Work Text:

To his credit, Izuku has always planned on marrying Shoto. Whenever he envisioned his future, Shoto was right there by his side. It was just, with starting his own agency, getting his first sidekick, and trying to climb the ranks. He had simply never had the time to think about it. Not saying he didn’t think about Shoto! Because he did. All the time. A lot of the time.

He thought about how Shoto had grown his hair out, and Shoto had developed the habit of running his hand through the long strands over and over. He thought about how Shoto had softened ever since high school. He scowled less, smiled more. An intern had done their paperwork incorrectly twice in a row, and Izuku watched as Shoto merely cringed at the errors, smiled, and then said thank you. He thought about how after a long day of conflict and fighting, Shoto would collapse on the bed next to him (or wait for him) and lay his head on Izuku’s thigh, wishing to be pet. Izuku adores everything about Shoto. Marriage had just never crossed his mind.

That was until Bakugo proposed to Kirishima after a huge villain showdown.

That was until Bakugo asked him to be his best man (much to Kaminari’s dismay).

That was until he had caught Kirishima’s bouquet, and a flustered Shoto had laughed and intertwined their hands, kissing Izuku’s knuckles.

Relationships had always been a strain for Shoto. But not his relationship with Izuku. Never with Izuku.

When they had initially started dating, Shoto was hesitant. Head over heels in love, definitely, but also hesitant. In the past, Shoto felt as though anything and everything he had ever worked for could be ripped out from him at any moment. Security wasn’t a luxury Shoto had for a large portion of his life. That’s why Shoto had walls. But Izuku barreled through all of them, sweeping Shoto off his feet. Literally and metaphorically. Izuku’s psychical strength is extremely attractive. Izuku is extremely attractive.

Izuku’s attraction aside. He is also charismatic. He’s passionate, and daring, and attentive, and this is all a big segue into saying Izuku had asked Shoto out. He had made the first move. Izuku was stronger than him, able to do what Shoto couldn’t.

Second year, and the boys had been sparring after school, tired and sweaty. Izuku had finally managed to pin Shoto, and they laid there breathless.

They stared and stared before finally, between frantic inhales Izuku managed to say. “Todoroki- I-“ A breath in, a breath out. “I think-“ Izuku had leaned in closer, their noses touching. “I think I’m in love with you.”

Dating came easy. And after graduation, the class stuck together and stayed close(relationship and location wise). It only made sense for the couple to move in together. Over the course of four years, Izuku and Shoto had been through about three apartments together. The first was cheap and reeked of piss from day one but they made do. Two years later they finally moved to a higher end, more expensive apartment. They had lived in that apartment for about eleven months before a villain tried to destroy the complex(not knowing hero Deku and Shoto lived there). The couples newest residence was fancy and spacious. And they had lived there now for about a year and a half.

Izuku wasn’t a morning person, but he always forced himself out of bed about thirty minutes before Shoto did. Shoto welcomed this happily, as his boyfriend made sure coffee was always ready when he rose.

One morning, Shoto noticed something.

“Are you not drinking coffee?” Shoto asked from his mug. Izuku looked groggy, and his hair was still a mess.

“Hm? Oh, no. I don’t like coffee all too much. ‘Prefer tea.” That struck Shoto as odd, because back in UA Izuku made and then drank coffee every morning with him. “Then why did you drink it back at school?” Izuku set his head down on the counter, closing his eyes as he spoke. “You don’t like tea, I only drank coffee so I had an excuse to make it for you. Cause you deserve a break sometimes.”

And that’s when Shoto knew. Izuku was the one. He purchased a ring later that week.
