Work Text:
Dazai has always been in love with Oda, has always admired him, ever since they met each other all those years ago. Oda made sure to take care of him, especially when things got rough in the mafia. He can’t help but feel lucky whenever he sees Oda, as if wow, I get to be with the love of my life .
Oda proposed to him one day while they were at Lupin. It was casual, and Oda didn’t even have a ring on him, but Dazai didn’t think twice before saying yes. The two of them planned to get married once they found a way out of the mafia.
They kept their relationship a secret for what feels like forever. Mori wouldn’t have liked it if word got around that his executive was sleeping with someone , much less a man. Even so, Dazai still felt lucky and grateful that he got to be with Oda.
It wasn’t until Oda died that people found out about their relationship. Mori found out, and in turn, everyone else found out. He was almost executed after that, but luckily he wasn’t.
Ango helped him get out of there and transfer to the Armed Detective Agency.
At first, Dazai was upset with Ango, thinking that he caused Oda to die when he didn’t tell them that he was also working for the Special Abilities Department, but through the years he’s started to realize that that wasn’t the case. Through the years, they eventually patched up their friendship, and after a few drunk nights together and several emotional conversations, they realized that maybe it was more than that.
He’ll admit that he admires Ango for his hard work and how selfless he is; how Ango has helped him try to be a better person. He and Ango have grown together, he supposes.
They’re laying together in bed one morning. Neither of them wants to get up and make breakfast, it’s one of the rare days that they both have a day off.
“I love you,” Ango says. Dazai laughs softly as Ango tightens his grip around his waist. “I’m serious, I do love you a lot.”
“Yeah, yeah, Ango-san, I love you too,” Dazai says. He turns his head to kiss him slightly, and when they pull apart, Ango rests his chin into the crook of Dazai’s shoulder. Dazai wishes they could stay like that forever.
He’ll always admire Oda, but there’s room in his heart to admire someone else. His love with Ango is different, but still special nonetheless.
