In Your Eyes

Summary:

"Will you let me do your makeup?"

Work Text:

"Hey, you ever think about how Star Platinum and Love Deluxe are the only Stands with hair?"

Josuke snorted, eyes still fixed on his bedroom ceiling. "You don't know that. Maybe Crazy Diamond has hair under his helmet."

Okuyasu sat up from the carpet, turning to face his best friend. "Don't say that!"

"It's true! Maybe Heaven's Door is covered in a fine coat of white fur, or-"

"Ugh, stop! I hate that!" He said, both of them falling into juvenile laughter.

Josuke rolled on his bed, smile fading a little as he looked at Okuyasu's face. Okuyasu wilted under the other boy's gaze, face heating up against his will.

"Hey, I wanna do something," Josuke finally said as he sat up.

"Okay?"

"Will you let me do your makeup?"

Okuyasu instinctively barked out a laugh. "What?"

Josuke tucked a strand of wet hair behind his ear. "I mean, I don't guess I have to. I just thought it'd be kinda fun."

"If you want to, I guess I dont have a problem with it."

Josuke brightened immediately. "Really? Okay, awesome! Here, lemme get my stuff," He said, already making his way over to his vanity.

Okuyasu smiled, watching as Josuke collected a ridiculous number of bottles, pencils, palletes and glitters and set them in piles on his floor.

He'd initially fallen for Josuke because he was a hero, but it was the little things that kept him captivated. He loved how the hems of Josuke's lounge pants hit the carpet as he walked, how the ill-fitting cut somehow made him seem small despite his stature. He loved how Josuke's upper lip curled farther up than the average person's when his smile was genuine, showing his perfect teeth and even a little of his gums. He loved how when Josuke was dressing down for the evening, he always removed his earrings first, setting them aside one at a time.

Josuke sat cross legged in front of him, holding a bobby pin tightly between his lips.

"Okay, so," He said, taking the pin in his hands and leaning forward. "I'm just gonna get some of your fringe out of your face first."

Josuke was a pretty affectionate person, so Okuyasu should really be used to his touch, but the way his warm fingers grazed Okuyasu's forehead set his heart alight all the same.

Josuke bit his lip in thought as he studied Okuyasu's features. "Huh. You actually have a really nice complexion."

"You surprised? What were you expecting?"

Josuke laughed. "Don't even try bro, I know you. I don't think you've ever bought moisturizer!"

Okuyasu rolled his eyes as the other boy rummaged through his supplies.

"So, I got this new eyeshadow pallete the other day. It's got a lot of like, moody colors. I think it'd look good on you."

"Hey, whatever man. I don't know shit about this makeup stuff, so I trust you."

Josuke picked up a small tube and squirted a bead of weird looking gel onto the tip of his finger. He started to lean in, then froze.

He laughed nervously. "Um, I'm like, scared to touch your eyes. Isn't that weird?"

"Why?"

"I don't know, I just feel like I'm gonna hurt you or something."

"Well hey, if you poke my eye out, you can just fix it, right? So it's fine."

Josuke smiled, finally leaning in close. He spoke softly, as if he was worried he'd startle Okuyasu.

"Close your eyes, okay?"

Okuyasu found it difficult to tear his eyes away from his best friend's indigo stare, but he managed.

The primer was cool on his eyelids, Josuke's finger dabbing it in with feather-light pressure. He sighed to himself. It was late, way too late for them to still be up engaging in dumb sleepover hijinks, but he wouldn't dream of saying no to Josuke.

"Okay, you can open them for now."

Josuke held the pallete up to Okuyasu, pointing to the little pans of pigment with the pointed end of his brush. "I'm thinking about using this uh, matte midnight blue sorta color for the crease, and then this silvery shimmer one for the lid, and maybe this kinda cool pearl one for the inner corner."

As little as Okuyasu knew or cared about this, Josuke's interest was infectious as always. "Yeah, I like that blue! It's really, uh, dramatic?"

"Right? It's so mysterious. Okay, eyes closed."

The soft fibers of the brush tickled Okuyasu's skin, and he couldn't fight the urge to giggle as Josuke blended the colors in soft circles.

The room was silent aside from the music coming from Josuke's raido, playing at a low volume so as not to disturb Tomoko.

"Okay, I'm gonna do some eyeliner, so you need to be really still, okay?"

