Work Text:

Katsuki Bakugou and Prince Eijirou Kirishima were born only six months apart.

Their respective parents, Queen and King of Dragons, and Queen and King of Barbarians knew that they were destined to become friends.

It’s difficult to say when the respective kingdoms became allies and then even friends. Some say it’s from a war that broke out centuries ago, and the Dragon Kingdom came to aid the Barbarians of the great evil. The burning flames produced from the millions of dragons greatly increased the chances of the Barbarians winning against the great evil that tried to rule over the world.

The alliances continued into present time, with some rulers taking it a step further to become friends. At first, Queen Mitsuki Bakugou of the Barbarians was not fond of the idea, but with the aid of her husband, King Masaru Bakugou, they were able to make amends with the rulers of the Dragons.

Queen Aiko Kirishima and King Ryusei Kirishima, on the other hand, were greatly invested in becoming friends with the others. They were always open to expanding the alliance and were quite happy when Queen Mitsuki and King Masaru agreed.

When Queen Mitsuki discovered she was pregnant, she was delighted, hoping for a boy to be able to pass on the Barbarian legacy. She quickly wrote a letter to send off to Queen Aiko and awaited a response.

When a letter did manage to return months later, Queen Mitsuki was surprised to read that Queen Aiko herself got pregnant. She wrote that it would be wonderful if she were to have a girl, to be able to unite both kingdoms together. She ended up shrugging it off, knowing that it would be best to give birth to a boy anyways to be able to pass on the rulings.

Both Queens were very much happy when they gave birth to their sons, future King Katsuki Bakugou and future King Eijirou Kirishima.

It was now that the princes would finally be able to meet each other for the first time.

Queen Mitsuki and Aiko were able to exchange letters much faster, finally able to find a time when no one was busy to be able to introduce the two boys. They were only barely 3 years old when they first met at the castle of the Barbarians.

“Katsuki, honey, this is Eijirou.”

Katsuki stood behind his mother’s leg, peeking his head around to look at the boy with red hair across from him, who was doing the same thing with his mother. Mitsuki smiled before her eyes glided back over to Eijirou.

“You weren’t lying when you said his hair was as red as a rose.” She smirked. Eijirou shrunk closer from the attention on him. Growing nervous, his wings sprouted from his shoulder blades. Mitsuki and Masaru, who was behind her, widened their eyes simultaneously.

Ryusei chuckled from behind his wife. “Eijirou, we told you about keeping your wings away.” He leaned down to whisper to his son. Eijirou muttered a small apology to his dad before his wings shrunk back into his body. Aiko smiled before returning Mitsuki’s gaze.

“Yes, his hair is very red. It seems the Kirishima blood is finally done flowing through him. His hair was very black when he was first born!” She laughed loudly before stopping once she heard faint, small footsteps.

Katsuki stepped forward with stars in his eyes. He couldn’t take his eyes off of the small redhead still hiding behind his mom.

“Do the wing thing again. That was so cool.”

Eijirou’s eyes widened before looking up at his mom, asking for permission. Aiko grinned and nodded. Eijirou’s face broke out into a grin before stepping forward.

He closed his eyes and began concentrating, humming a bit before his wings emerged from behind him. Katsuki gasped and stepped forward, getting even closer. “That’s so cool!” Eijirou’s face flushed red from the compliment.

Both Katsuki and Eijirou’s eyes were shining before Katsuki blurted out, “I’m Katsuki Bakugou! Remember it!” Mitsuki’s eyes widened incredibly fast, prepared to intervene and force Katsuki to apologize before Eijirou responded with the same amount of force.

“I’m Eijirou Kirishima!” He yelled, crossing his arms. Katsuki’s eyes suddenly became mischievous. He grabbed Eijirou’s hand and began pulling him along.

“Come on, I can show you my awesome power in my room!”

Katsuki began to sprint away with a laughing Eijirou in his hand.

The four left behind sighed in unison. Aiko began laughing and bowed in apology. “Sorry, but at least we can tell they’ll be friends.”

Eijirou and Katsuki grew up with each other. Once they learned how to write, the letters never stopped. They confided in each other and learned many things about themselves along the way.

Once in a blue moon, the two families will get together. Whether it be to hang out or have a conference, Katsuki and Eijirou always snuck together away from their parents.

This time, though, the parents were glad they weren’t here.

