The Way We Fit

Summary:

Jeon Jungkook thinks it's fascinating how different him and Hoseok are,
in fact he finds that he can't stop thinking about it at all.

Notes:

Ok so! First of all I don't write a lot, and I'm a little insecure about this but I decided to be brave and join this Hopekook Bingo!! This completes the Opposites Attract square.
Sorry if there are any mistakes since English isn't my first language and I don't have a beta reader.
Very short and sweet, I hope you enjoy it!

Work Text:

Maybe it started when the others had started pointing things out. He had never believed you could change the way you saw someone after knowing them for so long. But this had happened without him realizing it.

‘Your noses are total opposites’ Namjoon had laughed one day while they played one of those silly games they had to do for a Run episode. Jungkook had laughed with him, but even a few days later, he found himself wondering how they would fit against each other, smiling at the thought.

After that day, the thought had started creeping back to his mind more often than he liked to admit. Something about Hoseok’s small eyes and wide mouth had Jungkook staring at him with his own wide eyes and pouty mouth, and the older one would always smile at him and wrap his slender body against Jungkook’s strong and firm one.

‘Hyung! Don’t you think we look funny together?’ Jungkook asked Hoseok one day, as he back hugged him. Staring at their figures in front of a mirror in the changing room they were currently getting ready at. ‘Funny how?’ Hoseok had asked mindlessly, staring down at his phone, clearly not paying any attention. Jungkook just buried his face in the crook of the older’s neck, smiling and shaking the thought out of his head.

He thought of how he used to shy away from these shows of physical affection, but was so very quick to pour his heart out when he felt safe. And how Hoseok always found comfort in the closeness and warmth of others, but found it a bit harder to put feelings into words, especially the closer they were to his heart. Somehow they found each other in the middle. Jungkook felt the need to feel his warmth and cuddle against him more often than not. While in the past he might have felt shy about this, he had grown to be a much more confident person, thanks to his members, no doubt. He liked to be the one who left Hoseok speechless at times. At some point Hoseok had joked about it, wondering why the “big puppy” was so cuddly now. Jungkook had smiled and taken the opportunity, ‘I just really like hyung’ and of course said hyung had let out one of his flustered laughs, cooing at the younger. Warmth spreading through Jungkook.

He had also started noticing how their closets were practically day and night. Jungkook loved Hoseok’s choice of brightness and accessories, found it fascinating and brave. While he himself felt most comfortable wrapped in one -usually dark- color in which he could drown. Or the way their music, both the one they listened to and the one they created, was so different, each of them using it to express themselves so differently. Hoseok often expressed his love for Jungkook’s music and Jungkook found himself practically bewitched by Hoseok’s art, so different that Jungkook could only wonder how his thought process worked, making him want to work harder on his own stuff and try different approaches to it.

He loved the contrast of his smooth voice against the other’s raspy one, his round features compared to Hoseok’s sharp ones. He liked the electricity he felt when they harmonized on stage, or danced together. The way it just clicked in the best of ways. Jungkook felt like they could communicate much better just through the looks of absolute delight they shared on stage.

There was something so fascinating about the way they fit perfectly against each other, while seeming to come from the very ends of opposite worlds. It made him smile, because they filled each other with what the other needed, so naturally, without even realizing.

But ever since Jungkook had started to realize, he couldn’t let it go. A huge feeling he liked to think was admiration grew in him. He wanted to be the best. The best version of himself so he could stand proudly by Hoseok.

He found himself one day cuddled against Hoseok in their living room, mindlessly running his fingers through the other’s hair. As usual, Hoseok immediately started melting, humming and closing his eyes. And Jungkook felt that sense of pride once again. He thought he was probably the luckiest person in the world at that moment. Hoseok ended up falling asleep, and Jungkook covered him in the blanket he had been using. They had been watching a movie, although Jungkook had been so deep in thought, the poor movie was just playing as background noise. He stared down at his hyung, already starting to drool a bit, which made Jungkook chuckle. Without thinking, he ran his finger down the other’s pretty nose, smiling to himself. They really were opposites. That night he had helped Hoseok go back to his and Jimin’s room, the older wishing him a goodnight in between yawns, and Jungkook went to bed thinking of how much warmer it had been on the couch.

He kept thinking about that moment for a while after that. Innocently thinking he just wanted to see how perfectly their noses fit against each other, how funny it would look. And so one day while they cuddled as usual, lazy and tired in Hoseok’s bed, where Jungkook liked being the most, feeling bliss wrapped in the other’s smell and warmth, he found himself holding the other’s face and pulling him close to his own. Just as he had imagined, their noses fit in the funniest way and as he started laughing, about to explain his sudden action, he felt Hoseok’s lips against his.

He blinked.

Big eyes staring at the older’s suddenly unsure ones. He blinked once more. Hands still holding his hyung’s face, and found his thumbs caressing the other's cheeks unconsciously. And suddenly that sense of pride and admiration he had felt so often lately, seemed to take a different form. He blinked once more, apparently helping to clear his mind.

‘You always know what I need even before I do.’ He blurted out loud, honest and pleasantly surprised. And Hoseok laughed, bubbly and shy.

Still surprised, he thought to himself he’d never felt more comfortable than in this moment, in this place they had naturally built against each other. There was nothing lacking when they were together, perfectly filling each other’s spaces.