Okuyasu nodded.

"What did I just say?"

"O-oh, sorry!"

Josuke laughed, and his breath hit Okuyasu's cheek. "I'm just kidding. But for real, sit still."

He felt the wet tip of the eyeliner pen touch his eye, then immediately pull away.

"Fuck, my hands are all shaky. Here, let me-"

Okuyasu jumped when one of Josuke's hands cupped his jaw. He forced himself to relax, face warming at the contact. The eyeliner pen met his eyelids again, this time with a bit more certainty.

"It feels werid," He said, careful not to move his face too much.

"Yeah? I've never done makeup on another person before, so...okay, keep you eyes closed, cuz the eyeliner has to dry first or it'll get everywhere."

"Okay."

Okuyasu could hear a plastic pot's cap being screwed off. The anticipation of his face being touched sent an odd tingle along his scalp and he smiled to himself.

Josuke had gone quiet, perhaps too focused on his movements as a large fluffy brush danced along Okuyasu's cheeks and tickled the tip of his nose.

Okuyasu pulled away and laughed, scrunching his nose reflexively. "Are you actually putting anything on my nose or are you just fuckin' with me?"

"Both," Josuke said, although his voice sounded far away.

A different, narrower brush seemed to echo the movements of the first. "Okay, you're definitely fucking with me, didn't you just put stuff on my cheeks?"

Josuke laughed softly. "This is different stuff, I promise. This is going on your cupid's bow too."

"My what?"

"The little dip above your upper lip. You never heard it called that before? Right here."

The brush swept across the top of Okuyasu's lip, and the intimacy of the simple action had his heart fluttering.

"You can open your eyes, by the way."

"I kinda figured. I think I wanna keep 'em closed though, that okay?"

The clatter of plastic met his ear as Josuke set to searching again. "It's fine with me...Okay, for your lips I think I wanna use like, a dark burgundy? Like a purpley burgundy."

"Really going for subtlety here, eh?"

"Oh yeah, this is definitely like, a date night look. Okay, pucker your lips."

Okuyasu pursued his lips and heard Josuke laugh.

"No, not like that!" Josuke said. "Softer."

The lipstick dragged across his lips in a way that was slightly uncomfortable. He winced. "Its so dry."

"Oh, yeah. Sorry. This is like, an organic one with real beeswax and stuff. It's a good color but it's kinda sticky and it transfers like a bitch. It'll be over in just a sec, promise."

When Josuke finished, Okuyasu could hear him shifting. Probably sitting back to observe his work. Okuyasu let his eyes flutter open, squinting in the now unfamiliar light of Josuke's room.

Their eyes met and Josuke froze. "Wow," He breathed.

"What?" Okuyasu asked, nerves threatening to rise to a panic. "Did I mess it up?"

"N-no! You're fine, you look great! You...you look like a rock star."

Okuyasu rolled his eyes, humble in the face of Josuke's praise. "Whatever, dude."

"You do, really! Here-"

Josuke leaned forward and pulled the pin from Okuyasu's hair, ruffling his hand through it. His expression softened as he pulled away, cheeks adopting a rosy tint.

"Actually, do you think you could, um. C-close your eyes again? Just for a second?"

Okuyasu's voice came as a whisper, not wanting to disturb the strange calm between them. "Okay," He said, eyes slipping shut.

For a moment, the world seemed to freeze around him. The air stilled, he felt the need to hold his breath. And in this silence, a soft pair of lips met his own. Okuyasu tried to match Josuke's gentle pressure, however briefly, heart thrumming wildly in his chest all the while. It was over in a matter of moments, and with it the world started to turn again.

Josuke hadn't fully moved away, his whispering voice only had to travel a few centimeters to meet Okuyasu.

"Okay. Y-you can open your eyes now, if you want."

Josuke was blushing heavily, looking at Okuyasu with a hopeful expression.

Okuyasu snorted. "You weren't kidding about the transfer on that stuff, were ya?"

Josuke's eyes widened and he brought a hand to his own lips, now lightly tinted with a flattering burgundy. He smiled nervously, forcing a small laugh. "H-how do I look?"

"I mean, I'm no expert, but uh," Okuyasu tried to think of something smooth, but the reality of their kiss was finally hitting him, and he felt a little woozy.

"But I think you're perfect."
