Bakugo stepped into pure chaos that was the current UA dorms. His eyebrow twitched in annoyance, hands shoved deep into the pockets of his sweats.
Seemed like it was revolving around Deku, no surprise there, but was lacking the actual subject at hand. there was a lot of yelling, between apologies, crying and berations, it sounded like one of the idiot crew said something to do with Midoriya's stagnant training.
He had noticed the frustration the greenette had been experiencing and could only imagine the failure he must be feeling. Having that slapped in your face by another student must have hurt.
He sighed, another group began to search for the boy, spreading out shouting which areas they would check before the room was empty.
He knew where he was and not one of the many consecutive shouts had hit the mark because it was a clear violation of the rules. He turned on his heel and returned to the elevator smacking the top floor's glowing number. a few minutes of silence later and the metal doors opened into a mostly empty hall save for old decorations and a line of windows. The very end of them being open and leading to the roof. He wandered over and sure enough, there was his nerd, staring up at the starry sky with red swollen eyes and a distant emptiness he always had from a good cry session.
Bakugo hopped out and onto the roof, drawing his attention.
"Kacchan." Deku whispered, his voice gravely and strained from the sobbing no doubt he was doing.
"Hey, love." He whispered back. Early into the relationship they found he was quite caring. Showering him with affection and cuddles when they were alone and remaining prickly in the presence of others despising almost all forms of PDA. Midoriya didn't mind. It made his softness in private feel more special.
Bakugo came to a stop in front of him and sat resting his back against the bare legs held tight to his boyfriend's chest. A physical contact to reassure him he wasn't alone and a reminder he would always support him. Midoriya visibly relaxed and they sat in companionable silence watching the stars.
Eventually the chill of the fall night caught up to them and they retreated back into the warmth of the building. Bakugo didn't say anything as his large hand enclosed around his partner's slightly smaller palm, entertaining their fingers and gently pulling him back into the elevator. They went down to the fourth floor and wordlessly entered the blonde's dorm.
"Sleep." He tucked a strand of green locks behind red ears and cupped his cheek lovingly. His face creased with slight worry and Midoriya smiled a little, leaning to kiss him softly before they climbed into bed. the taller pulling him into his chest to cradle him close and warm him with his naturally warmer body. It was times like this he was glad his quirk was a heat type. He could offer him comfort in a simple manner.
Years ago, he would have mocked the greenette for tears he saw as weakness, but now only worry and sadness came to see him so vulnerable. His past hatred over the misunderstanding was replaced by a deep impenetrable love he longed to prove to him. His love, his rival, his whole world, wrapped up in scars and rough skin from years of training. Years of growth as he watched his journey. Watched him break himself through trial and error to master a quirk he missed years of having.
So far behind everyone who had theirs since early childhood, he was forced to push harder than anyone else and Bakugo was so proud of him. Midoriya only saw how it was drawing closer to graduation and he still didn't have full control. He didn't see his accomplishments. His rise in rank as one of the big three or how he dominated in the last sports festival or the pride the former number one hero looked at him with.
He wished he could take away all the self doubt contained in his body. Wished he could replace it with every positive emotion he could give him. Unfortunately it didn't work like that. Instead he whispered soft praises and held him tight. Running his hands gently through his hair to lull him to sleep. Even when his breath evened out and his body finally relaxed, he continued. Pushed passed his own fatigue to give him more praise hoping his words would burn into his subconscious.
He buried his face into unruly curls and let himself drift off for the night. Promising to bask him in attention the following day, even in front of their peers. He could sacrifice his comfort if it meant his nerd felt better.
He loved him more than anything in this world and the velvet box hidden in the back of his dresser would hopefully drive his intentions home. He need only wait until graduation.
