Flames of charcoal and ink leapt up at him, encircling a figure tied to a stake. They clutched at her bound limbs as she stared up at him, eyes full of tears. The flames swept on, writhing as they formed a face above the woman.
Alucard set down the stick of charcoal, “I didn't mean to wake you.”
Realization swept over Trevor as he stared at the woman engulfed in charcoal flames. “That's your mother?"
"Are you alright?” Trevor asked. Quick, impulsive. Concerned. He'd never … thought to ask. Never had he considered that under the snark and cool, aloof confidence that maybe Alucard was hurting. Grieving.

“You got lucky…” he heard his own voice speaking, recognizing the practiced calm tones he’d learned to use in his father’s infirmary. “That horseshoe broke most of the bullet’s force…if it wasn’t for that it might have done more than impact your skull.”“Yeah.” Johnny laughed, but it wasn’t pleasant. “Lucky.” The smaller man rolled to his side after a moment, slim face graver than usual as he looked up at his companion. “Gyro, I thought I was dead.”

Nai 'Knives' Saverem is a Hollywood star with two big problems -
1) He's being stalked and harassed by a fan.
2) He's gotta take his (unfortunately attractive) bodyguard to his brother's wedding as a fake date.
Debatable which is worse, really

Nai jumped as the novel was titled down in his hands.
“Ya enjoin’ it, Sporks?” The big guy's green eyes were sparkling with that wicked sort of grin. “Didn't know yer lil’ prissy ass were inta dirty, smutty, gay sex, sweet thin’.”
“Shut up!!” Knives shrieked, slapping the book closed and trying to smack the bigger man's face with it as his own blushed red, “I wasn't reading it!!”
“A'course not! Yer jus’ doin’ sum research fer yer next western.”
Knives glared at him, manifesting a horde of knives in his head and stabbing the bigger man with all of them.

"Hi." He demands, but the words kind of die in his throat as he has to tip his head way up, past the bulky pecs at eye level to the tanned face under the broad cowboy hat.
Oh good god. Someone from some pantheon up there has to be taunting Knives because this fucking cowboy is built like a brick wall and he's cute and a lil bit scruffy and he has a FUCKING EYE TATTOO.

Summary
Gyro and Johnny take a break from the SBR for a night and share their first heart to heart. Sort of.

Gyro cupped some water in the palm of his hand to pour over Johnny’s shoulders. “Hey, your shoulders are tight, aren’t they? Let me help.”
Johnny glanced back at him, still flushed, “How?”
Gyro shifted his hands up to Johnny’s small shoulders and pressed in, working at the knots he could feel. “My father is a surgeon.” He pulled Johnny a little closer as the smaller man started to relax into the massage. “I trained under him…to take his place… We had to study the human body, know the anatomy….it helps with our family technique too…”
“Mmm…” Johnny was listening, quiet for once as he sipped the wine.
Gyro took another sip of his glass before he moved his hands lower to Johnny’s back. “I used to give girls massages….They liked that.” It’s not so different on you, really.
