Work Text:
Once upon a time, in the fairy kingdom, there was a huge celebration in honor of the prince fairy. He was turning 23, and people from all different kingdoms had been invited to join. Everyone was happy, enjoying the food, dancing to the music, when the prince excused himself for a moment, wanting to go out for a bit of fresh air. No one thought it was strange or dangerous, for the prince was so loved by everyone that no one could even fathom anyone hurting him, so he was let be. Ten, fifteen, half an hour. People started getting worried, especially the king and the queen, so they sent some of the knights to look for the prince. They didn’t find him in the garden, not in any of the surrounding areas. What they did find, though, was a small note on the ground. ‘If you want the prince to be alive, bring a thousand pieces of gold and all the royal jewels by the third night after tomorrow. Leave in front of the waterfall and then return to the castle. The prince will go back the following day.’ Of course, no one wanted to follow the kidnapper’s instructions, but no one wanted any harm to be done, so the queen of the dragon kingdom proposed something:
“If you allow me, I have a proposal for you, fairy king”
“And what should that be, dragon queen?”
“Allow my champion to find your son. He’s the best fighter there is, winning different competitions in different kingdoms. If there is someone who can find your son, it’s him.”
“And who is this man, whose abilities you speak so highly of?”
The queen dragon smiled. “My son, of course.”
And everyone knew of the queen dragon’s son, as he was an anomaly among his kind. He was a hybrid, son of a dragon and a spirit of nature. The thing is, even though hybrids weren’t rare, they usually were born with mostly or exclusively one of their parent’s characteristics. It was almost unheard of for a hybrid to be able to have both, those almost always being regarded as superior beings.
The king knew he was his best shot to finding the prince, so he immediately called upon the hybrid.
“Jungkook, son of the queen dragon, will you accept the task of looking for my son, Jimin, prince of the fairies?”
The half-dragon immediately kneeled, looking at the king with determination in his eyes.
“Of course, king dragon. I promise I will retrieve the fairy prince by the time the sun rises in three days.”
The king nodded, pleased.
“In that case, you may go.”
After he was dismissed, the half-dragon immediately went to prepare everything he would need for his adventure, and left the castle. As soon as he stepped out, big wings spread out of his back, as silver scales started growing out of his skin. The hybrid took off, the moon making his scales shine like they were made of jewelry, and started flying through the sky.
He reached the waterfall in no time, deciding it was the best place to start his search. He landed near the water, going back to his more human-like shape. He sat amongst the flowers, careful of not harming even one of them.
“Oh, flowers of this woods, could you please help me with my task? I need to find the fairy prince, for some evil people had kidnapped him. Will you guide me to him?”
Flowers started blooming around him, making way to a colorful road that seemed to be beyond the waterfall. Of course, Jungkook followed it, not before thanking nature for helping him. He walked and walked until he reached some kind of cave. Jungkook looked at the flowers.
“Is he there?”
The flowers immediately moved, before going back to their previous form. the dragon prince sighed, before walking into the cave.
Now, being half-dragon, he had an exceptional vision. His blue eyes allowed him to see even in the dark, so it was no problem for him to continue walking with normality. He even avoided all the traps that were there. Eventually, the dragon prince reached the end. There were stairs, which led to some upper room. the dragon prince immediately prepared himself for a fight, baring his teeth and extending his claws.
He did not get his fight.
Inside, there were four men, all laying on the floor, seemingly unconscious. Behind them, there was a small man, looking through the many bags and chests with precious metals. The dragon prince only needed to look wings in the back of the man to know who he was. It was the fairy prince. the dragon prince wanted to go to him, to ask him if he was ok, but he was too confused to actually make his presence obvious. Had someone arrived before him?
“Where is it… Where is it…” Mumble the fairy. He turned then, his eyes on the half-dragon for a second, before focusing on something behind him. “Aha!”
He ran past the half-dragon, immediately grabbing a crown placed on top of a pile of golden coins.
“I thought I had lost my crown forever. Good thing they were dumb enough to leave it on plain sight.” He looked at the half-dragon. “Oh, yeah. I know you. You’re the son of the dragon queen, right?”
“R-Right,” the half-dragon answered, stuttering. He had red cheeks, mostly due to the fairy’s soft voice and amazing beauty.
The fairy extended his hand towards him. “Well, young prince, I’m Jimin. Are you ready to go back?”
The half-dragon just nodded, taking the fairy’s hand. He smiled at him, before dragging him all the way out of the cave. The half-dragon was amazed at how easily the fairy seemed to avoid any of the traps there. It was almost like he was dancing in the air.