At the time, Eijirou and Katsuki were both twelve years old. They were both finally learning how to hold a sword and attack with it. Katsuki wanted to show Eijirou what he learned so far, so they snuck away to the gardens, Masaru and Ryusei following to make sure no one gets hurt.

After the door closed, Mitsuki laid a couple of papers out on the table in front of them.

“I know it’s a bit early, but I just want to have a plan for when Katsuki needs to take over the kingdom. I think I may have found the girl he’ll marry once he’s of age. The family seems great, and she seems like a sweet girl.” Mitsuki pointed to a map to show Aiko where the kingdom was located, then pulled out a small folded up portrait painting that she received in the letter. “This is Princess Ochako Uraraka. I feel like she’d be a great suitor for Katsuki.”

The portrait of Ochako was carefully sketched and painted over. The artist wanted to get every detail of Ochako’s face just perfectly to send to Mitsuki.

Aiko hummed thoughtfully, pulling out her own letters and paintings. “I agree, she looks beautiful and is most likely even more gorgeous in person. I feel like she’s great for Katsuki.” Aiko leaned forward and set her stuff on the table. Mitsuki grinned and flashed a thumbs up.

“I knew you’d agree with me, Aiko! I’ll send a letter after you and Ryusei head back with Eijirou saying that we’d be delighted to have Katsuki marry Ochako in the future.” She quickly gathered up the letter and painting and set them off to the side, waiting for Aiko to start her own presentation.

“This young lady looks perfect for Eijirou. Not to mention, I’ve already met the rulers and both were marvelous people. She looks like the type of person Eijirou would get along with as well.” Aiko gently put down the painting of the girl. “This is Princess Mina Ashido. If I remember correctly, the letter stated their kingdom is around... here.” Aiko pointed up north to where she and Ryusei’s kingdom is. Mitsuki nodded in acknowledgment.

“She looks real pretty. She’ll be great for Eijirou. Now, I’m just wondering how Katsuki would handle the news that he’ll need to marry... You know how his temper has been lately.” Mitsuki groaned as she leaned back in his chair. Aiko giggled as she gathered back up all his papers.

“I would say the same. I’m going to have Ryusei break the news to Eijirou. Hopefully it won’t be as bad. I’m suspecting Katsuki to be worse than Eijirou, though.”

The two sat there laughing and changed the conversation before their husbands came back with their sons in tow. Katsuki was once again pulling Eijirou by the hand, leading them back to their parents.

When the news got broken to them about a year later after everything got confirmed, Katsuki wasn’t the only one pulling a fit. Eijirou was too, arguing with his parents for the first time ever in his life. His parents were shocked, and both sides said things they know they didn’t mean.

“Maybe if you never met Katsuki, your attitude would’ve never been like this!”

The aftermath of learning that both boys will have to marry two completely random girls in the future resulted in Katsuki and Eijirou writing the most they’ve ever done back and forth to each other.

They were both upset一 angry that they’re being forced to do this. However, at the time, neither boys knew the true rising roots of their anger. The fact that they have to marry when they’re already feeling a connection with someone else.

As the years go on, more and more letters are sent as the boys train and learn to become king.

At 15, Eijirou is able to fully transform into a dragon, and Katsuki is able to use his passed on explosive magic to the max.

At 16, they met Princess Mina and Ochako for the first time.

At 17, a ball is thrown in order to celebrate the upcoming marriages of Prince Eijirou Kirishima and Princess Mina Ashido, and as well as Prince Katsuki Bakugou and Princess Ochako Uraraka.

The ball took place at the Dragon Kirishima castle, as the rulers wanted to be prepared and strong in the case of an attacker. Eijirou didn’t mind, it meant he could escape to his room easier.

Mina clutched his arm as he pushed the door open to the ballroom to reveal many people clapping for him and Mina. Eijirou slapped on his prince face and smiled brightly, waving to everyone in front of him. Mina did the exact same.

Once they reached the center of the ballroom, the couple turned to face the door once again.

After a couple of seconds, Katsuki pushed the door open with one arm with Ochako clutching the other. Right away, Eijirou could tell how uncomfortable he was and tried to stifle a laugh. Mina shot him a weird look, so he cleared his throat and put back on his serious face.

Hearing the clapping, Katsuki slapped on his ‘nice, friendly loving’ prince face and began walking the same path Eijirou and Mina took.

Once arriving in front of Eijirou, he sent a real smirk in his direction before moving to stand beside him. Eijirou sent him a real smile before directing his attention to his mother in the front of the room.

