Chapter Text
It was an oddly sunny day for a Tuesday, as it was in the middle of autumn and it was forecast that it would be cloudy or rainy for the next week or so. But Namjoon wasn’t complaining, not at all. He was more than happy for the warmer change as his plants can finally get some natural sunlight after it had been grey and cloudy the whole week.
The florist smiled as he entered the green house, relaxing in the warmth of the sunlight filling the building. He chuckled softly at the thought that he was doing the same thing his plants and flowers were doing at the moment. Even from here he could see that each of the potted plants were happy to bathe in the rays of the early morning.
Some of the leaves and flowers of different plants glowed as Namjoon passed them by or watered the tree or plant they were connected to. By the end of his routine walk around the greenhouse he was sure that all of the plants were satisfied of his service and company. But as he was about to leave a small voice coming from the far left part of the green house stopped him from his tracks.
“The Brighgents are complaining because you forgot to say hello to them again.”
Namjoon whipped around to look at the direction of where the voice came from with a smile on his face. He sighed as he scratched the back of his head as he approached the group of Panicle Hydrangea growing from their box, where a small, blue koala familiar with a purple nose yawned softly as it sat up on the densely packed flowers he was sleeping on.
“Sorry, you know I can’t see them when they try to play pranks on me all the time.” Namjoon said and leaned down to the semi-transparent plants potted next to the hydrangeas and slowly caressed his fingers through their silky, almost air-like flowers. “And I also can’t hear them complain. I don’t have ears like you do, Koya.” He continued, chuckling quietly when he heard the rustle of the flowers, indicating the familiar lied down again.
“It’s inconvenient to hear some of them talk all the time when I’m trying to sleep.” The koala said and yawned softly, making Namjoon coo at his cuteness. It had been years since he was granted his own familiar, but he will never get used to be affected by him as almost everything Koya did is just simply too cute for his heart to handle.
“It won’t matter when you’re always asleep, bud.” He replied and stood up, waving at the now satisfied Brighgents and leaned to Koya’s sleepy face. “Come on, we won’t be open today even though it is sunny. We still have to get that next batch of glittering roses and gem buttercups from Soojung hyung today too.” He ushered the koala to his palm and up to his shoulder, where Koya just sat down and leaned his head on the side of Namjoon’s face.
“Alright, let’s go. Don’t forget to get some cupcakes before we go back.”
“I know, I know. You can sleep in the car while we get them.”
And with that the two left the green house, the mystical plants and flowers cooing (or more like bristling their leaves) at how adorable their tender and his familiar were.
---------------------------------
Koya always wanted to see everything in a positive way, even though his extensive knowledge of how the world worked would always remind him that some things are just not that great wherever angle you look at it. He thought that the more you know the more you get solemn about all of the things you know. But now and then he would shut that seemingly negative but truthful part of his mind when he just wanted to have fun or relax with whatever was happening.
Like car rides. Koya always liked car rides. He always thought that the vibrations in Namjoon’s car would beat any massage chair out there.
He was resting next to the dashboard; his pillow nestled under him as he sleepily watched the scenery outside. With the sun out almost everyone was eager to go out and bask in the warmth so traffic was a bit heavier than the past few days. They left Magic Shop late this morning, so he wasn’t surprised that they would have to deal with the traffic. But it didn’t really bother him, since he liked to nap under the warmth of the sun anyway. That, with the small vibrations of the car and his human companion softly singing to the songs being played on the radio, had made his nap even better.
Koya loved to hear Namjoon sing, as his deep and silky voice was the greatest lullaby he could ever have. Sometimes he would even fall asleep as soon as Namjoon would greet a customer entering the flower shop, or if the human talked with someone over the phone. It sometimes bothered his human when Koya would suddenly plop down somewhere to sleep when he was around, but the familiar always comforted him with soft coos and sleepy whispers that he was alright, just sleepy as he always is.
Koya really loved his human.
When the traffic started to let up as they were driving much farther away from the city Koya yawned as he sat up and rubbed his eyes, smiling softly when he heard Namjoon chuckling softly at his cuteness.
“Nice nap, bud?”
“Yeah. It was warm.”