The half-dragon was a little bit in love with him already.
Outside, the morning sun received them. The half-dragon observed how the fairy’s skin seemed to glow outside, and couldn’t help but smile.
“I’m glad you’re safe, my prince,” the dragon prince said. The prince fairy turned to him, still smiling, still holding the dragon prince’s hand.
“Why, of course I am! Those criminals do not match my intelligence! They thought they would be fine just by tying me up! I just had to wait until they were distracted to change to my fairy form and I was free.”
the dragon prince chuckled. “Well, it seems that you needn’t me to rescue you.”
“I did not, but I always enjoy the company of pretty boys.” The fairy winked at him. “Do you mind if we walk? The morning is splendid today and I would like to enjoy it a bit.”
“Won’t the king and queen worry more the longer we take?”
“Maybe, but the day is precious and I want to enjoy it with you. Do you have any objection?”
The dragon prince shook his head. “It would be an honor.”
They continued walking, looking at every single animal and plant in their way. They talked all the way, finding millions of things in common. It was like they had found their other half, or that was the way the dragon prince saw it. At some point, he asked the land for its most beautiful flowers, fathering them all so he could make the fairy a small bouquet. The fairy, of course, had received the gift with a lot of happiness, taking one of the flowers and putting it on the half-dragon’s hair.
“You look prettier this way, my prince,” he had said, making the half-dragon blush yet again.
“You may call me Jungkook, my prince.”
The fairy winked. “Only if you call me Jimin, even though I would not mind ‘my love’ instead.”
The half-dragon choked on nothing. “T-That’s a bold suggestion, if I may say.”
“Perhaps.” There was something shining on the fairy’s eyes. “But it would be good for you to get used to such words.”
“M-My prince…”
“Jimin.”
The half-dragon cleared his throat. “It would be wise of us to continue walking.”
“Uh, but I do not wish to continue walking… Even though I want to see the rest of the woods.” The fairy looked at the half-dragon’s arms. “Do you think you could help me?”
“I-”
“I would really appreciate it if you helped me see all the flowers, my love.”
The half-dragon bit his lower lip. “If you want… I could carry you.”
Not even missing a beat, the fairy was quick to walk to the half-dragon’s behind and jump on his back, hugging him just like a koala, wrapping his arms and legs around the half-dragon’s body. The half-dragon wanted to ask why hadn’t the fairy just shrunken to his small size, since it would be easier to carry, but could not emit even a word as he felt the fairy’s respiration near his ear.
“Thank you, my love,” the fairy had whispered.
“Y-You’re welcome, my prince.”
The fairy hummed. “I have changed my mind. You shall continue calling me your prince. I do wish to continue calling you my love, though.”
The half-dragon hoped the fairy couldn’t hear his heartbeat. “That’s fine.”
True to his work, the half-dragon carried the fairy all the way to the castle. They did continue talking on their way, even though the half-dragon found himself speechless when the fairy decided to play with his hair or to give him ‘encouraging’ cheek-kisses. Of course, after it continued happening, the half-dragon started getting more used to such displays of affection, but it did not calm his beating heart, which sang the melody of the fairy’s love.
Once they reached the castle, the king was already waiting for them, hugging his son as soon as he had him within arms-length. The queen rapidly followed.
“I’m glad you’re back, son.” The king said, kissing the top of the fairy’s head.
“I’m glad as well, father. Thank you for sending Jungkookie to save me.”
The king looked at the half-dragon with a raised eyebrow upon hearing the nickname. The half-dragon blushed.
“I did not do anything, king dragon. The fairy prince had already dealt with his captors by the time I found him. I just escorted him back to the castle.”
“Still, a service was done to my kingdom, for which I now am in debt with you.” The king looked between the fairy prince and the half-dragon. “Is there something you wish as a reward?”
It was obvious for the half-dragon what the king was insinuating.
“Well,” the half-dragon felt his hands sweat, “may I receive your approval to court the fairy prince, sir?”
The fairy prince and queen snorted at the same time, while the fairy king looked at the servants around them. “You all are dismissed. I wish to talk with the dragon prince alone.”
The fairy queen seemed to be enjoying the situation a lot, for she was fighting a smile. “Sure thing, my dear. Come on, Jimin. Let’s go.”
The fairy prince winked a last time at the half-dragon, before walking out of the room, everyone not so far behind. Once they were alone, the fairy king put his hand on the half-dragon’s shoulder.