The clapping and chatter silenced immediately upon her presence. She smiled around the room before her eyes laid on Eijirou and Katsuki.

“Thank you all for coming out here to celebrate my son, Eijirou, and Mitsuki’s son, Katsuki’s with their future wives, Mina and Ochako.” She paused to allow people to clap and sent a look to her son and Katsuki once she realized they weren’t clapping. Eijirou elbowed him in the side to get Katsuki to start clapping.

“Our sons here will be Kings of this land soon. Let us celebrate to that!” Aiko cheered, prompting everyone in the room to yell and cheer as loud as they can. People begin to mingle with each other to commence the celebration.

Instinctively, Eijirou and Katsuki turn to talk to each other before Mina and Ochako drag them away from each other. They both look annoyed at the circumstances but don’t fight it for now.

Ochako brings Katsuki around to her side of the family, introducing them eagerly. Katsuki reflexively throws on his prince attitude and greeted Ochako’s family with a smile. Luckily for him, they don’t know Katsuki’s real personality and didn’t question a single thing.

Eijirou, on the other hand, doesn’t need to put up much of a ‘prince face’ when being introduced to Mina’s family. It’s the constant yelling in his head, screaming this is all fake. Everybody in this room is pretending we love each other, while he smiled and shook others hands.

It’s when Eijirou is excusing himself to what seems like Mina’s billionth family member when Ochako and Katsuki stumble over. The two girls smiled and let their facades break for a second to squeal and hug. Eijirou breathed a sigh of relief as he pulled at the gold fabric tight around his neck, turning to face Katsuki. The blonde smirked and playfully held out his hand.

“Good evening, sir.” Katsuki mocked his prince voice. Eijirou tried to hold back his grin as he gripped Katsuki’s hand in a firm shake.

“Good evening to you, Prince Katsuki.” Eijirou praised, causing a vein to pop out of Katsuki’s forehead, as he hates being called a prince.

Katsuki yanked Eijirou forward quickly, leaning to whisper in his ear, “Let’s fucking ditch this and go to our spot in five.” He instantly pushed Eijirou away and let go of his hand. Katsuki dusted his hands off on his expensive medieval outfit, smirking before Ochako grabbed his arm and waved goodbye to them. Eijirou smiled at his back before Mina pulled on his arm.

“Let’s go dancing, Eijirou!” Mina broke out into a grin as she dragged him to the ballroom dance floor. Eijirou had no choice but to agree, taking her by the hand and waist like he was taught many years ago in this very room.

Other couples joined them dancing after seeing one of the main attractions on the floor. However, Eijirou kept his eye on the clock, and after it hit five minutes, he let go of Mina’s hand and put both on her waist.

“I must use the men’s room. Excuse me, I shall be back shortly.” Eijirou spoke to her gently as he slowly slid away from her. I’ve always hated this royalty talk. Mina, bless her soul, nodded her head in understanding as she left the ballroom floor and headed towards her family. Eijirou released a breath he didn’t realize he was holding when he left the ballroom room. He instantly headed in the direction of he and Katsuki’s spot.

Their spot wasn’t really that special or hidden. It was simply just an extended part of Eijirou’s balcony that was normally blocked off. In order to get to it, there’s a hidden sliding door in Eijirou’s room, or you can simply climb the vines scattered all over the castle walls. At this point, Eijirou and Katsuki have memorized where to set their feet when climbing the vine walls.

With the last push, Eijirou pushed himself over the balcony and was delighted to see that Katsuki was already there, the first layer of his outfit disregarded and on the floor. His head turned from the sudden noise then smirked upon realizing it’s Eijirou’s arrival. The redhead smiled and headed over to sit next to him on the railing.

“What’s up, dude?” Eijirou grunted as he sat down with a huff. He immediately began undoing the buttons on his first layer of clothing, then the second, leaving on the last layer, a white long sleeve button up. With only a small amount of focus, Eijirou blinked and sprouted his now humongous red wings from his shoulder blades, destroying the fabric of his shirt. Eijirou groaned as he stretched his arms out in front of him and cracked his head to the side. He shoved a hand through his hair. “Man, that feels way better.”

Katsuki lets out a small laugh, sighing afterward. “Fuck, you’re telling me.” He let a few small explosions emit from his palms, watching it in astonishment. “I fucking hate all this fake royalty talk, fake love, fake everything at these balls. People are just trying to shove sticks up my ass at this point.” Katsuki slouched forward, letting his elbow hit his thigh while his hand held up his face. “Don’t want to marry some bitch I barely know.”

