   Summary

   After Arthur and Charles are exiled from the gang, they journey toward Canada to find a new life for themselves. Along the way, Arthur must face a horrible truth about what really happened to them, and about what is real and what is imagined.

   Beneath the unyielding darkness of a hundred grasping limbs, aching for the touch of sunlight to tear away the haze of horror, Arthur grasped Charles' hand hard enough to hurt.
   "Charles," he murmured, his voice a rasp of terror. "Legs...a man's legs ain't supposed to bend that way." Charles' answer was soft, the quiet dread in his voice barely a tremble in his bass tone.
   "That isn't a man."
