Work Text:
It was already the second day since they arrived in the modern and he found it more interesting by the hour.
But the peak was when he stepped into the kitchen. His little mouse was there moving alongside some noise that was blasting across the room.
She didn't seem to hear him. She was lost in her little world, but it was different from those times she did it in his manor. She was completely at ease in the small and unprotected apartment.
Even her clothes were different. So much different that the kimonos and the yukata he was used to. But just as he watched her, her person started to make sense. Her odd hair color, the fluid movements, that looked like they were practiced over and over again.
And then he saw how she turned, and screamed as she pointed the wooden spoon towards him.
"God, you scared me! Stop doing this!” She was adorable. She pouted just as she crossed her arms. It was a shame that they were not on their best terms.
"What is this noise?”She let the spoon on the pot that she was using.
“Music. And Sasuke is out shopping, with Ieyashu. They should be back soon.” She shrugged, just as she turned from him. The bizarre metallic object that everyone seemed to carry around was by her side, and was the source of the so-called music.
“Turning your back to me? No longer afraid of me, little mouse?” He thought her better than to turn her back on her enemies, and the last time he checked he was her enemy.
“I don’t think that you are a threat to my life. There are quite a few reasons for that. Be kind and take the plates to the living room. The boys should be back in a few minutes and we can eat when they return.”
He didn’t move from his spot, eyeing the young woman that was ignoring him on purpose after ordering him around. She slept in his room, in his arms. She let him know the most important aspect of her life. And from the very next day, she stood as far as she could from him.
“I have a question.” she was again facing him, this time holding the pot by the handels with cloths. “Why did you look so miserable? You know, before I agreed to tell you the truth.” He could only draw in a sharp breath. He was at a loss of words.
“It was a shame that I had to do that to you, just because you were in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
“Right. You are such a bad liar. I would be more careful in your place. Now, please bring the plates.” From the plain little girl coming from a far away country, she turned to be a strong, independent woman wrapped in mystery.
But then again. They were no longer in his time, they were living in hers. And he didn’t know anything about her from this point of view.
“And how come that you know that I am lying?” A bold statement, with a simple answer.
“Your eyes. They change when you lie.” The pot was placed in the middle of the table, as the plates were put near.
Her eyes were fixing his form, as she tried to read something in him.
“We are back. For God’s sake, woman, go and dress properly.” The door opened and revealed Ieyasu and Sasuke.
“I am dressed properly for the 21st century. Get used to it.” She huffed as she looked at the pair. “Dinner is ready, by the way.”
He felt the teeth of jealousy sinking into him, with every laugh that escaped her lips, with every touch that was exchanged between her and the other. He wanted her, that was the truth that he refused to acknowledge. Because then she would turn in a weak spot.
And it was even more maddening, after the two men left for their apartment. Her behavior was contradictory
“Why are you sharing this place with me?”He had to know why. She didn’t trust him. She had a deal with him, that she could break any moment. He knew that Nobunaga was aware of her secret, so why play the game with him.
“Are you going to make me tea when we will return if I tell you the truth?” She let herself fall on the spot next to him on the couch, throwing her legs in his lap.
“This is what you want, little one?” Return with them. Why? “Then you shall have it.”
“Letting aside the very normal reasons. Like we couldn’t let you and Ieyasu share a room, since you don’t know how to operate things and since Sasuke can’t deal with both of you. I also wanted to make sure of what I actually feel for you.”
Her head was resting on the coach, her eyes were searching for him, like they did numerous times. Her body was relaxed against his, just like that night when she slept next to him. And at the end of the night, she saw right through him.
“You were mean and you not only thereten me, but you also implied that you are going to murder Hideyoshi. Besides, I overheard a conversation that would let some believe that you are a spy. “
“And you?” He wanted to know the version she created for herself about him.
“I am not someone. If this time can teach you something is that nothing is what it is and everything it is what it isn't. And I think that the rule applies to you too. The snake, the kitsune, is just a human, a human with too much loyalty. A man who put his heart in a box, only to let it out when a strange girl, with pink hair and odd knowledge appeared in your life.”
“You say that I have fallen in love with you.” His fingers brushed her ankles, right over the small tattoo that she had,a lavender flower. “And this is what you feel?”
“Yes and yes. And I hate you making me doubt myself.” He brushed her lips and for the first time, she closed her eyes. He expected that she would slap his hand, but she was melting in his touch.
“What do you doubt?” He wanted her. He wanted her to give herself to him.
“I have bad luck when it comes to romances. I am afraid of getting my heart broken.”She leaned more in his touch, her skin was burning him.
“If it was mine, I would do anything to protect it.” The truth. He would have died for her,he would have killed for her, he would betray for her. The irony, the one woman that would actually make his heart skip was from the future, a future he would not have seen.
“Then make it yours. The rumors exist there, but here no one will care.”