Eijirou laughed loudly, pulling his hair back to get it out of his face. “Oi, the girls do seem nice, but I barely know Mina.” Eijirou sighed, scooting closer to Katsuki to lean his head on his shoulder. He wrapped one of his wings over the others shoulder.

Katsuki tensed but then immediately relaxed instantly. He let out a sigh before leaning closer to Eijirou, resting his head atop the redheads as they looked out at the night stars above them and the green garden below.

“Why don’t you want to pull through with the marriage?” Katsuki mumbled.

Eijirou felt the vibration of his speech on the top of his head. He hummed lowly, thinking his answer through.

“It’s like you said. It’s all fake. All of it. I don’t want to be fake my whole life. I know our parents were saying how they did the same thing and ended up actually falling in love, but I just... don’t trust it at all. It’s not... true love at all.”

Eijirou breathed his answer into Katsuki’s collarbone, the blonde man shivering from the cold touch. Katsuki tsked, prompting Eijirou to acknowledge that he was fully listening.

“True love?”

Katsuki whispered, his gaze pointing towards the garden to try and distract his rushing thoughts. Stop it. Stop it Katsuki. It’s not fucking you. He released a heavy breath and began picking at his fingernails. Eijirou noticed the nervous habit and began to pull tighter with his wing to push the two closer together. The redhead snuggled a bit more flush into Katsuki.

“Yeah.”

Eijirou gulped, not knowing if he was prepared to face his true feelings at all. He pulled one of his legs up on the railing to rest his hand there.

Silence took over, but it wasn’t uncomfortable, not in the slightest, it’s always comfortable in the air around Eijirou and Katsuki. Being friends for about 14 years of your life takes a toll, but not in a negative way. It uplifts you and brings you comfort, peace, and maybe even a sense of love.

Katsuki slowly brought a hand closer, inching it towards Eijirou’s thigh. The redhead eyes flickered down and watched it carefully, his eyes engraved to Katsuki’s hand. Katsuki stilled his hand, his tongue tight and hot around a question he wanted to spill. He was worried of a response, terrified it wouldn’t be what he wanted.

“Do you... have someone in mind?”

Katsuki whispered in the night sky, finally letting it slip from his lips and to finally just take a damn chance for once in his life. He clutched the hand at his lap and held his breath, waiting for Eijirou to say something.

It didn’t take long, but Katsuki could almost hear the smile coming from Eijirou as he slowly slipped his hand into Katsuki’s clutched one.

“I think so, yeah.”

Somehow, Eijirou was able to pull closer against Katsuki, making them flush as he used his wing to gently push Katsuki closer. He inhaled and exhaled against Katsuki’s neck, and smiled.

“I can feel you grinning, stop that.”

Eijirou broke out in laughter, leaning back to fully face Katsuki and take in his face. He blinked once, twice before seeing those crimson red eyes on him. Eijirou pulled on their conjoined hands and moved them towards his lips. He lightly kissed Katsuki’s knuckles, eyes softening as he spoke his true feelings into existence.

“But yeah, I think I do know true love.”

A confession. Katsuki felt his hand tighten out of reflex, but Eijirou’s feather kisses relaxed him instantaneously. Eijirou set both of their hands down into his own lap and draped his other hand on top of theirs. The warmth felt nice, especially with Eijirou’s wing still wrapped around him.

His wings, dragon.

Katsuki’s eyes snapped away from Eijirou’s face to stare at the sky, garden, and everything around them. An exit.

“Let’s escape this fucking hell.”

Eijirou’s head flew up at the sound of light, staring directly at Katsuki. The blonde was staring at the horizon, but then his eyes showed determination when they whipped back over to Eijirou.

“I’m happy my family decided to stay the night instead of fucking traveling back late. After the ball, I’ll meet you back in your room with a bag packed of whatever we need. You can pack yours too. Then, you’ll transform into a dragon, with me riding your back, and we’ll fucking escape this prison, and do whatever the hell we want out there.”

Katsuki came up with the plan on the spot, but was confident it would work. He’s seen how fast Eijirou can fly, and believes he is fast enough to escape if people get sent after them.

Eijirou’s eyes flickered with hesitation, anxiety, before quickly flashing with confidence and determination. A smirk fell upon Katsuki’s face when he saw Eijirou’s lips quirk up in his own smirk.

“Hell yeah, Katsuki.”

