Sometimes you don't need a potion to get the boy

Summary:

MikaYuu Bingo Day 11: Magic AU

In which Yuu tries to make a love potion for Mika's birthday but ends up messing it up.

Work Text:

Yuu didn’t know where he had messed up.

He had followed the instructions perfectly. He even made Kimizuki monitor him while he was brewing the potion to ensure that it was perfect! But even so, the love potion that was supposed to be pink and smelling of roses was now red and it smelled like… blood?

Kimizuki groaned and left the room muttering about having lost his precious time, leaving Yuu by himself with the potion. What was he supposed to do now? He only had one shot, since it took him longer than what he had expected to collect the ingredients and he had wanted to give the potion to Mika for his birthday, which was… today.

Yuu was so screwed.

He couldn’t believe his luck, he had tried so hard to make Mika fall in love with him for years and failed each and every time, so he had thought of this underhanded method a few months ago. Kimizuki had tried very hard to dissuade him from it and had managed to convince Yuu to give the potion to Mika because Mika deserves happiness, even if the love he looked for wasn’t Yuu’s. But this weird potion wasn’t even a love potion! And Yuu had bet so much on this potion that he had no other gift prepared for Mika, so what was he to do?

Yuu screamed in frustration and glared at the red concoction. Maybe if he casted an additional spell he could fix it? Or should he just discard everything and ask Mika if he could give him his present another day?

Wait, he could jinx the potion with one of his spells, bottle it up and give it to Mika to use as a good-luck talisman! He should only tell him to never drink it, and that way there wouldn’t be any accidents!

Yuu grinned at his idea, and quickly started working, already fantasizing about Mika’s angelical smile when he received his gift.

That smile that never failed to make Yuu’s heart race and the butterflies in his stomach appear, those blue eyes that warmed him up straight to the core and were now staring at him in confusion, that blond hair that—

Wait.

“Yuu-chan, what are you doing?” Mika tilted his head cutely, eyeing the potion with interest.

Oh no, Yuu hadn’t casted his spell yet and if Mika, being the genius he was, found out that he had been trying to make a love potion and failed miserably, Yuu knew that he was going to be teased for the rest of his life or, worse, Mika would get mad that Yuu failed at making him a present.

Yuu panicked and, without thinking, threw the contents of the cauldron over Mika and screamed, “PLEASE LOVE ME!”

Yuu realized his mistake a second too late and stared silently at Mika, who was now frowning and covered in his failed love potion, but not moving nor screaming at Yuu like Yuu thought he would do.

“Mika?” Yuu gulped, not knowing how he should ask for forgiveness for such an idiotic move. Should he throw himself to the floor? Should he beg? Should he be prepared to give up his desserts for a month?

“Yuu-chan,” Mika finally said. “What did you just say?”

“Uh… I’m so sorry?” Yuu tried. Was Mika angry? Sad? What could he do to make it better?

“No, what did you say when you threw this potion at me?” Mika raised his arms as if to demonstrate what was he talking about, showing his drenched robes.

“Uhh…”

Wait, what had he said? Yuu honestly didn’t remember.

Mika sighed and went around the table so he could be face to face with Yuu.

“Did you say ‘please love me’, Yuu-chan?”

Had he? Yuu really had no idea.

Mika must have seen the confusion and shock in Yuu’s face, because he stepped even closer and grabbed Yuu’s face in his hands, kissing him.

Wait, what?

“Silly Yuu-chan,” Mika giggled when they parted ways. “You didn’t need to ask for my heart, it has been yours for a long time now.”

Yuu blinked once, twice, before he understood what was going on.

“Wait, so that means…?”

“Yuu-chan, I love you,” Mika said with such a radiant smile that Yuu couldn’t help but smile as well.

“I love you too, Mika. Happy birthday. And sorry for throwing a failed potion on you.”
