Do Your Best!

Summary:

The Work Study has begun. Hitoshi works to reach his new goals while his parents just want to keep their Organization out of the shit storm in Hosu City. Will either get what they want?

Notes:

The chapters for this story will be a bit shorter but should come with a greater frequency. Thanks for understanding :)
Also, thanks to ScarletteFairy103 for providing a character that I'm going to weave in and out of this story.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter Text

“This is stupid.” Hitoshi says with a sigh as he leans back in his chair

“What?!” Izuku looks at him with bugged out eyes, “How could you even say that? At least you have offers.” he points to the small pile of papers on Hitoshi’s desk

“Too flashy, all of them.” Hitoshi feels his stomach swirl uncomfortably, “I’ve been thinking something more low key might be better.”

“Like an Underground Hero?” Izuku sounds fascinated

“Underground Hero?” Jiro asks from her spot on Hitoshi’s other side, “Like those guys who go undercover with the Police?”

“Oh, I saw a show about that once!” Ashido said excitedly as she turned in her chair behind Jiro, “Super hard core type stuff. Doing crime for the sake of good and things like that.”

“No.” Hitoshi puts a stop to that train of thought instantly, “I just...Underground would be better for what I want to do. If I become too famous they’ll only want me to do big things. I want to focus more on crime in low income areas.”

“Wow.” Ashido looks no less excited. Jiro looks oddly moved in a way that has Hitoshi’s stomach churning again, “That’s really awesome Aizawa.”

“Do you know where to start though?” asked Izuku

Hitoshi leaned back in his chair again and contemplated the ceiling, “I’ve been reaching out online, looking at some things. I think I might know who to contact to get my request heard by the right ears.”

“Still so mysterious.” Ashido made a show of hiding the bottom part of her face and wiggling her eyebrows

“Lay off.” Hitoshi snorted in mock irritation even as he smiled

“Excuse me?”

Jerald stopped and turned. He hadn't expected to find anyone on this roof. Most nights he passed through here he used it to get across a main highway because it was always deserted. Perhaps he wasn't as sharp as he used to be. Pushing that aside for the moment Jerald peered at the figure several yards away. She was small, almost child sized. Her red hair was tied into a tight ponytail that lightly fluttered in the wind. Something about her gaze had Jerald tensing. His Quirk, Springs Shoe, allowed him some quick maneuverability. If she tried anything he would be able to dodge her, “Who are you? What do you want?”

“Are you Slink?” was her only response. She looked so bored yet there was still that unnerving spark in her eye

Jerald felt like his springs were about to pop, he was so tight. Very few knew his Hero name, “I am.”

“Good.” she slowly reached into a flowing black coat and pulled out a stark white envelope, “I was tasked, through a third party, to deliver this to you.” she twisted the letter between her fingers so that a familiar blue logo could be seen on the front

“UA?” Jerald didn't relax, “What would they want with me? And why not contact me through the proper channels?”

“Private third party contract, that’s my part in all this.” the teen lowers the letter to the ground and gives a mock salute his way, “Job done. Have a nice night.” without another word the girl does a quick set of backward handstands and vanishes off the roof

Jerlad waits a full two minutes before he relaxes and approaches the letter. He can’t see any odd bulges in the envelope’s smooth surface. So he picks it up to shake it. No powders or other loose objects moving around inside. He takes the risk and opens it. Jerald is almost surprised to find a single piece of paper inside.

Dear Slink,

I know this isn't the way I should be getting in touch. But I also lack the knowledge of how to accomplish that so here we are. I hope the person I hired wasn't too shifty. You can never really tell online. Though again, not a lot of other options.

Getting to the point, I want you to let me do my Work Study with you. I know you don’t have an official agency. That’s one of the things I find appealing about you. And not just you, but the entire Underground Hero Community. I’ve recently learned that the spotlight isn't what I want. The list of reasons why is a bit long for a short letter so I’ll leave that out for now. Just know that I’m powerful, trained, and dedicated to helping those normally overlooked by the mainstream media. I hope finding a way to contact you will go toward proving how serious I am.

Respectfully yours,

Aizawa Hitoshi, Class 1-A, UA
