Fukukado Emi looked at the sky through the window in her room. She only did it because there was nothing else she could do in this hospital room, she didn’t even have her cellphone to play games.
Truthfully, Emi didn’t even know why she was still at the hospital. Sure, she had a broken leg and a few bruised ribs but she knew it was nothing compared to what some of the other heroes had. She was able to overhear some nurses talking and apparently the top 3 heroes were all in bad shape coming out of the raid on the League of Villains HQ and their secret hideouts.
An unexpected knock on her door brought her back to reality. “I am awake, you can come in.”
Though much more unexpected than the knock was her visitor. Instead of the nurses and doctors that came once in while to check on her, it was her old hero friend Aizawa Shouta, well known by his hero name “Eraser Head”.
“Eraser! This is a pleasant surprise! You see, even though I always dreamed of the day you’d propose to me, I never really expected it would be in a hospital room. I thought I’d be in a pretty dress, not bruised and and numb on a hospital gown”
“Hello, Joke. You must be feeling great if you can start with those fantasies so early in the morning.” Needless to say, Aizawa was not impressed at her humour.
“You know our marriage is just a matter of time...” Joke planned on keeping this going for a little longer but something caught her attention. Behind Aizawa’s legs she could see a small girl hiding, as if she was scared. “And who is this princess you brought with you? I did not hear about you becoming a pre-school teacher.”
“You know I could never deal with a class full of kids crying all the time… Anyway, this is Eri, I can’t get into the details but you could say I am taking care of her for now. Come on Eri, introduce yourself.”
The small girl seemed a little scared about the whole thing in meeting with an adult she never saw but, for some reason, this woman had such a nice big smile and gentle eyes that the words that usually get stuck in her mouth came out much easier than they usually do.
“N-Nice to meet you. M-My name is Eri.”
So, even thugh Eri managed to calm herself enough to come out and speak she almsot ran back to Aizawa’s legs when Ms.Joke screamed and started gushing about how cute and precious she was.
“Oh my God Eraser! How come you never introduced this cutie to me! You’re lucky I can’t really walk right now, otherwise I’d grab her and never let go!”
While Eri was shocked at the womans reaction, she could tell she only meant well. Though the part about being unable to walk grabbed her attention. Getting closer to the bed, Eri saw the cast on her leg. “Excuse me miss, does your leg hurt?”
“It’s ok dear, it hurt a little when it happened but I’m feeling good right now. Tell you what, I am feeling so great that I want to take you out to get some ice cream with me tomorrow. What do you think?”
Eri seemed to like the idea, but quickly turned back to look at Aizawa to see if he approved. The man sighed and scracthed his head before saying: “Seems like I have to choice in this, huh. Fine, I’ll be here tomorrow to grab you, Joke.”
“Now Eri, can you go sit down in that chair for a little bit? Me and Miss Joke need to talk a little between the adults. Why don’t you use that time to tell Mirio and Midoriya about your plans for tomorrow? I think they would be happy to hear about it.” Hearing this, Eri quickly searched for the phone Aizawa had given her in the small bag she carried around so she could call her heroes.
Getting closer to the bad Aizawa put on a more serious face and lowered his voice so Eri would not hear: “So, Yaoyorozu told me you got hurt protecting my students from that giant from the League of Villains?”
“Well, I was also surprised that big dude was immune to my quirk. It was a shame too, I used one of my best jokes to get him to laugh and he didn’t even seem to register I was standing in front of him.” Joke tried to lighten the mood with her usual playfullness but she quickly understood Aizawa was not in the mood.
“Listen Eraser, on top of being a hero, I am a teacher too. There will never be a time I will be able to stand still and watch while the promissing future of those kids is destroyed in front of me. I did what I had to do, and i know you you would have done the same. But I gotta admit, your kids are somethign else. Not only they were able to keep their cool in that mess, they were still able to formulate a plan to get me out of harms way and incapacitate that giant. They must have a brilliant strategist.”
“Yes, Yaoyorozu may have some confidence problems but I consider her to be one of the biggest gems UA has to offer to the future society of heroes.”
At this point, they had to stop with the harder talk because Eri was coming back. “Did you talk with Togata and Midoriya? Good, I guess we should let Joke rest for now and come back tomorrow.”
Eri nodded in approval and got close to the bed to say her goodbyes. “ See you tomorrow Miss.. “
“Emi. Fukukado Emi. But you can call me whataver you want, dear. Because I have the impression you will be calling me ‘mama” soon enough.” The last bit was said while Emi stared deep into Aizawa’s eyes. And she could barely contain herself whe he choked at those words. Eri did not undertsand the deeper meaning of the words but laughed too.
“I already deeply regret coming here…”
“See you tomorrow dear! You too Eri!” And just like that, Fukukado Emi did not feel bored anymore, instead, she felt like she could barely wait for tomorrow to come.
