Chapter 1: Accommodating

Chapter Text

When Rohan opened the door after finally noticing that someone was insistently ringing the bell, he was surprised. The older man hoped that it was Josuke who had returned from the police station at that moment, even though everything indicated that he had gone a little overtime and Kishibe was too absorbed in his work to worry that he was late. However, noticing the sodden mess his husband had become and the tiny hairball shrinking by the cold in his arms, he almost slammed the door back in his face.

But it didn't take long before he started to feel a slight empathy for the boy outside, who was ringing the door in hysterical screams for him to let him in because he was freezing in the yard. It was from there that Rohan understood all his delay, also looking at the various bags that Josuke accumulated on the way to the mansion. There were literally everything in those bags: cat food packages, accessories, cleaning and hygiene items for animals, collars, toys and even tidbit for cats.

Rohan was far from caring how much Higashikata's savings had fallen over the idea, but it was inevitable that he would explode a little when he realized that the other had practically adopted a cat without his permission and bring it to home as if the mangaka was automatically in agreement.

"Honey, he was lost there." That's what the young man said, trying to dry the blue-black strands of his wrecked pompadour. "I couldn't leave it in that state, it could be taken to a cattery soon and it felt right at the time to bring it home until we found someone else who wants to be responsible for it."

And wouldn't that have been better? It was a proper place to shelter these animals, obviously it would also receive good treatment there.

"Josuke, are you telling me that you spent your money on all these things thinking that the cat wouldn't be yours afterwards?"

He did not answer. Kishibe was heading towards the room to continue working on his manga as Josuke would surely be sleeping on the sofa at night, when he was caught off guard by the feline touch on his legs, paralyzing him.

"What is it?"

It walked between Rohan's feet, purring and rubbing itself there. Something about him was relieved that Jojo had dried it before and his Gucci pants hadn't been wet either, but at the same time it was disconcerting how he found the act strangely cute.

Higashikata laughed behind the counter, smiling mischievously at his lover. "It looks like it liked you."

For a second, Kishibe decided to kneel on the floor to get a better look at the cat's figure. It had completely white fur, with only a few brown spots that covered the belly part in an interesting contrast amid the yellow, matte eyes on his small head.

It was a male.

Rohan hadn't drawn so many animals before in his manga, so it was kind of a reflection in his stubborn mind while Josuke stared at him curiously somewhere in the kitchen. He sighed, balancing himself on the floor and reaching for the feline at some point in his thoughts, although he found it strange when his rough tongue ran through his fingers in an apparent expression of affection. "Perhaps it would be sweet if the protagonist had a faithful pet beside him in the new Pink Dark Boy arc."

Once that could benefit your work, it would be bearable. And well, Josuke looked happy.

He got up from the white porcelain tile, sneaking a glance at the automatic cat waterer that his husband had bought. “It can be a reference. The reality could make it flawless if I worked hard.” Rohan closed his eyes, massaging his temples when he thought he was really giving in to the other's new way of changing his more solid perspectives. “And make sure you buy anti-flea drugs. I myself will expel you from here if I find even one parasite, and I guarantee you will go along!”

And then, he was out of breath when Josuke's tight embrace pulled him and spun him through the air, spreading kisses all over his face in a way that Rohan couldn't help smiling at his excitement.

“Hey, you're still all wet in your dirty uniform! Don't be disgusting and take a shower.”

The boy pouted. "I'm not dirty."

They were silent while Rohan stood with his head resting on the policeman's chest, mentally gathering all the inspirations the animal brought to the atmosphere. Until Josuke slid his hands more firmly around his husband's waist, drawing his attention: “Hm, I wonder how well you would look in a cat costume. It looks hot!”

That day, Josuke actually slept on the couch.
