“Tomioka, you done?!” Sanemi yells as he prepares two bento boxes in the kitchen, but no one answered.
Sanemi can feel a vein popped in his head as he hears nothing but silence. He quickly finished preparing and rushes to their room. “What’s taking you so damn long?!” He yelled as slides the door open, only to find Giyuu sitting on the futon trying to get his hair tied into his usual hairstyle. He turns his head towards Sanemi, his expression blank as usual.
“Sorry…” Giyuu mumbled while lowering his head. His hair was not cooperating with him today, and Sanemi can tell by the amount of hair that was on the hairbrush. Giyuu doesn’t usually spend this much time on his hair, but today is a special occasion.
Sanemi walks towards Giyuu and took the hairbrush and hair tie from his hands. He swiftly combed Giyuu’s hair and ties it into his usual ponytail. Giyuu looks into the mirror he had placed aside, though his face still expressionless, Sanemi can tell he was satisfied.
After all, they have been living together for quite some time now.
“C’mon, we still need to pick up the flowers from Kamado’s, ” Sanemi said after he gets up. He then went out of the room. Giyuu got up as well and went to the garden to get a pail and ladle while Sanemi headed back to the kitchen. He took out the watermelon he bought a few days ago and cut it into evenly shaped triangles. He puts them in another bento box, filled with other fruits such as apples and grapes. He puts the bento box on top of a purple cloth, wrapping it neatly. He does the same to the other two bento boxes that he had prepared earlier, one in a green cloth and one in a blue cloth.
“Got everything? ”Giyuu came in the kitchen asking Sanemi, to which the other nodded. Giyuu helped carrying one of the bento boxes along with the pail, while Sanemi carried the other two. They then headed out to Tanjirou’s place to get the flowers.
After the victory against Muzan, everyone lived their separate lives as the Demon Slayer Corps is disbanded. Tanjirou and Nezuko opened up a flower shop. Kanao, Zenitsu and Inosuke would go help them out. Giyuu would occasionally stop by to visit as well since their shop was close to the Wind Estate. He had moved to the Wind Estate few months after the corps disbanded.
Tanjirou and Kanao were in the shop at the time, they were happy to see the couple. Tanjirou told Kanao about their order and she rushed to the back to gather the flowers. Tanjirou then strike up a conversation with Sanemi, they are on better terms now after Nezuko turned back into a human. Giyuu took the flowers given by Kanao and put them into the pail he brought, it was sunflowers and white chrysanthemums.
After they said their goodbyes, Sanemi and Giyuu went on their way. They didn’t say anything to each other on their trip until they got to their destination. Rows and rows of graves were seen, this was the burial site for former demon slayers, specifically the ones who died during the battle with Muzan.
“Do you remember which one is it?” Giyuu asked Sanemi, to which Sanemi nodded. He leaded Giyuu to the grave that they came for. On the grey granite stone engraved the name “Shinazugawa Genya”.
They put down the stuff they brought, three bento boxes, a pail and ladle, a plate, flowers and incense sticks. Sanemi grabbed the pail to the nearest well and filled it up with water. They used some of the water to wash their hands. Both of them then joined hands in prayer.
After the prayer was over, Giyuu used the ladle to pour water onto the grave, carefully as to not spill it everywhere. Sanemi stared at the gravestone, knowing only Genya’s clothes were buried underneath.
Giyuu finished cleaning the gravestone and Sanemi started unpacking the bento box that was wrapped in the purple cloth. He put the fruits on the plate he had prepared earlier and placed them in front of Genya’s grave. Giyuu unwraps the flowers and placed them into the special stands that was on each side of the gravestone. Both of them lighted the incense sticks and placed them in the incense holder. They quietly joined their hands for another prayer.
After they finished the second prayer, Giyuu went to the restroom. Sanemi kneeled down in front of Genya’s grave.
“Hey lil’ bro, it’s been a while. How are you doing? How are the rest of our siblings doing? I’m doing fine, Tomioka and I opened up a tea shop together. A lot of old comrades love to stop by and have some tea so business is quite okay. We’re also living together, after you’ve gone, he’s pretty much the only one I have left. Also, I confessed first, are you proud of me for that?” He then chuckled a little before Giyuu came back. He stood up and held Giyuu’s hand.
“Anyway, we’re also here to tell you that we’re getting married next month,” He held Giyuu’s hand tighter, “and we’re here to ask for your blessing.”
“Shinazugawa has shown me affection these past few months, ” Giyuu said before he kneeled down, “he has made me happy and I want to express my gratitude, so please,” He bent his back until his head reached the ground,
“I hope that you can accept me.”
A gust of wind blew by, it went past both of their hair. Giyuu got up and felt the wind caressing his cheeks, it was gentle and warm, pleasant to the touch. Sanemi’s lips curled into a smile. Giyuu looked at Sanemi, confused as to why he is smiling, but seeing his fiancée looking so happy his heart felt joy as well.
They then grabbed the remaining stuff they brought and said their goodbyes to the tombstone. They found a bench under a tree so they decided to sit down to have lunch.
“You pulled it off quite well,” Sanemi said, “I’m surprised.”
“I wrote down what I wanted to say last night,” Giyuu said while biting on a salmon, “I rehearsed it too.”
“Is that why you took so long to get ready? And the toilet break?” Sanemi asked while taking a bite on an ohagi.
Giyuu nodded, “I don’t want to disappoint him.”
“Genya would’ve accepted you either way, he’s too nice,” Sanemi rolled his arm around Giyuu’s shoulder, “even if he doesn’t accept it, I’m still gonna marry you.”
Giyuu’s lips only curved slightly, barely noticeable, but just enough to tell Sanemi that he’s happy, even more than usual. He responded by giving Giyuu a kiss on the cheek. Giyuu’s face instantly went red and he turned his head away to try to hide his embarrassment while Sanemi laughed.
Both of them finished their bento and went back home, hand in hand