Eijirou gave Katsuki’s knuckles one last kiss, stop it Ei, affection is gross, before Eijirou pushed his wings back into his body. The duo threw back on both of their outfits and headed back to the ballroom.

Eijirou kept insisting that they hold hands, as it’s one of the last times they’ll be in his family’s castle, but Katsuki kept shoving him till they made it back to the ballroom.

Immediately, Mina and Ochako were back at their sides. The boys threw each other looks before they had to go their separate ways for now.

The ball continued for another couple hours, snacks being disrupted and feasted upon with dance breaks and toasts to boast about the marriages. Eijirou had to admit, he felt bad for Mina and Ochako, as it looks like they truly are desperately searching for love. However, Eijirou knows it’ll be better in the end.

Eijirou, Mina, his parents, and Mina’s parents bid farewell to their portion of the guests before making their way up to multiple guest rooms. Eijirou’s family shows Mina’s parents theirs, then Mina’s afterward.

“Goodnight, Mina. Sleep beautifully. Remember, tomorrow will be another day with a brand new story.”

Mina smiled brightly as she closed the door. Eijirou sigh, fully meaning every word spoken to her. He was about to head off to his room before noticing his parents stall off down the hall.

“Mother, father! Wait!” Eijirou ran down the hall before stopping abruptly in front of them. Aiko and Ryusei quickly turned around, waiting for their son. Eijirou took one last good look of their faces before breaking out into a big, genuine grin.

“I just want to say thank you for everything. I love you both dearly.”

Aiko and Ryusei smile. Aiko walks over to Eijirou and gives him a quick hug. “Of course. We love you Eijirou. Now, go get to rest.” She pulled a strand of hair out of Eijirou’s face and tucked it behind his ear. Aiko walked off with Ryusei and never looked back.

Eijirou released a breath he didn’t realize he began to hold earlier before slowly making his way to his room to pack his belongings.

Eijirou knew for a fact he would not be packing any of his fancy, prince clothing. It was mostly all old ‘adventure stuff’ that luckily still fit him. Vests, sweats, scarves, and more. He also packed some important family memoirs to remember his mother and father.

The redhead threw on a vest, leaving his chest open, baggy pants, some boots, scarf, belt, along with his bag, and gave one last look around his room. He exited his balcony to see Katsuki already sitting there in his own boots, baggy pants, and a big fluffy cloak. Katsuki as well was shirtless. Eijirou smirked.

“I think we were both just tired of all of these fancy little clothes we had to wear.” Eijirou let out a breathy laugh while Katsuki cracked a small smile. He took the bag from Eijirou and created a small explosion from one of his hands.

“Alright, let’s do this shit, Ei.”

Eijirou jumped onto the railing and gave a final look around the world he grew up in. He smiled to himself before turning his head to the side to meet Katsuki’s gaze, “Just jump right after I do. I’ll catch you no matter what. Oh yeah, one more thing, Katsu?”

Katsuki quirked an eyebrow up curiously before his chin was gently grabbed. Eijirou pulled him in for a small, quick peck on the lips. But god, that small kiss felt like an eternity for Eijirou. The feeling of Katsuki’s lips left him breathless, but definitely left Katsuki speechless.

Once he pulled back, Katsuki was sitting in shock. Eijirou laughed, shoving him once to knock out of it but continued to stand on the railing.

“Let’s do this shit together, Katsuki!”

Eijirou jumped from the balcony. Katsuki, who luckily snapped out of his daze quickly, followed Eijirou’s footsteps angrily and jumped.

Almost instantaneously, Eijirou’s whole body flashed white and a gigantic, red fiery dragon formed. The dragon let out a breath and began to slowly flap its wings.

Katsuki landed on the back of the dragon with a huff and began hitting the scales based at the neck. “You fucking idiot! You can’t kiss me like that in the middle of nowhere!”

If dragons could laugh, Eijirou would’ve done so now. He breathed out a very small amount of fire to get himself going, then began to flap his wings exponentially fast. The wind began to scream against their ears and Eijirou flew over the castle walls and away from the royalty life with Katsuki laughing maniacally on top of him.

When Queens Aiko and Mitsuki, and Kings Ryusei and Masaru woke up the next day, and neither of their sons were in their rooms, a search was sent out immediately, searching high and low to find the red and pale blonde-haired boys.

Eijirou and Katsuki were never found, content with living the rest of their lives together, creating their own adventures and stories to eventually share with the rest of the world.

The royalty life never quite suited them, anyways.
