wearing toddler shoes anyway?"

sabito stops, he processed before he finally let out his rambunctious laughter. he knew giyuu hated his squeaky slippers but he wore them anyway because dear giyuu, you are such a joy to tease. sabito watches as giyuu trudged on ahead, his shoulders slumping a little from fatigue. it really hurt to see the man like that, sabito has woken up in the ungodly hours of the night, only to see giyuu still clacking away on his computer, refusing to go to bed even with sabito dragging him by force. giyuu was tired beyond belief, and he looked like he was going to pull another all-nighter today as well. there was nothing much sabito could do except offer to help giyuu carry snacks, and annoy him a little, just enough to keep his mind off from the stress of college.

giyuu was deep in thought, deciding between froot loops or honey stars when-

"ewaak ewaac ewak"

he looks back enough to see sabito waddling up towards him, which was undoubtedly cute if he wasn't alone on the aisle and truthfully sabito looks like a serial killer on the loose gaining on him. giyuu let him because honestly, he loves sabito and if sabito wants to be a murderer, giyuu was sure as hell going to support his boyfriend wholeheartedly.

but why am i your first victim? he wonders as tosses both the honey stars and froot loops into the basket, throwing in more coffee as he made his way to the counter.

"giyuu get something of more substance! you can't live with 10 cans of coffee and cereal!"

"seriously!" sabito huffs, tossing in riceballs and muffins, "you'll die in less than a week if i wasn't watching your diet!"

"un," giyuu hums, already walking out with the supplies in tow.

they walk back hand-in-hand, well not really since they were holding the flimsy little bag at each handle and swinging it around like five-year-olds.

sabito looked over to giyuu who was laughing at one of his shitty puns, and boy did the view take his breath away. giyuu was so pretty it was almost godly, he didn't tie up his hair tonight so it flowed freely in the breeze while it's shadows danced over his ocean eyes. his long eyelashes fluttered open and revealed the glimmering sparkle in them, like the stars that shone on the milky way. sabito wondered if this was the same crybaby giyuu with snot all over his face from his childhood; the crybaby that grew up to be this beautiful man that stood in front of him today, his giyuu.

god it that was so soppy-

"sabito?"

"yeah?"

"i love you"

giyuu was looking at him, the softest smile on his face. giyuu wasn't so dense to not realise the reason sabito had followed along for snack shopping today. sabito was always the more attentive one, always looking out for giyuu and taking care of him. and giyuu was truly, truly grateful for all of that, having sabito in his life for good really did wonders. after his sister left him to join their parents in the afterlife, giyuu felt so alone, so guilty; some days he wondered why god would separate him from his family like this. when sabito came along, he wasn't too enamoured by the peach haired boy. the kid who was always telling him to "be a man" whenever he cried truly felt like a nuisance then. but on the days when giyuu felt the weight of the world holding him down, suffocating him, sabito would stay by his side and hold his hand, telling giyuu that "it's might not be okay today, it might not be okay tomorrow, or even in ten years. but you will feel get past this like how you got past yesterday". some days it got better, some days it got worse, but sabito never left his side even then. and just like that, they grew up all the while showing their love quietly.

tonight was another quiet night for giyuu and sabito. they don't know what the future will bring but they will go through it like always, their hands and hearts entwined in each other.