After he fastened the small seatbelt Namjoon installed where Koya just laid (Namjoon didn’t want to put him in a hazardous situation when Koya wanted to see the scenery properly, so he did it just to be sure) and they both fell into silence as they drove to the outskirts of the city, the amount of cars on the highway getting fewer and fewer as they started to pass rice fields and the river.
By the time they arrive at the village where their supplier Soojung lived Koya was sleeping on the pillow again, Namjoon snapping a quick photo of his familiar when he parked outside Soojung’s house to post it later on the MAGIC SHOP IN MOMENTS Instagram account.
It didn’t take long to get the flowers at the back of his car as Soojung was in a hurry himself as his wife and newborn son needed him in the hospital, and the pair happily congratulated him for the birth of his first child. The scent of glittering flowers and dandelions bundled up according to their colors and sizes soon filled the car, a smell both the human and familiar were familiar with. Koya specifically loved the glittering flowers as they were grown to have that mild sweet scent emanating from them, perfect for happy and important events such as weddings and grand coming-of-age parties. Meanwhile, Namjoon loved the gem buttercups because they looked fancy while also looking light and happy as the stamen of these flowers looked and felt like diamonds. It also loved that, despite looking expensive, they were fairly easy to grow and had many colors to choose from while still being affordable.
“The buttercups would be used to finish that bouquet order of the college student, right?” Koya asked as he typed notes on his small phone while Namjoon drove them back to the city. “And the glittering roses were for the wedding set next week?”
“Yeah, but some of the buttercups would be used to add more décor for the wedding bouquet of the bride to add some more glam and stuff. Not all of the roses would be used, though. We’ll just stock up some of the light colored roses because that’s quite popular to put in confession bouquets these days.”
“Aren’t we going to run out of the roses though?”
“The wedding would be small with just an event for the families only. The venue of the reception would be in the garden of the couple’s house, so it’s a bit small. With how many we got today we might even have some extra to make flower crowns for the women and some boutonnière for the guys.” Namjoon replied as he turned right from the fork of the village entrance to enter the highway back to the city. He smiled when he saw how focused the koala with typing on his phone, his eyebrows furrowed in concentration as to not be disturbed with the small vibrations of the car. “We have enough, Koya.”
“Okay. Noted.” The koala replied and typed in some more notes before he puffed a small sigh as he put his phone away. Namjoon immediately helped him get back to his pillow beside the dashboard and strapped him safely when they stopped at a red light.
As Koya was properly tucked in and was watching their journey back to the city he saw the dark clouds looming over the city, frowning a bit. “I thought it’ll be sunny all day…”
Namjoon sighed and softly patted his soft head. “I kinda expected this. The weather had been gloomy for weeks now… Atleast we got some sunlight today, huh?” The koala only nodded as it curled up against the pillow more, clearly a bit disappointed with the situation. Namjoon hummed in recognition before he kept on driving, the soft tunes of the instrumental of tokyo lulling them in a peaceful atmosphere just as the wind started to pick, the rain not far behind.
Of course, Namjoon didn’t fail to get his familiar’s cupcakes from the bakery that they always passed by when they go out of the city, getting another box of them just in case he himself would pig out on them later. He’s already disappointed with himself when he came back into the car with the two boxes in his hands, mentally crying at the amount of work out he would need to get all of those carbs out of him.
It started to rain when they were on the express way to the shopping district, where the Magic Shop was in. Their home made of flowers and plants and… well, everything he and Koya had worked and loved to do. He smiled at the thought of getting to arrange the flowers they got today with his familiar happily eating their cupcakes, sighing as he saw Koya snuggle more onto his pillow at the sound of the pouring rain outside.
He looked out of his window to see the looming palace in the middle of the city. It looked scary and creepy with such grey and rain in the background, but maybe it really has been a bit creepy to see. How much power exudes from the place, how tall and how it looks down on to the city… it really did baffle Namjoon’s mind. Not to mention how devastatingly handsome the princes were that would come to rule over their land one day.
The blush that swarmed over his face woke him up from his thoughts and he hastily drove on when the light turned green. There’s a reason why he doesn’t pay much attention to the castle and the royals anymore. He’ll end up distracted anyway.
But deep inside he did wish to see the six Princes in real life, the subjects of his dream man. But who was he to have the chance to see them? He was a nobody that loved plants and flowers and makes flower arrangements. He wasn’t important.
