Loyal Knight

Summary:

MikaYuu Bingo Day 6: Royal AU

Or in which Mika is princess Shinoa's personal knight and Yuu competes to be Shinoa's second knight just to be with Mika.

Work Text:

When Yuu had signed to join the trials to decide who was going to have the honor of being Princess Shinoa’s next personal knight, Guren had puffed his chest in pride. And it was to be expected, as Guren was the Queen’s personal knight and Yuu was his protégé, so it was natural to think that Yuu was following his footsteps. Guren would be in especially high spirits, smirking and nudging Yuu to do his best and told him that, if he followed all his instructions, Yuu could get into the princess’ bed as soon as the following year.

It was no secret that Queen Mahiru was sleeping with Guren behind the King’s back, after all.

But Yuu had his eyes set in someone else: princess Shinoa’s personal knight, Mikaela Shindo.

It was Mika’s approving nods and smiles that encouraged Yuu through every trial. It was Mika’s presence in the training field that made Yuu do his best and overpower his rivals. It was Mika’s praises when they laid together at night that fuelled him to be the very best.

If he became Princess Shinoa’s personal knight, it would mean standing besides Mika, fighting back to back and trusting their whole lives to each other, in what was a promise stronger than marriage.

‘Together until death part us away,’ Mika had said once, after a night full of passion where promises of forever togethers had been exchanged and vows were made.

So when he was declared the winner of the competition, he kneeled down in front of the princess, noticing how proud Mika seemed and how his blue eyes sparkled with happiness. His eyes were set on Mika throughout the ceremony, and after his new cape was draped over his shoulders, he went to stand by Mika, tall and happy, remembering Mika’s words from the previous night.

‘I will be together with you from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part, according to God's holy ordinance; and thereto I pledge myself to you.’
