Work Text:
Kaito really had to marvel at how efficiently his and Aoko’s lives were being fucked over. Everyone thought he had intentionally shot Aoko, Aoko was being dragged into a forced marriage with that Gurikouji guy, he was pretty sure he was going to be expelled in the near future, if the administrators hadn’t already done that, and he had less than twenty four hours to try and fix everything.
But first, he had to bury his dove.
The dove, Shiro, lay on the ground near the hole Kaito was digging out in his yard as a makeshift grave. As the shovel bit into the dirt and slowly pulled out some of the December-frozen earth, he couldn’t help but fume over what had happened.
— His card gun firing off a real bullet and striking Aoko’s arm during the attempt to shoot the apple off her head, and his classmates all thinking that he did it on purpose —
— The principal calling him out over shooting Aoko and backing up Gurikouji’s father in allowing that blasted marriage to happen —
— Being forced to congratulate a teary eyed Aoko on her wedding and run, leaving her seemingly alone to deal with the problem —
— Gurkouji shooting his dove out of the air (and grazing Kaito’s arm while he was at it, the bastard) with his own gun and making it look like a trick —
Gritting his teeth, Kaito tossed the shovel aside and knelt to place Shiro into the just barely deep enough hole. At least Gurikouji had given tossed his dove’s body back after swapping her out for a live one, even if it had felt like rubbing salt in the wounds from having his reputation ripped apart at the time-
...Wait, what if Kaito could just swap the grooms? He did learn how to do disguise work in a fit of boredom and wanting another tool in his skillset, but it would require confronting Gurikouji to pull it off...
...Then again, Kaito could probably count on that ass to try and stop him from interfering, and he had been planning to stop by both the school and the church that night anyways, so hopefully he could slip in a quick switch around while he was at it.
Realizing his hands had stopped moving in his sudden burst of planning, Kaito quickly finished burying Shiro and turned to head back inside to sort out what his plan was.
There was no way he could let Aoko down now.