“I will be honest with you, Jungkook, now that we’re alone,” he said. “My son is perfectly capable of choosing who to be with, and he wouldn’t listen to me even if I did have the power to choose for him who can court him or not. Besides, he seems rather… infatuated with you, so of course you have my blessing.”
The half-dragon felt like a wave of relief. “Thank you, sir.”
The king smiled. “I have the feeling you will be family sooner than later, dragon prince, but I still wish you the best. My son does like to fluster people, though, so beware of that as you court him.”
The half-dragon smiled. “I have already noticed, sir.”
“Very well. You might go now.”
The half-dragon bowed to him, before walking out of the room and in search of the fairy prince. It didn’t take long, for the prince was just in the garden, playing with the water of a fountain. The half-dragon walked up to him. The fairy smiled at him.
“I’m guessing your talk with my father was rather successful.”
The half-dragon nodded. “It was.”
“So, are you going to start courting me, my love?”
“That is my plan, yes.”
Jimin hummed, slowly spreading his wings, and flying just over the half-dragon. “Now, how quick are you reflex, my love?”
The half-dragon gave him a confused look. “Well, I would like to say they’re pretty goo- JIMIN!”
Out of nowhere, the fairy had stopped moving his wings, gravity making him fall to the floor. The half-dragon was quick to catch him, though, the fairy ending up on the half-dragon’s arms. He immediately put his arms around the half-dragon’s neck, too.
“Oh, my hero!” He exclaimed, over-exaggerating his gratitude.
The half-prince breathed deeply. “I wish, my prince, for you not to do such a thing ever again. If not for yourself, at least for the sake of my heart.”
“Why not? You did catch me, my love.” He got closer to the half-dragon’s face. “You know, heroes do deserve a reward for saving the prince.”
The half-dragon gulped. “Y-Yes?”
“Of course! And I know which should be yours.” The fairy pulled closer, eyes fixed on the half-dragon’s lips, who just had the time to close his eyes before the fairy kiss—
“IUGH, DAD. STOP!”
Jungkook jumped on his spot, looking at his son with a raised eyebrow.
“What’s the problem?”
“I don’t want to hear how you and appa kiss on your story.”
Jungkook snorted, ruffling his son’s hair. “Honey, you asked for a story with fairies and dragons. I’m just doing what you asked.”
His son pouted. “But kisses are yucky!”
“You see your appa and I kiss all the time.”
“And it’s gross!”
Jimin opened the door, looking at both his son and his husband. “Kook, didn’t I tell you to put Jihoon to sleep?”
“And I was! But he asked for a story first!”
“Jungkook–”
“Dad was telling a story based on you and him, appa! And he made you two kiss!”
Jimin raised an eyebrow, looking at his husband with a smirk. “Did he, now?”
Jungkook raised both his hands, a playful smile on his face. “I’m guilty of those charges.”
“Huh, was something like this?” Jimin got closer to his husband, pecking his lips. Jungkook heard their son making gagging sounds.
“You two are so gross, appa.”
“And you should be sleeping, sweetheart.” Jimin kissed the top of his son’s head. “Now, get to bed. It’s too late and you have school tomorrow.”
“Yes, appa.”
“We love you, Jihoon,” said Jungkook, already walking out of the room. Jimin was behind them, turning off the light as their son replied with a me too, dad. He closed the door, putting his hands around Jungkook’s neck immediately. Jungkook smiled, putting his hands on Jimin’s waist.
“You’re such a good dad,” whispered Jimin, smiling. Jungkook giggled, putting his forehead against Jimin’s.
“My husband is way better, I must say.”
Jimin wiggled his eyebrows. “Oh? Do I know him?”
“You do. He’s the most beautiful person in the world.”
Jimin snorted, rolling his eyes. “What am I going to do with you, Kook?”
“Well,” Jungkook used one of his hands to caress Jimin’s face, “you could kiss me.”
Jimin hummed. “I like that idea.”
They looked at each other for a couple of seconds, happiness just radiating from both, before they closed their eyes and kissed. It was a sweet kiss, Jungkook’s favorite kind, the ones that they always had after a soft moment.
Before the kiss could become anything else, a loud knock made them both jump, immediately opening their eyes and looking at where the sound had come from.
Their son’s door.
“I know you two are right there! Be gross somewhere else!”
Jungkook couldn’t help but smile at their son’s antics. Jimin too. He had started laughing, putting all his weight on Jungkook’s chest.
Jungkook’s smile widened.
He might not be the protagonist of a story, but he did enjoy his happy ending.
